Detailed Reviews
I've been staying at the Saint georges hotel for a week during March 2014. I've booked my room through on line call and at arrival I've been automatically assigned a single room (Number 202) which is really under that category of hotel standards. Clean room but all apparatus (from conditioned air air to bathroom ventilo) are noisy.
That's said, all apparatus are good working but dramatically noisy. You can't switch on the air conditioner without yet shutting it, unbearable noise.
The restaurant is clean and meal's good instead of the very shortened menu card. But well maintained.
Alas! What i got during my staying at that hotel was under my expectation and amazingly under the Hotel possibilities and that's been confirmed shortly before my leaving by the hotel manager. Answering to my questions he shows me very large, nice , clean and well equiped rooms at many floors of the hotel.
Why, then, they hosted me in that little and bad equiped room?
" you've the right to ask for another better room ".The manager said. Too late, I was on leaving.
Probably in my mind getting the worst room in an hotel could be a good experience, when commenting it for potential visitor and avoiding getting it when they choose that hotel (that's at least a satisfaction ;-)
Anyway, a good will has been expressed by the manager and his staff to change things for better. I believe them, and i'll be back.
In fine, Good hotel but temporary somme service lack which be certainely filled because of the good understanding of the management staff.

Hotel and rooms are not up to mark. It was my first time to Port Louis, Mauritius and on business trip to meet a client there, a friend of mine had book this hotel for me saying that it is business hotel, with good clean and nice room, including BF andf near to waterfront. The hotel lobby is very small, lift is only one and small and the rooms are small, not good and comfortable, small TV set, very poorly lighted and for WI-Fi, you had stand near your room door to get free WI-Fi connection as the router is hanged outside in the passage way. The room rate was also not that good. I will not recommend this hotel to any one.

Wonderfully situated hotel with potential for so much more.
Rooms have those old historical carpets with the accompanying historical smells.
The staff are friendly, professional and helpful.
With not much investment it could be an alternative to the abundant tourist rip-offs the island is renowned for.

we stayed a night there before catching a flight back. the first room they gave us the air conditioner didnt work. the second room we shifted to, the AC didnt work. and by the third room we were so tired that we just took it, even though the AC was more like a fan.
the buffet breakfast was lousy, the staff took ages to do anything. there is no food available in the hotel after 10pm, so forget room service. its in a very quiet part of town so after sunset everything seems dead.

Dear travelers ;
Few point to take note if you are going to stay at the Saint George hotel ; adventure at your risk!!!
Positive ; value for money rooms , well located, morning reception staff better than the evening staff, housekeeping staff very helpful.
Negative; restaurant staff using slang languages in front on guest (guest presence not respected at all), the worst thing that can happen to you for breakfast is when you walked in the restaurant and nobody even welcomes you or don't even bother to offer service as they are quite busy on mobile phone, when they are ready they will then ask you; (MY Friend!!! will you take omelette).
On top of it other guest Is being taken good care having breakfast till expresso being served onto the Table, for others they will not even bother to ask even if it's a paying service.
Buffet poor quality- other same category hotel offer better than that- only few item would have change the whole buffet doesn't mean it should be an extraordinary buffet which will be too exaggerating for the money you are paying... Honestly I think the management should review the buffet taking the cost into consideration.
Pool not well maintained as it seemed it has not even been cleaned for at least 2 or 3 weeks or may be a month...
Overall ; Very nice place to be, but obviously it can be seen that it need some more discipline and staff needs lots of training specially on guest service and culture diversity.

Wonderful little establishment and good for those on a simple budget. Do note though that room safe is a bit smaller than the typical ones i have been accustomed to in hotels but I would not hold that against this hotel. Room I was in on the third floor ( first floor seems to be a conference area) was a good size and I would even add quite large. The room decor is also quite nice and I will upload some pictures too to illustrate. It has a good sized bathroom with shower (no bath).
Complementary breakfast was provided as well as wifi available in every area of the hotel I tried. In any case, Emtel sims have good internet access and cheap so ok to bridge the gap at times.
Back to the breakfast, it was fairly simple but excellent French baguettes for breakfast. The staff are all really friendly and willing to give advice. The weather was bad most of the time I was there and the staff always made sure to warn you before setting off in the morning.
The Manager too, Mr Sanjeev was also most helpful.
I did find however notice that the hotel's exchange rate offering was not quite as good as you could get at a bank nearby. I would not however complain about this much, but it could be a point for the hotel to consider potentially improving upon, if possible.
In summary, I would Deffo recommend to a friend to stay there and enjoy the pleasant experience which it offers.

The St. George is ideally located for those wanting to walk to many of the major downtown buildings. My meetings took me to the Ministry of Tourism [Victoria House] and the Air Mauritius Center for several other meetings. The location was ideal. But it is not as it suggests a three-star but a modest two star..... But that is reflected in the price which is very reasonable for downtown Port Louis. Take the time to walk around the neighborhood. There are plenty of examples of the older colonial architecture. As well the garrison and remaining Stone walls provide a distinct heritage character to the downtown.
Good room for working with ample desk space.

I moved three times in the first half hour there. Room 1 : broken light, tv did not work, safe inoperative. Room 2: tv worked more or less, safe inoperative but lights only stayed on for 20 seconds. Room 3, less dingy than others and clean, safe inoperative, primitive a/c noisy, shower curtain too short so water from partly blocked shower head went everywhere. many items on restaurant menu unavailable. A disaster.

I read the experience of the Traveler who had to switch rooms 3x in amazement. My experience at the St. Georges was exactly the same. The AirCon didn't work in any of the rooms and the temperature was 85 degrees in the room at midnight. After the third change and cleaning the filthy AC filters we gave up in frustration.
We had just finished a taking a cruise and had high hopes for the hotel. It seemed to be in a central location and the staff was friendly when we dropped off our bags. When we returned in the evening we found the area to be very desolate. As we entered our first room and for that matter the 2 others we found the rooms to be very dated, carpets worn, and bedding not appealing. The noise from the hall was very noticable in all the rooms.
There are two sides of the building, one has split aircon while the other side has window units. I can only assume the other side slept that night because we didn't.
The staff was friendly and the breakfast (yes with the ants) setting was relaxing. We did have dinner which was very good as well. There were several locals having dinner so how could you go wrong.
Would I stay at the hotel again? Probably not, I'd spend the extra money and stay at the LeSuffern or the other hotel down near the port.

Le Saint Georges is a high rise hotel (not a B&B). It has restaurant, bar, swimming pool, business centre, conference facilities, etc.
The rooms are a decent size and clean and comfortable. The restaurant has good food and reasonable prices. It is by the pleasant swimming pool and you can eat inside or outside. Service in the restaurant was a little slow, but otherwise very good.
I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. They gave a warm welcome and were happy to help with any other arrangements. The location is excellent. It is close to the centre of the city and a short walk from the waterfront. I paid ~USD$65, including breakfast.
