We came to Zimbabwe to attend a wedding at Spurwing Island, but spent the first 2 days and last 2 days at Wild Geese Lodge. Not knowing what to expect we were pleasantly surprised, on arrival, to find the lodges set in such a beautiful setting, with monkeys at your windows and zebra and gazelles in the long grass. The lodges, themselves, were a little tired in decor, but very clean and airy. A heater and fan are provided. The staff are among the friendliest I have met, and nothing was too much trouble. The food in the restaurant was superb, from the cooked to order breakfasts to the a la carte menu. The piri piri chicken was certainly one of the best I have tasted. The service was friendly and very very relaxed. They always sounded like they were having fun in the kitchen, so be prepared for a leisurely wait for your food. We also visited the Mekka Bar in Borrowdale, for the combined hen / stag party and had a meal at Victoria Twenty Two Restaurant in Harare, which was one of the best I have ever eaten.

We were here to visit a friend’s wedding. Stayed for 2 days at the lodge.
The Resort:
All accommodations are cottages and are spread through out the pristinely kept grounds. The total resort area covers about 2 city blocks and has winding paths that meander around the area presenting stunning views of the game reserve below the hill. The game reserve has many types of antelope and several paths that take the hiker down to a little dam and back again. I think the entire loop is about 10km. The whole area is situated outside of Harare (capital city) and away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The main goal here is to relax and recharge. If your looking for loud crowded night life – this is not for you. The entire resort is walled off and there is guarded 24hrs. Parking is just inside the gate and secure. The traveler enters the resort through the main lodge. This huge thatched roof building is distinctly African in its décor and is the focal point of activity for the resort. The lodge has the bar, restaurant, veranda and reception offices. Radiating from there are the private cottages where the guest stays – sprinkled through out the woods. The grounds are constantly being gardened by a small army of workers to keep it in a gorgeous state.
The Cottages:
Ours was a double bed by the pool and a short walk to the main lodge. The building is also thatched to give it its African appeal. The décor in the room was very classy and also very African. The room provided bottled water (city water is not safe to drink), mosquito coil, TV (South African satellite TV), and bathroom soaps and shampoos etc. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like the dead. They also provide a mini safe in every cottage to store valuables while out and about. The bath room was kept very clean (cleaned daily) and have separate shower and tub. The minor snag was our hot water heater was giving us some problems, but the resort sent some one to fix it minutes after we told them. The cottages are really huge inside and outside each one have a porch with chairs and a table – more ways to help you relax.
The Restaurant/Bar:
They only served food at set times, so when you are in your room you must consult the info packet. The menu was some what limited – they had a daily specialty without many choices, however the food was really good. I did notice that they accommodated special diets if you need to have one. Service is equivalent to western European standards – not too bad – but could be improved (this is only the restaurant – not the lodge staff or maid service).
Other Stuff:
This resort caters to special events and conferences a lot (most of their business because Zimbabwe tourism has suffered from politics). They are extremely efficient with their event planning and very professional. The wedding was beautifully done and went very smooth – which is a testament to the staff. We also had the privilege of being there for their Easter Brunch. About 200 people came to the resort for this huge lunch event. There was live music, great food and plenty of alcohol for everyone. This resort has been doing extremely well despite the tough times in Zimbabwe.
On another note, Zimbabwe is not the conflict riddled country the media likes to talk about. Yes there are problems, but since the $US is the official currency, the economy has settled down significantly and we felt very safe throughout our travels in Zimbabwe.

Overall the Wild Geese resort was a refreshing and beautiful place to visit and we recommend it to anyone who is looking for a little serenity in southern Africa.

I stayed for one night due to an event that was taking place at the lodge. Upon check-in, I was given a room that had a very strong odor and asked to move rooms. The staff were very accommodating and changed my room to another which was better - thank you! But I found the bathroom to be not very clean. I was looking forward to taking a bath, but it looked unclean as did the shower. The light fixture in the bathroom was just a bulb with no fixture. The television remote did not work well and the batteries were falling out because there was no cover to hold them in.

Dear Megan, Thank you very much for the review, we take all feedback at the lodge seriously and try to improve services based on it. Unfortunately our ceramic ware is stained from borehole water but we have just this week tried out a new product that will remove the stains and it worked wonders! We will look into the light fixture and the tv remote as that seems unusual for our lodges and will be fixed. Thank you again for your time to give us a review, we look forward to hosting you next time around!

A great place to host a function, provided that there is electricity! A perfect wedding was ruined because their generator was not working when there was a power-cut, and they were slow in reacting to source another one (it took them almost 3 hours!). When booking an event, insist on having a standby generator and make them test is for you.

