We recently spent a couple of nights at the Armadale Boutique Lodge during a brief visit to Harare. The lodge has a charming atmosphere, the gardens beautiful, the staff welcoming and friendly and the food copious and very tasty. We would definitely return.

What a gem of a place. From the lovely owner Nicky to the " go to " Shingi with her wonderful team. This is a wonderful lodge right down to its quirky passwords. Stayed there for 2 weeks on a business trip and was well looked after. Beds very comfortable and clean rooms. Good breakfast and ordered meals. Beautiful garden and pool.
Chef Elliot is very flexible when it comes to your order.
A real home away from home.

I have stayed in this hotel twice and have a very good feel of this place. In one occasion it was for a month. As I generally do, my reviews are from the view point of business traveller.

1. Ambience: The place makes you feel very good, because of the lush green garden, the well maintained lawn and small sit out next to the small pool where you may choose to have a meeting of 4-6 people. The place is just outside the hustle and bustle of the city, especially after a long day at work the peacefulness gives you the much needed relaxation. Nobody is in a hurry things go on smoothly. As it is a small place you get to meet other guests and know a bit about each other, you can find some good company in here. Score: 4.5 on 5.

2. Rooms: There are 9 rooms as a whole, some of them may be smaller than the others but neatly maintained with room heaters for the cold winter which can go down to 10*C. Some rooms have old style CRT TVs which is not so encouraging, but all of them have cable connection with most TV channels. There is also a 2 bed room - cottage with a private garden for people who want stay for longer tenure. Score 3.5 on 5.

3. Food: This is one area where veggies like me find it a bit difficult, it is not because of the quality or the quantity but the choice one would have is less, otherwise my colleagues who were animal lovers were enjoying, and not to forget the complimentary breakfast, that is good and the hotel gives you options. The breakfast is ready at the time you like even at 7 am but the food; I find it to be priced on the higher side. There are also couple of good places near the lodge for good dining with sufficient options. Score 3.5 on 5.

4. Service: This is one area where there is absolutely nothing to complain the people are very friendly and warm, will attend to you. The cook will prepare the food you ask and the way you want it. Coffee & Tea is unlimited. The managers at the hotel are very helpful and ensure your stay is comfortable. The laundry is taken care very well even though it is a bit expensive from the stand point of this place not being a star hotel. Score 4.5 on 5.

5. Amenities: This is one area where things can be much better, internet was very slow and expensive, but the latest update is that it is free but the speed still needs to be tested. There is no gym so the health freaks are disappointed. The pool is small, probably useful, even though I could not get a chance to swim as I stayed during the winter. The library has small collection of the books, and a cosy reading room with a music player and a small good old CRT TV. There is a good collection of wine and drinks. The compound has electric fence as all others have in Harare. There is also the services of chauffer incase you decide on short visits around Harare. Score 3 on 5.

Overall this place offers an experience of staying in cosy, quite, peaceful place amidst rich greenery. The above ratings are purely on the basis of my personal experience during my stay and is unbiased.

What a glorious surprise in the middle of the 'wealthy' district of Harare. Thoroughly taken back with jaw dropping beauty and sentiments of colonial Zimbabwe ran high and wild. Gorgeous gorgeous property, don't miss it !

Back to Harare in a business trip after only three weeks from the first trip. This time I elected to stay away from the city center. I stayed at Armadale Boutique Lodge. The lodge is located in the classy Borrowdale area. The lodge consists of only 9 rooms surrounded by large garden and has a swimming pool. The lodge is different experience for me. the place is very quite and relaxing. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. Reliable hot water at all times. House keeping is excellent and the amenities are very good. The lodge has its homey style where you go to the kitchen and order your dinner in advance to specify what you want to eat. the bar is open you just grab what you want and write down in an honesty book. The service is very good. the staff are professional and very responsive. Prices are reasonable. The lodge manger will make every thing in her capacity to make your life easy and respond to your needs. In conclusion, the lodge is simply nice and I would definitely stay there again.

The first thing you see are the exquisite gardens, but your lasting memory will be of the exceptionally friendly staff who make your stay at Armadale Lodge an exceptional experience. Managers Tayla, Michael, and Shelley ensure that you are comfortable in every possible way -- from your room to your meals, helping you move around Harare and Zimbabwe -- they make sure you have a very special, delightful experience. As one example, when it became clear that I took fresh milk in my tea, they made sure I had a refrigerator delivered to my room to keep it fresh! Chefs Victor and Christopher prepare an exceptional breakfast -- fresh fruits and fruit salad, crepes, cheese, eggs any way you can imagine, meats, toasts and home made jams, coffees and teas -- which you consume overlooking the exquisite gardens, as well as lunches and delicious dinners. The housekeeping staff, grounds-keepers, and guards all round-out your extraordinary experience at this gracious Lodge. Evenings can be spent sipping wine and reading but the fire -- the Lodge has a large library from which you can choose a title or identify the exquisite birds. The Lodge is a 10 minute stroll to the Village Walk and Sam Levy shops, restaurants, and cinema, as well as the Amara Spa, so a weekend car isn't necessary. Finally, the beds are exceptionally comfortable and the hot water endless. In all, Armadale Lodge provides an exceptional experience: Nicki's running an exceptional boutique lodge.

Just stayed for 3 nights for a work trip. So lovely to feel so well taken care of. Staff was solicitous and attentive to every need; tasty breakfast and dinner, and the grounds are gorgeous. They've done a fabulous job of decorating, and there's something delightful to ooh and aah over around every corner. Convenient location as well. Highly recommend this place.

This was a really luxurious lodge that reminded me of what grandeur must have felt like back in the early 1900s with fine large wooden furniture pieces that you wish Ikea could imitate somehow. Plush chaises, couches and chairs surrounded by exquisite artifacts in the large outdoor common room, the indoor library and another indoor parlor room. There's also an outdoor pool where you can have breakfast in the mornings. What I liked most was how private and quiet the place was with only 10 rooms. I was treated like a queen!

We stayed at Armadale whilst on holiday in Zim for a family wedding. I am from Zim but have lived abroad for many years, returning regularly for business and family visits.

All I can say is that I don't know why I haven't discovered this gem previously! Beautifully appointed rooms, all modern conveniences once would expect anywhere, but the real secret is the wonderful staff.

During our short 3 night stay we were made to feel at home and absolutely welcome. The perfect balance of attentiveness and privacy, simply magic.

We will certainly be back and will recommend this lodge to all our friends and business colleagues alike.
