Travellers' Choice
Taasa Lodge, located on the northern edge of the Serengeti in Tanzania, is nestled on a ridge within a private concession. The lodge offers an array of unique opportunities not possible inside the national park. Some of these include private off-road game drives in open vehicles, walking safaris, night game drives, dinners in the bush, sundowners in the concession, authentic visits to a Maasai village, hot air balloon safaris and day trips to the Mara River. The 12 spacious tents are beautifully and luxuriously constructed under canvas and offer stunning views. From each tent you can enjoy the rich plains of the concession while watching animals in their natural habitat. The refurnished main lodge and newly constructed infinity pool also offer staggering views of the landscape. Taasa employs and empowers members of our local community, preserves and protects the indigenous wildlife and natural species of the region and educates global travelers on the rich natural and cultural reso

We, like everyone else right now, purchased the Travelzoo voucher for TAASA. I was immediately impressed by the fact that the owner (Jim Roane) called me personally at 7 in the evening and spent nearly an hour with me on the phone talking about the lodge, travel options and his love for the country and people of Tanzania. I've never had that level of connection with a lodge owner or travel agent. The arrangements made by Roane Travel were mostly flawless. I would say that better communication about the current weather conditions would have helped. I was prepared for 80 degree weather, and many days were mostly in the 60's, which is chilly in an open cab safari vehicle. Also, note that their information says that COVID testing is $150pp to get out of the country. That left me holding onto more cash than was necessary (and decreased some of my tips). It turns out that it is only $25 at the airport. TAASA itself is lovely. Though tents, they are well accommodated and feel like hotel rooms. There is plenty of hot water and great furniture. They can be a bit noisy when the wind blows. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodative, even with a picky kid. The game drives were good or excellent. The ones that were just "good" were mostly on the private reserve that TAASA shares with &Beyond. We spent a lot of our time in that area, and the wildlife was hit or miss. Anytime that we went into the northern Serengeti, however, the wildlife was overwhelming. My son and I were lucky enough to be the only ones our week to see a river crossing. I would suggest you push for more time in the park and less in the reserve. Also of note, the WiFi is spotty, at best. Be prepared to disconnect.

Thank you for taking the time to give an incredible and honest review, we are so appreciative! For the weather - we always advise to dress in layers as it can be very warm and significantly drop at night! As for the COVID Testing, requirements are constantly changing so it might have changed while you were traveling! I am so glad that you loved the game drives and time at the Lodge. There is nothing quite like experiencing a River Crossing - what a special moment to share with your child. As for the Wifi, we are currently working on getting it improved and appreciate your feedback so we can make it better. Thanks for visiting us this summer, we hope you come again soon!

Just returned from an awesome trip to TAASA Lodge. The staff were incredible - our guide, Erick, and tracker, Loyarata, showed us incredible wildlife and shared many interesting facts. Our butler, Wilson, was right there to attend to every single need. The lodge was fantastic and the tents were comfortable and safe. We had elephants rummage past our tent feeding on acacia trees at night. A once in a lifetime experience that I can’t recommend highly enough.

Just got home from 2 weeks in Tanzania with our best friends and all our kids (a group of 11 of us) and had the most magical time! We stayed at Taasa Lodge for 5 days and 4 nights on the back end of our trip after seeing Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. Everything about Taasa Lodge is amazing. From the great staff, the open-sided safari vehicles, the beautiful lodge and tents - it's an experience like nothing else. Being able to drive right up to the animals on the private game reserve brings the whole game drive experience to a new level, and the guides and spotters were amazing to both us and our kids (ranging from 8-16 years old). The visit to the Masai village and school was so educational and fun! Truly, if you are going to Tanzania, but sure you plan 3 or more days at Taasa Lodge to get an experience you talk about the whole way home.

From the staff singing to us upon arrival to the hugs upon departure, our stay at Taasa was the best travel experience we have had. The staff tends to every single detail from the morning wake up calls with hot cocoa and coffee to the most delicious meals and drinks - anytime! Some of our most favorite things included the sundowner happy hours, the Boma dinner under the African stars (and the loo with a view!) and the morning breakfast in the private concession. And then there is the safari!! Taasa truly has the best guides and trackers and we saw everything we wanted to see - REALLY REALLY close up. Being on the private concession allows for a real safari experience unlike any other. We loved Melau, Sekato, Erick and Bonifas. We also had the chance to visit the Maasai village and school and it was a life-changing experience. Probably our favorite day. Back to the staff. Wilson was our butler and was so sweet and quick, and Kezia always had a smile on her face - singing, dancing and serving. We had tears in our eyes when we said goodbye to everyone at Taasa - friends for a lifetime! Do not miss the chance to stay at Taasa. We hope to visit again some day and are already looking forward to it!

This is a amazing place to stay while in Tanzania, the lodge is a experience it’s self. The staff was the hardest working, kindest people ever. They will help you whenever you need and will do it with a smile on their face. The lodge is always clean and safe even with being in the wildlife. The guides and trackers are the best in all of Africa, the guide we had was the funniest and nicest guy I’ve met, and the tracker would spot animals from distances away I couldn’t even see. The wildlife you will see in such a short period of time is mind blowing because of how good the guides and trackers. Also I love how much you do in such a short amount of time, we where there for 4 days and saw all of the big 5 and much more. The night game drives are a experience in its own. The only thing I would change is the menu, it was very unique, some were good but some were not. I think if they added some options instead of a set meal that cauldnt be changed. In all this is a beautiful place to stay with a breathtaking view and some of the best people and experiences in Tanzania. I would 100% recommend Taasa Lodge to everyone.

Thank you so much for coming to visit us at TAASA Lodge! Next time, you'll have to play one of my favorite games - challenging a tracker to an animal sighting competition (they win every time!). Furthermore, thank you for your feedback on the menu, we will relay the information to our Heart of the House!
