This place was average, clean but the room had ventilation aside from the bathroom window. We couldn't leave the door open because Mosquitos were coming in every night! Also, they offered free buffet breakfast each morning but the variety was very limited for non-Ethiopians. And after a three week stay, the last week the wifi stopped working.
The pluses were the staff, they were all very nice and accommodating and kept the hotel very clean!

I have been to Solish Hotel twice and the first time it was really great the second time it was ok as well. For the price i think it's great value for money compared to other hotels in Addis that i have stayed in. The staff are the best feature here, kind and always willing to help.

The reviews I saw on this hotel led me to believe that it would be a good option for a business trip when most other hotels were booked. I was very disappointed, as it was lacking in many areas.
First, the shower was terrible - it alternated between scalding and cold, with only a couple seconds transition in between. I've never experienced a shower that bad before.

The staff was very nice - but I think this hotel is a long way off from being an acceptable business hotel.be careful not to be cheated by the owner of the hotel;

I wanted to like Solish International Hotel. Really, I did. It’s owned by the friend of a friend, but I just can’t like it. I’ve stayed here three times, hoping my stay would improve each time. But, it hasn’t.

First, the positive. The furniture in the rooms is new and pleasant to the eyes, even if the furniture may be too big for the room, thus making very little space to move around. The staff are friendly.

Now, for the negatives. The biggest issue is the plumbing. It seems to be a universal problem throughout the hotel…at least the three different rooms I have stayed in. Sinks do not drain well; and, when they do, they often leak on the floor. The shower fixture makes it almost impossible to pull the knob out to transfer the water to the shower head AND keep the water lever in to keep the water turned on and flowing. To turn the water on, you must push the lever down, but that pushes in the knob that needs to be out to transfer the water to the shower. And, in Room 301 on my last stay I never did get enough water to flow in the shower to bathe. I finally had to bathe using a bottle of drinking water. The sink had only a trickle.

The second time I stayed at Solish I had a room on the first floor. There seemed to be a major water leak somewhere in the room, because the carpet outside the bathroom was completely water logged. I had to step in it in order to access the bathroom, and it went “squish, squish, squish” and was so soaked with water that my feet got wet, even though I was wearing sandals. Apparently, the water had been there a while because it was starting to smell moldy.

The room that a colleague was staying in had water leaking through the light fixture in the bathroom, which seemed to us to be very dangerous. So, she requested to change rooms. She got a new room, but it took an hour to change her.

The mattress in Room 301 felt like a box spring, and a colleague traveling with me said her mattress in her 2nd floor room also felt like a box spring. It was very, very hard and uncomfortable. I tossed and turned all night long.

The hotel advertises free WiFi. But, the internet has been down for more than two weeks, and no one seems to know what the problem is or when it will be fixed. Business travelers may find this very challenging.

The second time I stayed at Solish there were no pillow cases on the pillows. So, the Porter, who assisted in bringing my luggage, came back to put on pillow cases. Great. But, when I finally went to bed, they were still very wet from having been washed. Fortunately, I traveled with my own pillow case. So, I removed the wet pillow case and used my own.

There are many nice light fixtures in the rooms, but most of them do not have light bulbs in them, or they do not work. The second time I stayed at Solish International Hotel, the light in the room was so dim, I had to use my own torch (flash light) to be able to see to unpack my suitcase and get settled in the room. There were many nice fixtures in the room, but all but one did not work.

As with almost every hotel where I have stayed in Ethiopia, the people working at the hotel do not seem to be empowered to solve problems except by moving you to a different room. I live in Africa; I have stayed in very simple guest houses that do not have running water or indoor toilets. My issue is not the lack of amenities. My issue is paying for amenities that are not delivered, and staff who are not empowered to reduce the room rate when the amenities are not working. I don’t mind taking a bucket bath with cold water. What I mind is paying $35 per night when there is no water in the bath, only a trickle in the sink, and no basin or jerry can available to take a bucket bath, and then still paying $35 for the room because the receptionist is not empowered to compensate for their deficiencies.

So, beware of deceiving appearances. You cannot “judge a book by its cover.” In this case, the cover is very nice, but once you open the book, there’s not much there.

stayed here for two nights recently while traveling on business, looking to get away from the pricey "Mega-hotel" properties that often are the preferred destinations for many westerners. I found this hotel to be ideal. It was nicely appointed, reasonably priced and clean with lovely small balconies that over look the city streets. its's true that the staff was exceptionally helpful, courteous and accommodating to myself and my colleagues. There is a wonderful, interesting market area a short walk from the hotel and for the adventurous, he central bus and taxi area is also nearby should you want to venture out across the city. Not too far from the airport either. Only one glitch that should be temporary is - The city is currently under massive construction for a future public transit/subway system and this could make it difficult to find for some taxi drivers. I expect this to be resolved within the next couple of years after which I imagine could make this a much more popular place with nearby subway access.
Thank rebecca k