Dear Kuda D, Thank you for your review, we appreciate the feedback. My apologies for delay in reply, I have taken over the Trip Advisor account and am going through reviews with no response. The power outage you are referring to was a very unfortunate incident, which was certainly something out of the ordinary from our usual standard. We have a 110KVA generator on standby to power the Lodge and events which take place, this generator is switched on and tested before every single wedding or event we host at the Lodge as part of our protocol. This same protocol was followed on the day you mention. The generator failed on this day due to circumstances totally beyond our control, and was unforeseeable, which the clients were fully compensated for. In terms of sourcing another generator, our team did react immediately, including off-duty and off-site management. Whilst it may seem we were slow to react because of no immediate solution, we assure you ALL methods of sourcing another generator were exhausted by our management team. Seeing as it was after 9pm on Christmas Eve, with many service providers fully booked, away on holiday, or with their families, it was a near impossible task, exacerbated by the phone lines going dead as well as almost zero cell-phone signal due to the widespread power outage over Harare. The Bride and Groom and their families were very happy with the wedding aside from the power outage, which took place after the ceremony and reception, including desert service had taken place. In terms of ensuring this problem cannot happen again, we have entered into a contract with a service provider who, if our generator fails at any point in time, will guarantee they have another one on standby to supply us 24/7. We hope this explains our position on the night fully, and you are assured you will not encounter similar circumstance.

Dear Freddy, Thank you for your review, I have taken over the Trip Advisor account and am responding to reviews that have had no response. You were at the Lodge many years ago, and I am pleased to let you know a lot has changed. our main Lodge burnt down and was re-built, and we have had a Management change in 2012. We have renovated four venues, as well as two of our accommodation lodges, and hope to progress with more improvements in future. Our staff are very helpful now and well-trained, and we often receive compliments on service and food. If you are in Harare again, we would welcome you at the Lodge to experience our turn-around. Please email me on gm@wildgeese.co.zw, or contact 0772145103 or 2917977/9 if you would like to book with us.

On recent travels to Zim we booked in at Wild Geese after hearing such good reviews about the lodge. From the moment we arrived we were not made to feel welcome as they had other functions on, which we felt were more important than their resident guests.

A wedding that was supposed to end at 10pm went on till the small hours of the morning, so much for the peace and tranquility of staying in a country lodge!

On their menu breakfast was "a selection of yoghurts" - only warm banana yoghurt provided, 'a selection of cereals" - only corn flakes in a tupperware container, "a selection of fruit juice' - only apple juice! All of these so called selections crammed onto a small tray. Ordered mushroom omelette and received a dry overcooked omelette with NO mushrooms.....oops the staff forgot to inform us that there were no mushrooms!

Admittedly the room was comfortable even though there was a leaking ceiling, lamp not working and no mirror for drying hair.

When we complained about how unhappy we were the management did a disappearing act........

Lovely lodge in Zimbabwe. We attended a conference here and it was very well presented. The room of the conference was spacious and well ventilated. The staff were so attentive. The meals very delicious. I would recommend this establishment for other functions !

I was in need of a break so me and a companion decided to pay a visit to Wild Geese Lodge. The lodge is situated just outside the city of Harare and getting there was quite easy.

Arriving at Wild Geese we were greeted by friendly staff at reception. After a quick and easy check in process we were shown to our room. The room was neat and tidy, and the linen was clean. The roof was thatch which made it fairly cool. There was also a mosquito net just in case some came out during the night. The only down side was the bathroom, which though clean lacked a few essentials and extras.

After settling in we explored the grounds which were lush and green. We enjoyed taking a walk and there were plenty of birds for those who enjoy bird watching. The lodge is quite tranquil and it is very easy to relax in that setting. There are also conference facilities for those who require them. One thing we did notice is that there is a wedding venue at the lodge and I am not sure what staying at the lodge is like when there is a wedding.

In the evening we went to the restaurant to have supper and even though the terrace was appealing we decided to dine inside as it was a bit nippy. The dining area was nicely decorated, the bar was well stocked and the menu had a nice variety of items. The waiter who served us was friendly and efficient but he was running around a lot between different tables which suggested they were a bit short staffed.

When our food came it was delicious. The meal was exquisitely prepared. The dessert was even more enjoyable and without a doubt the dinner was the highlight of our stay. After a good night’s sleep we visited the restaurant again for our breakfast which was very good. They were very generous with extra food items in the cereal section and the food portions were quite healthy.

After a relaxing morning enjoying their lush gardens we said goodbye to Wild Geese lodge. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would happily stay there again.

I had to the opportunity to film a lovely couple's wedding at this venue this past weekend. The venue is beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The lodges seemed to have everything one would need. As a service provider doing video I was impressed by their provision of plug points, aircon and amenities. The food was awesome. I have rarely found a venue that provides enough lighting to take videography into consideration. I trust the HD video we filmed is going to be outstanding..
