Amazingly beautiful hotel right in Vic Falls town! You can hear the falls from your room and everyone is so friendly and hospitable. Big comfortable bed and delicious breakfast and dinner included. We were sad we only had one night here and hope to be back one day!

Ilala Lodge will not disappoint, luxury rooms, very clean and comfortable. Delicious food, and staff were excellent. So friendly and nothing was a problem. Perfect location and within walking distance to the Falls. Sunset cruise through the hotel was also beautiful!

Ilala Lodge is absolutely lovely. Very peaceful grounds with lovely lawn to sit and have a sundowner. The interior decor is beautiful with lots of spaces to sit and relax. The staff was super friendly. Our room was very large with a balcony looking out over the lawn to the falls. You could see the spray over the tree line and hear the falls. I woke up in the night to a grazing sound and when I looked out there were three hippos dining on the lawn below my balcony! Nature at our doorstep. The walk to the falls was just a few minutes, and they are as spectacular as they’ve been billed. Be sure to take a raincoat. The hotel will provide you with an umbrella. Take both as the spray from the falls is very heavy at some viewing points. Also the food was outstanding. The hotel really was perfect. We also walked over to the Victoria Falls Hotel for coming coffee on the Stanley Terrace with a view from below the falls. Lovely. For anyone worried about safety, please don’t. All Covid precautions were in place every where we went. Temperatures taken, hand sanitizer everywhere, and masks in all public spaces. Everything from the minute we landed was spotless. Zimbabwe is ready and waiting for the return of its guests. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Welcoming service, large rooms, a walk to Vic Falls, though pricey. We walked to the bridge separating Zimbabwe from Zambia, where one can see the Falls from afar. On the way back we saw an elephant and a bush buck. The town is tiny and the locals accost all tourists, as they have had no work during COVID-19 due to the collapse of tourism. Don’t engage them and they will leave you alone.

When my husband and I arrived in Vic Falls at the end of November, we were saddened to see how hard the tourism industry had been hit during the year of COVID. The town was quiet, and though we’d never been before, we could tell it was a shadow of its former self. And then we arrived at Ilala Lodge. As we walked in, we were met with bright smiles all round and possibly the friendliest people we’d ever met. We also immediately fell in love with the style and warmth of the hotel. The décor and style of Ilala Lodge is the perfect mix of luxury and home, with a lovely and tasteful African flare. We were thrilled that this would be our base for the next 5 days. From there on out, everything was incredible. The food at the Palm Restaurant was fantastic, and when we asked the restaurant manager, Keith, whether it would be possible to include some game on the menu, he and the chef prepared a special menu for us with Springbok, Crocodile and Ostrich. It was outrageously good, and we were so impressed by the lengths everyone went to. Not to mention our favourite barman, Lucky, who made the perfect G&T. On the second day of our trip, one of the hotel managers, Edson, walked up to us at breakfast with a beaming smile and said he had a present for us. He was upgrading us to a suite! We were bowled over by the luxury of our new room – if it weren’t for the beautiful waterfall awaiting us, we probably wouldn’t have left. If you’re considering going to Ilala Lodge – have a look at their incredible suites! You won’t regret it. Thank you Edson! Traveling in the time of COVID, we were aware that many of the usual Vic Falls activities had been suspended but once again, the hotel staff made sure our trip was filled with activities. The first thing we did was the Ra-Ikane sunset cruise, which was out of this world! Our captain and guide knew everything there was to know about the Zambezi and all the animals, and they took us to see big groups of hippos, crocodiles, and various different birds. It was spectacular. We’d also hoped to do micro-lighting and swim in Devils pool, but they were unavailable so instead, Jane at Ilala Lodge suggested we try the gorge swing. It was absolutely terrifying!! But the views were out of this world and the thrill was awesome. Highly recommend! The main activity on our agenda, though, was white water rafting. On our first day at Ilala, we told Jane that this was at the top of our wish list. But even though the rafting companies were still running, they needed a minimum of six people to take us out. It got to the fourth day of our trip and still, no one else had shown any interest in rafting. At this point, even the lovely owners at Ilala Lodge were trying to recruit people to raft with us! And sure enough, the team at Ilala found us another group to go rafting with on our very last day! And it was honestly the best rafting trip we’d ever been on (and we LOVE rafting). But for anyone who’s contemplating doing it, just know: the hike back up the ravine is TOUGH. The rafting team has amazing staff who help you back up, but its exhausting – particularly in the searing heat that we had. Our first ever trip to Vic Falls was better than anything we could have imagined, and it wouldn’t have been nearly as wonderful and exciting were it not for the extraordinary team at Ilala Lodge. If you’re going to Vic Falls and you’re looking for 5-star treatment, look no further! We’ll definitely be going back.
