We stayed two nights at the Beachcomber to relax after long flights before heading off on safari.
One point of note : the standard airport taxi rate is 50 US dollars, the hotel did offer me an airport pick up of 35 dollars. I discovered there's no negotiation at the airport!
The hotel has so much going for it. Room, bathroom, shower are all excellent. Lovely balcony on every room. TV kettle, bottles of water, it's top class.
There's a great pool and you can wander down to the beach too from the pool. We were there are the weekend and there were some swimming lessons and a birthday party poolside. The pool is quite large for a hotel.
Food is lovely, great selection in the restaurant and very tasty.
However, unfortunately, hospitality is zero!
The pool and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful but front of house was non existent. It's such a pity as this hotel is so ideal for a recharge after flights or safari or if a person doesn't have enough time to go to Zanzibar.
When we arrived we weren't told anything about the hotel, we just signed a firm and were led up to our room. I didn't know if they had found my online booking or what I would be charged.
When I enquired at the reception about bus tickets I was met with complete disinterest and the receptionist used my cell phone to call the bus station! She then tried to convince me to use her taxi friend instead for 200 dollars and could offer me no alternative. There were no brochures or flyers of excursions or activities in the area and she really wanted to go back chatting to her friend whose conversation I had interrupted.
We did meet a helpful receptionist on the 2nd evening who booked a bajaji for us and arranged that breakfast would be ready for us for 7 the next morning.
The Beachcomber has such potential and could attract so many international travellers, unfortunately the total lack of interest at front of house is a turn off.

I did love the location of the hotel at the beach. The rooms are very cozy with nice decorations. First we got a room at the poolside which we changed for a room at the backside because we wanted a quiet room. Later that day we were glad we did because it can be rather noisy at the poolside, as we found out later on.

We loved the food in the restaurant, the big pool and small but nice beach. Because there were not that many guests we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere around the pool and on the beach. We really thought this place was perfect for the money you pay until Friday afternoon. All of a sudden many, many children appeared for their swimming lessons in "our" pool! From paradise we landed in a public swimming pool.

The noise was so overwhelming we could hardly speak to each other. At the end of the day all children disappeared and paradise came back. We thought we were lucky it should be Saturday the next day, so no school day and no swimming lessons. But it even got worse: on Saturday two big sound boxes of 2 m by 1 m appeared on the beach producing loud music all day. And we were in a public swimming pool again because people from all over Dar es Salaam came to the hotel to enjoy their day around the pool.

It is such a pity: the hotel could really be a small paradise. I personally think the owner should make a choice: or you have a hotel or you have a public swimming pool. You can't do both.

My Tanzanian partner and I (having lived here two years) understand the expectations of accommodations in TZ.
Both being in the tourism industry we have a bit of a critical eye, but honestly we weren't overly or underly impressed. We would probably only recommend for clients on a budget. It's unfortunate as this property has a lot of potential if they made a little more effort. It's in desperate need of some refreshing including the 25+year old bathrooms. The staff were friendly enough except when reception will overcharge you by about $50 for a taxi, and aren't available to let you in past 12:00 at night, so you basically have to jump the fence if the Eskari isn't around, but don't worry, since they don't even secure the room keys and actually leave them out on a shelf in reception, you (and anyone else) has access to your room.

The food was average, we stayed 4 days and they never bothered to change the buffet once. It's on the beach and has a decent pool. For $50 a night it's not a bad deal and still worth it considering the price point of other properties in the area, but if you are looking for something a bit more comfortable it may be worth the upgrade.

Went to this hotel to stay overnight in Dar es Salaam for a flight the next day. It was a good standard hotel, nice swimming pool and close to the ocean. The room was nice with air conditioning, a tv and even a little water boiler for a welcoming cup of coffee or tea. The food was also very nice with a big menu and great vegetarian options! I would come back again anytime.

This resort is located on a road which has multiple resorts in line and hence faces tough competition.

I have spent a day at this place for relaxing on the beach and to enjoy their swimming pool. I have not seen how their rooms are like.
The setting on the beach front was beautiful and extremely clean.
The music was a total turn-off and was just not matching the mood. They played Punjabi music for half the day although I did not notice any Punjabi people around. When we requested to change the music to Bollywood (me being a typical Indian) the DJ refused to have any such music. Half an hour later he finds 5 bollywood songs on someone else's request and plays them on a loop for the rest of the day.

They have a nice but small swimming pool which got super crowded by mid day.

Food was absolutely average. Based on their pricing, it's ok for a one-time visit.

Dear Valued Guest, We thank you for your honest opinion on our facilities and services. We regret the unfortunate incident about the choice of the music. This will be investigated. We however have the largest pool along the Jangwani Beach, am not sure if your comments reflected on our hotel or a mix-up of the neighbouring Jangwani Beach, so is the music. However, we appreciate your honesty and will improve on the short comings.

After a long day of driving we were desperately in need of a quiet place where we could spend one night and a full day before our flight back home. We did not have a prior booking so we just decided to check out two other hotels along this stretch of beach on the northern side of Dar, which were recommended in our tourist guides. Upon arrival at the Jangwani resort there was a big party going on. The receptionist who showed us one of their rooms which according to her would be far away enough from the noise to provide for a good night's sleep eventually agreed with us that there would be no escape from this within at least a mile or so from their resort. She was kind enough to suggest the Beachcomber hotel to us, which is located about 3 km further North.

This hotel appeared to be the perfect choice. Nice and quiet rooms, very attentive staff and a wonderful stretch of private white beach with palm trees. Because we had a late evening flight we spent the entire following day just relaxing on the beach and in the hotel's swimming pool.

Based on our experience crossing Dar the previous day, we scheduled 2 hours to get from the hotel to the airport, which was just about right.. Traffic is terrible, even past 7 pm at night.

This hotel is located directly on Kunduchi beach on the north of Dar es Salaam. Area of the hotel is big and very nice with swimming pool and restaurants. We had a corner room with the living room and bedroom, big apartment with two balconies with view on the beach and swimming pool. The room was clean, bed was comfortable with mosquito net. Receptionists are kind, offered us welcome drink after arrival. The manager of the hotel is very helpful and professional, help us organized the boat trip for our group to next tropical island with white sand. It was better to relax and swim there than in hotel beach. The restaurant offer many different dishes, all are very tasty. The restaurant is situated on the open terrace with a good atmosphere. The breakfast are variable and good, just girls from the staff are a little bit lazy and slow and do not smile a lot. In comparison with other hotel on Kunduchi beach which we already tried (Jangwani See Breeze resort), the service and facilieties are better and the price is more reasonable, I recommend it more.

The hotel is located about 25 km from the airport and takes about 1 hour or so. It is right on the beach facing two islands in the Indian Ocean. Decor is a little dated, but the room was very comfortable, clean, frig and balcony. Room also had coffee tea service. The rate included breakfast and the wifi was good. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a late flight and asked about late checkout and they were able to accomodate. The pool was really nice and they also had cabanas on the beach front for use. A really nice visit.
