Paid full price, didnt get water or electricity or internet. Tents were in severe disrepair so they gave us room full of insects. Staff did their best but were not informed of our visit. Management took my money and didnt provide any discount for the lack of facilities.

Unfortunately our safari experience was extremely bad, and even dangerous. Even though the (expensive) trip was paid for weeks in advance, the manager had not arranged anything beforehand - no vehicles, no drivers, no entry permits. He improvised, and so we had to wait hours every day to enter the park: for his friends to arrive to drive us, and for permits to be released. Early morning safaris are the prettiest, but there hasn't been a single day we could enter the park before 10am. The vehicles were so bad each time that we had 3 car breakdowns in total. One day we had to get out of the park on foot. On our way back to Arusha we had to hitchhike (!) during the night, after being stuck in Serengeti with a broken car for hours. We were extremely lucky to find our way back to Arusha safely. The manager we booked the trip with was nowhere to be seen during our stay, and could not be reached. The managers present in the camp were sorry for us, but could not offer us anything as compensation. After our continued insisting, they agreed with a refund of USD 400 - less than 10% of the total amount. Until today, 2 months later, they have still not transferred this money, though one of the new managers is telling me every day he is 'working on it'. It's a huge shame. This is only a short summary of the events during our stay at Mapito, unfortunately the complete list of what went wrong is much longer. Worst customer service ever experienced. Please don't book your Serengeti safari through Mapito.

The food and service was top tier. The open air bathroom/shower is so cool too! The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because the water didn’t work for a day. Also, hyenas and elephants were heard at night outside the tent. Awesome for us, but some may not like that.

Very friendly staff, Timothy is awsome, you have a problem, he fixes it or will die trying. We ordered gluten free food for our daughter and it was no problem what so ever, the chef had absolute control over the situation and we didn´t worry one bit. In fact our daughter could eat everything served, fantastic. One problem they have is the road to the camp. You need a 4x4 to even consider going there in rainy season. There is black cotton soil on one stretch and it´s no joke, but if your hardcore like me, that´s one of the reasons you go back :), some proper 4x4 driving is hopefully awaiting you. If you get stuck, don´t worry, Timothy will come to the resque, just make sure you have a phone. I will definitly go back to see the migration go through the camp and just stay there for a week and not worrying about Serengeti. It can be a bit tricky to find the location so make sure you know where to go before departure. And more importantly, let Timothy know you are coming and at what time you expect to arrive. Can´t wait to go back. Hope to see you soon Timothy.

It was an incredible 3 days at Mapito tented camp. The tents are clean, service is great, food is yum, and the staff is very warm. The location is safe and perfect, we got to see herd of wildebeest on our walking safari near the camp as it is located along the path of the migration. The surroundings of the lodge gives you a great sense of being in the midst of nature, with the sounds of wildlife at a distance. The whole experience of our stay was very pleasant. They took extra care to make our stay special, unique, provided a great guide (Heriel) for the game drives that was set up by Mapito. The owner Calvin Gibson was wonderful!
