It is has been two months since our Safari trip to Tanzania. A day hasn’t passed that I haven’t thought about my experience and if I could, I would repack my bags and return in a moment. One of the contributing factors to our successful trip was the warm hospitality and care that we received from the staff at the Mawe lodges, including the Mawe Tented Camp where we spent two evenings.

The four Mawe lodges were very similar. The accommodations were clean and comfortable – each with a real bed and private bathroom facilities. They have everything you need for washing up after a long day on safari and a peaceful night of sleep before resuming your adventures the next day. The meals were nicely prepared and delicious. The kitchen staff is well trained and ready to please the food preferences of the American and European visitors. It is hard to imagine all the planning and work involved, especially in the remote location of the Mawe Tented Camp, to operate such a comfortable and accommodating facility. Kudos to all the employees - office staff that orders and manages the supplies, the drivers who transport the items across the Serengeti, the maintenance workers who keep the solar panels working and the water running, housekeeping who change the beds and scrub the bathrooms and of course the kitchen staff who prepare all those tasty meals.

The camp manager Frank and his staff went out of their way to make us feel like we were home. It is a wonderful feeling to be greeted by the team as your jeep pulls into the camp after a long day in the park. On our first day, at the conclusion of Frank’s camp orientation he made a statement that really stuck with me and made a huge difference in our trip. He said “we will never hand you anything to drink that isn’t safe. We understand how important your safety is and we know how to manage it.” He said those words with both seriousness and sincerity that I knew in that moment that I could trust the kitchen operation at his camp and the others being operated by the Mawe Lodges. I never had one traveler’s stomach issue the whole time we ate their food and drank their water. I know delivering on that statement isn’t easy in a country where water from the tap isn’t safe to drink. Thank you to Frank and all the camp staff that deliver on that promise every day. And thank you again for your hospitality. We look forward to someday returning to Tanzania and visiting all of you.

This camp was the best a giraffe walked passed not 20 feet away and one could her the animals of a night no fences or gates here and one must request a porter to escort you to and from main tent for evening meal .
Stayed 2 nights in my safari journey this is day 7 and only wished I had more time to relax and enjoy this camp more. Safaris are go go go.
Hot water ,flushing toilet, comfortable bed and meals plentiful with the cooks present to serve you.
Just an amazing camp highly recommended where the animals come to you

After I booked this property I was informed the high costs of airport transfers (250 usd) most companies charge a maximum of 100usd. Game drives are also 250usd per person per day. When I asked if I could reduce the number of game drive days to save on some costs the property informed me the 250 usd daily charge was compulsory regardless of if I go on a game drive or not. These fees are not show on the properties advertisement when booking.

Please be aware park fees are also an additional 130 usd per person per day. The property mentions additional fees but does not advertise the amount.

In total the property tried to charge me an additional 1770 usd in compulsory fees which were not advertised. Other lodges are more transparent and offer better value airport transfers and game drives. Dealing with the property is also very difficult as they fail to respond to most communication.

We were at Serengeti Mawe Tented Camp from 13 th to 15th October 2023, for a safari for 8 days in Tanzania and following a 6 days in Kenya . We continue our beautiful safari itinary in Tanzania in the national park of Serengeti center Tanzania . The Serngeti Mawe Tented camp was our second one to visit in Tanzania . We were greatly greeted by the chief staff of the camp that was so handsome. We really enjoyed our stay of two days at this authentic and beautiful and peaceful tented camp with beautiful views of the plains with incredible and spectacular sunrise and sunset every day. We were very few visitors at this time of the year. Our tent named Simba that was very well situated . This luxury tent is so confortable and we slept so well with the moskito net. We could take our shower with hot water and bottle water is provided. Everything that you need is in the lodge. All the meals were outstanding serve outside with incredible view of the stars, with a bonfire, the others meals served inside of the dining and lounge. Each day, the staff is at our service. All the staff are so accomodating and are always there for our needs or questions, There was always a member of the staff to accompany us from our tent or to return at dark as we were living with the wild animals, as lions or hyenas that could be around, We really felt always very safe there even at nights. We really recommend the Serengeti Mawe tented camp so well located in the sensational national park of Serengeti to do the games drive for many hours and coming back to rest late afternoon. The lunch provided each day from the chef were exceptional. We were so lucky to see so many animals and see so close to us the lion King , lioness, cheetahs , Zebras, Girafe ,elephants in the magnificent scenery of the Serengeti. The staff of Serengeti Mawe Tented Camp will always stayed in our hearts.

