Tsowa Island is situated in the Zambezi National Park, a 56 000 ha game reserve which is also a renowned birding hot spot of 400 different species and home to lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, sable and numerous antelope. Zambezi National Park stretches from the Victoria Falls approximately 50 km upstream. Tsowa Island, 1.5 km long and 400m wide has never been inhabited and is fringed by lush forests. Guests are accommodated in stretch Bedouin style tents with timber frames and sides on wooden decks situated under massive Jackalberry trees, overlooking the Zambezi River. The outside deck area, which is also in the cool forest, has a dining area flowing onto a sunken fire pit which overlooks the river. The main area is linked to the pool area which overlooks the river and is situated in a sunny spot. Easy access to explore Victoria falls on a day excursion.

Very friendly, welcoming and accommodating staff, delicious food, and seriously comfortable tented accommodation. Francie and her team looked after us and catered for our eccentricities with calm competence. Wonderful to be playing bridge with the mighty Zambezi streaming past. What a beautiful patch of paradise with birdsong and hippo grunts. Africa at its best.

A blend of Safari and luxury with such attention to detail. The tents are nestled amongst the trees and the whole camp is very eco friendly overlooking the Zambezi river. It is peaceful as not many other boats around. The birdlife and animals are great to see. Francie and her team offer great service and the food is delicious.

My spouse and I went to Zimbabwe to see Victoria Falls and Zambezi National Park. We had the good fortune to stay at picturesque Tsowa Lodge for three nights, which was a highlight of our month in Africa. It is hard to capture our wonderful experiences in a short review. The camp is fabulously small. In addition to lovely sitting/dining/bar area, campfire area, and swimming pools, there are currently 4 well-appointed guest tents nicely spaced for privacy (loved the outdoor shower overlooking the river!). Staying in a tent in the wilds of Africa is a little out of my comfort zone (even though we were on an island) but I always felt safe. We were very impressed with the friendly and capable team Francie has put together, who collectively treated us like celebrities while maintaining a relaxed and comfortable vibe. The food was astonishingly good, especially considering chef Elton had to accommodate significant dietary restrictions. Guide Vusi was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and he made sure we saw a huge variety of terrestrial and aquatic animals and birds (we especially loved the close-up encounter with a large pride of lions!). Further shouts-outs to staff Fresh, Johanne, and Gerald for also being so wonderful during our stay. After a late afternoon land or boat cruise, we enjoyed “sundowners” (snacks and drinks) from wonderful viewpoints along the Zambezi River to watch the sunset. Our day tour of Victoria Falls was also highly enjoyable. We do not hesitate to recommend Tsowa to anyone contemplating staying in the area.
