Excellent Hotel in a mountain. This hotel offers great views of Maseru Cbd. They have a big pool, spa, gym which is free of you are a hotel guest. Free wifi which was offered to us while we were waiting on the queue just to show how staff understand that we want to inform our loved ones that we arrived. I did not visit the casino. Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch all nice with English menu and variety to choose from. My favorite is fruits and water mixed with mint and lemon.

The Hotel was very accommodating with regards to security for our pits and bikes, made space available in the secure parking area. The staff assisted with unpacking and packing.
Overall the rooms were clean and adequate. The food was reasonable, a bit overpriced for what you get.
Had a great stay!

On the plus side, the rooms are spacious and clean, the position is convenient, the view is nice, and some of the staff were friendly and professional.

On the negative side, there are quite a few basics missing which one would not expect for the fact that its an international hotel chain, and the price. There is no fridge in the room, so the bottle water is tepid. There is no information or directory in the rooms. So I had to go down to reception to ask for the reception extension (!), and the room service extension. There is no room service menu, they just kind of tell you what they have available. I ordered the hake with lemon butter, because I had tried it at the other Avani in Maseru (Avani Lesotho). It wasnt bad, but the lemon butter was lemon margerine - yuk!

Also had to queue 25 minutes at the check in desk which is too long in my opinion with just one staff member on duty.

Dear MariaS10689, Thank you for taking time to reflect on our service. We value your feedback and endeavor to correct the issues you concisely described on your feedback. Just on some of them, we have implemented a phased Capex program to install Bar fridges in all our rooms and this is now at an advanced stage. Secondly, this hotel does not offer room service, but an arrangement is always made by our F&B for guests if notified ahead of time. Moreover, our directory is on Channel 1 on the TV available in all our rooms. Apart from that, I have already redirected the issue of one receptionist to our FO manager to ensure it does not recur and to our Executive Chef, the issue relating to inconsistency on your food order. We are looking forward to welcoming back in the near future. Kind Regards Letsoso Mohasoa General Manager

I stayed at Avani Maseru with my husband and 5 year old daughter for 2 weeks over Christmas, and we were beyond impressed. Each staff member we encountered from security to housekeeping was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is immense and delicious. Room service was prompt and very well priced. The pool has a shallow area for kids behind the outdoor bar. They don’t have a gym but allow you access to the gym at Avani Lesotho. Instead I chose to run, and the neighborhood was safe. Also easy waking distance to Basotho Hat and Pioneer Mall for shopping. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and can’t wait to return. We miss it already!

The only small recommendation I have is for them to play music in the lounge and restaurant area and perhaps outside in the bar area. I think that would help put people at ease and provide background noise- sometimes I felt like my daughter was too loud since it was dead quiet.

I stayed at Avani Maseru for a week on a business trip in Early January. Their service was excellent, friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet and Dinner menu are delicious and value for money. The hotel is near to a Portuguese restaurant, pioneer mall, Basotho hut and other restaurants.
Only negative point is Aircons, were placed by the window and covered by the curtains, due to this the circulation is restricted. Mangement need to address this issue.

Very good. I enjoyed my stay and the swimming pool. Two beds in the room is a plus for me as I move with 2 children, it works out perfectly. Just consider to experdite renovation of the sonar/ steam room. Also consider opening the salon for ease of access.

I want to preface this by saying that I understand that running a hotel is difficult, that sometimes certain problems are one-time events that are not the norm (and should be given a pass), and that I try to be friendly regardless of the circumstances. I also want to say that a lot of the staff here were perfectly friendly and the pool area was resonably nice, but none of this mitigates the fact that this is a rotten hotel.

First off, it was opened in the late '60s and it looks like it's been shoddily patched and un-renovated since. We arrived and the front receptionist was speaking to a few people, so my husband and I stood in behind them and waited. After about five minutes, we realized they were her friends and just shooting the breeze, and she finally checked us in after making it clear we were taking away from her social time. We got to our room, and the hall outside stank of vomit. The room had one towel (even though there were two beds) and it took them a couple of hours to deliver a second. The power strip, clock, and a good portion of the other things run by electricity didn't work, and the bathroom was collapsing into disrepair. Oh, and here's something you won't hear at the Maseru Sun- "Nice work cleaning up the Maseru Sun." There were cigarette butts and cherry pits littering the balcony, and inside the room was so dirty the only way to tell the room was ready for us was because the beds were made.

We wanted to book a tour or actvity in Lesotho so went down to the front desk. Almost all of the guests at the hotel are locals (which can be a great sign), but as such, they have no ability or interest to help book something, so we had to go online. They have internet access at the hotel, but unlike almost all of the other Southern African hotels we stayed at (at half the price), internet was for a fee and incredibly expensive. With nothing to do for the rest of the day, we decided to check out the casino. After walking around the grounds for a while and unable to find it, we asked an employee where it was. He looked at us like we were crazy- "There isn't one." The Maseru Sun Hotel and Casino (written on all of their signage)doesn't have a casino. Of course.

The buffet was fine, but we witnessed a waitress walk by, drop a handful of silverware on their disgusting carpet, then pick it up and place it on tables. Not that big a deal, but it adds up.

The capper and real problem is that we paid a lot of money for the room. We booked the two-day stay on the hotel's website the day before, but while we were there we saw that they were offering a promotion that included a ticket to their big New Year's party and a room for almost 50% less that what we paid. When we asked why that rate wasn't offered online, they said we should have stopped by and not pre-booked. When we replied that we drove from Swaziland the day before and couldn't have just swung by earlier, the receptionist then said we should have called. Sigh.

If you can get a good rate, have low standards and a high frustration tolerance, and don't mind doing nothing, by all means stay here. Otherwise there seem to be a lot of other really great places in Lesotho, but they are more indie options not on the standard travel booking sites. On day two of the trip we did a pony trek from Semonkong Lodge, who were friendly, competent, and totally pro, even for a remote operation (and the food was awesome). Stay there.

The hotel is touted as a 5 Star hotel!
I was very impressed that I got upgraded after booking online and really looked forward to a relaxing evening watching TV and sipping on some wine...

I was informed that their phones were not working upon checking in and these were sorted out within no time.

Both TV sets were nonoperational to the extent that they baffled the repairman who was sent to repair them; by the way he promised to arrange for me to be moved to another room which never happened.

Now here's a bummer...remember the extreme below freezing temperatures that were experienced on Thursday the 10th July, 2014? Well...there was no hot water in my suite!!!

I had by now given up on complaining and decided to just check-out and leave the hotel to their own devices!

4 no water at the hotel
5 television wasn't working. Called reception and maintenance countless times for assistance and was told the maintenance guy was on his way. Perhaps he lost his way.
