#1 of 47 Speciality lodging in Victoria Falls
5-Star rated Matetsi Victoria Falls on the pristine 55 000 hectare Matetsi Private Game Reserve, offers a safari oasis that combines an exceptional wildlife experience and 15km (9.3 miles) of private Zambezi River frontage with easy access to the majestic Victoria Falls. Matetsi Private Game Reserve pays homage to the wonderfully rich cultural heritage of Zimbabwe by showcasing a vibrant theme of wood and copper, the “red gold” of the country’s historical mining industry, throughout the spectacular interiors of Matetsi River Lodge and Matetsi River House. Splashes of bright blue remind guests of the rushing waters of the Zambezi River. Guests staying at Matetsi River Lodge and Matetsi River House have the opportunity to take advantage of an extensive Boutique, a fitness studio, massage sala and boardroom. A 20 meter long, rim-flow swimming pool stretches along the riverbank, while an exclusive wine cellar boasts eye-level views of the Zambezi River.

A very average lodge experience at 5-star prices. Severely over-priced experience compared to other high end lodges. Staff is friendly but disorganized. Rooms are spacious but not well maintained. Pictures on the website are not reflective of the current condition of the rooms. Food was average at best. The game ranger and tracker seemed more focused on their own photography than guest experience. Despite this, the game drives provided great sites. The staff is kind and tries hard. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. On another note, the VFA airport was a complete mess both arriving and departing. Be prepared for long wait times.

My husband and I travel all over Africa, but we still rave about Matetsi being one of our favorite spots. From arrival to the luxurious suite, views, game drives, outstanding food, friendly staff and professional guides, Matetsi delivers in every single way. Unfortunately we missed the boat cruise on the Zambezi because of the winds, but I am sure that would have been just as great as the game drives, where we encountered mating lions twice! We love that the lodge is in a remote area but still close enough to enjoy the beautiful Victoria Falls. The professionalism, passion and family spirit of Matetsi is what made our stay very special, not to forget the little touches here and there (ice cream in the bush / lunch at the wine cellar) . Thank you to the entire team for treating us like royality - from reservations to lodge managers, chefs, cleaning staff, guides and trackers – it was better than 5*.

Our first trip to Zimbabwe and first game drive was at Matetsi. From the moment we were happily greeted at the entrance with hand sanitizer by our butler, Timmy, our visit was incredible. A delicious heavy tea was waiting on us as our bags were taken to our lovely apartment/room. A troop of baboons ran along the river as we got there. A few hours later, we were out on a game drive with Simba and Musa. Their skills and knowledge were tremendous. It was just the four of us for three days and they both made our drives memorable with their engaging personalities and the easy way they taught us about the land, river, plants, and animals. My partner is a keen photographer and Simba always made sure she had the best light and angles for the wildlife photos. Our housekeeper, Future, kept our room tidied multiple times a day. Every morning at 5am, hot chocolate and cookies arrived in our pass-through. On our final night, we found he'd drawn a bubble bath upon our return from the ever-plentiful and delicious meal. We learned during our stay that Matetsi was awarded top game lodge in Africa. We completely agree. A magical place where you can immerse yourself in the setting and know that your every need is being satisfied.

Beautiful place if you love nature and want a peace of mind away of your daily life. We really enjoyed our stay.. I will come back .. these people deserve the support we should give them, the are preserving nature and animals. The staff is great and very knowledgeable. From the minute you are picked from the Airport by Mr. Parka you will enjoy the ride to the hotel and then the Hotel. I met several people who are a repeater to the place. Enjoy
