The door was not closing properly
The shower runs out of hot water. Looks like a number of rooms share one geyser. If you delay to take your bath you will have to endure cold water.

The RTG online booking system is perfect.

Good location. Can be noisy on weekends. The price is a bit on the high side given the use of United State Dollars and when compared with similar international hotels. For example StayEasy in South Africa charges less than US$40 including breakfast. Charging US$60 to 75 is pricing outside market and chases away tourists from Zimbabwe.

I walked into the hotel to book two rooms for 2 nights on the night of 8th January 2024..The following morning had to cancel the second night. I was informed that I will get my refund in 3 days of which I was leaving Harare on the morning of the 10th January, so I left. Until today, 4th February 2024, I have not heard anything from the hotel apart from requests to complete a review about my stay. Nobody has emailed me, called me or send a text message regarding my refund.

I would like my refund because instead of 3 days, it is 35 days now. I am totally not happy.

I stayed at this hotel because it was cheap, I have stayed at all the hotels in the past 10 years in Harare and this is one of the cheapest and it shows it when you stay there, it is in the city centre should you want to go there but there is not much to see, there are more modern shopping area's in and around Harare much better equiped

My last visit to this hotel was in 2005 and the rooms were neat and well maintained. The hotel standards have terribly deteriorated since then and luckily this time I only stayed one night. I believe that the prices being charged now are ridiculously high compared to the service provided.

Great city centre option with clean rooms and very friendly staff. Breakfast buffet was a little disorganised on the first morning. We had an early departure the second day and the staff prepared an excellent takeaway breakfast for us which made up for the previous day.

I only stayed a single night, and found the staff very friendly and helpful. On arrival no TV remote in room but this was quickly sorted by a telephone call to reception.

Furnishings in the room a bit on the aging side but still very clean and acceptable. Nice firm mattress on bed which was covered with crisp clean linen.

Bathroom has an old tub (but clean) which is also fitted with a handheld shower. Unfortunately shower didn't work but could still enjoy a nice hot soak after a days traveling. Clean towels and mini soap & shampoos were thoughtfully provided.

Some of the fittings in the bathroom were a bit loose with a screw or two missing. It didn't bother me enough to insist on a new room though.

I ordered room service which was delivered within 15 min. The meal even arrived properly covered and hot and was also well prepared.

My room wasn't fitted with an air-conditioner. However, the ambient temperature didn't call for one thankfully. Actually got a bit chilly in the evening and a good oil heater which was provided in the room worked perfectly.

No safe in the room, but the hotel does offer a safekeeping service with security. I left my backpack containing among other my laptop, iPad and spare mobile phone with them when I went strolling through town. Got all my items back with no problems later.

My two grievances:
I was struggling to connect to the Free WiFi during office hours. Access improved dramatically after 6pm though, and I was able to catch up with loved ones back home.

Second grief was lack of fridge in my room to keep drinks cold.

Conclusion:
Will definitely return as the hotel offers good value for money for it's 3star rating.

We booked the Ambassador on short notice when our first choice had a water problem and cancelled. The location is decent if you want to be near the National Museum (5 min walk). Our room had a separate living room with small refrigerator and chairs. The bedroom has AC. The WiFi was very strong in our room (302) allowing me to download music. The main problem with this hotel is the overpriced breakfast ($20 for breakfast in East Africa? GET REAL) and the noise from the disco next door (room 302 is noisy on Fri/Sat until 4 am). This part of Harare also suffers from a lack of decent places to eat breakfast or lunch nearby. There are lots of banks nearby (with no money!) but nowhere to eat breakfast or dinner. We took taxis to the Avondale Mall ($3 each way) to find restaurants and visit the grocery store to stock our refrigerator.

Note that with the current financial upheaval, people want the US dollar, but there is much confusion about the conversion rate with Zimbabwe bonds (the newly floated currency). The official exchange rate is 2.5 bonds / 1 USD. However, on the street, you can get up to 3.5/1 ! Be careful of businesses that don't understand the exchange and want to charge you 1 for 1 if you choose to use US dollars! Some places will take a foreign Visa or Mastercard, but check to be sure you agree with the exchange rate before they run your card!
Most taxi drivers will buy a US $20 bill and give you 60 or 64 bonds for it. It's easier to buy food and groceries right now with bonds!
Finally, if you do bring US dollars, bring $1 and $5 bills and no one will have change for a $20 or larger.

I stayed in this hotel early Dec 2014 for 3 nights while attending a conference in Harare. The location is ideal as it is right in the city. The staff are quite friendly and helpful. Good breakfast with lots of variety. Rooms are clean but could do with some face lift. The lift is quite tired and honestly every time i took it I would always pray it doesn't get stuck halfway!
Generally a good hotel for those on business trips.