This camp was excellent...the rooms had hardwood floors! We enjoyed the hot showers and wifi was availble in the bar and dinning area. They have safety of their guests at the top of their list and always walk with you back and forth to your tent after dark. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well as kind. They offer you a free drink when you arrive and give you the "lay of the land" so you totally understand the area and feel 100% comfortable and safe from the beginning. Great food for dinner and breakfast...amazing choices and cuisine.

This is my second time staying at Mawe. Both times the service and attention from the staff were incredible. They accommodated our dietary needs (there were 13 of us and some needed gluten free, dairy free, soy free and also 2 were vegetarians) and made sure we were safe.
Thank you Mawe!
It's a great value for your money!

Mawe Lodges has been an excellent option for this trip. The quality-price rate is very good. It is not the cheapest, but the quality of the guides, the organization, the Lodges and the management are clearly a excellent option.

Lisa, my contact with Mawe Lodges has always been available and has adapted the trip to different changes. The guides are very attentive and professional, especially Rigo, the guide in the Safaris has been a marvel of knowledge and treatment, he also speaks Spanish which has made communication much easier for us.

On Serengeti safaris we have seen the Big 5 and fantastic experiences with Cheetahs, Mara River Crossing with crocodile attack included, many Lions ( one to three meters from the Lodges) etc. all wonderful.

In summary, Mawe Lodges has been an excellent option with good Tended Lodges, food, besa with very close and professional care and attention. Many thanks to Lisa and everyone who has helped us spend some wonderful days.
Pedro y Mariangeles.

My sister and I had a great safari camp experience at Mawe. We arrived in the evening and was greeted by buffalos near the reception and near our tent. The tented camp was a complete experience. We heard hyenas and other noises at night but regardless we felt safe and slept well. In the morning, there were buffaloes, wildebeest and lions close to the camp. The meals were delicious and tented accommodation has all the amenities including hot shower. Staff was very attentive to our needs. Kudos to Ransom, Chris and team.

We stayed at Mawe as a part of our safari trip and had an excellent stay. Very special to have our own luxury tent. The staff took very good care of us, and we had some extra excitement being followed back to our tent in the evening and passing a hyena lurking in the bushes. Very good food with a local touch. We highly recommend this lodge!

Hello, the tented camp is privately owned and needs to be booked separately, you can book on whichever website you use. From what I can remember it was around $400 for double occupancy and included meals. The fees for the park are as followed: Park entry per 24 hours is $60 USD per person Car fee (if its from african countries than you pay in Tanzania Shilling) its 20,000 per day its approx $15 USD Than there is a camping fee as well: for regular campsite its $30 USD Special campsite (if you book any private tented camps than you have to pay fee for staying there and its separate from your night fees that you pay to the camp operators) its $50 USD per night per person. These fees add up! Its very expansive to visit parks in Tanzania but totally worth it! You can visit Tanapa website for all park fees within Tanzania

Hi, You better off having Tanzanian Shilling with you to pay for drinks. Im not sure if they take credit cards, its a small camp in the "middle of nowhere" with poor wifi connectivity so I would not rely on credit cards. They don't have huge selection for alcoholic drinks. You can always bring your own. Enjoy your trip!

Hello The best way to get to the camp is to fly to Seronera airstrip, there are several airlines that can fly you from Kilimanjaro to Serengeti, alternatively you can fly from Arusha. By road is also possible please contact the camp for further quotation on car transportation and game drives possibilities
