We stayed here for 2 nights to relax before our flight home after a safari holiday. As a result of flight cancellations and delays our plans changed several times but Gordon, the proprietor of this little hotel, couldn't have been more accommodating and he changed our booking every time without a problem or any penalty. The room was plainly furnished but spotlessly clean and had everything we needed, including effective air conditioning. There was a lovely garden to relax in and a decent sized pool. Breakfast was included and was the usual fresh fruit, cereals and eggs, bacon etc cooked to order. The evening meal was a highlight of our stay and after the fabulous crab pate and lobster thermidor that we had on the first night we decided not to bother eating anywhere else. But a word of warning - we ordered a lobster thermidor each and it was far too much. The chef kindly served the leftover lobster cold with a salad for our starter the next day. There was a decent wine list and the prices were probably average by European standards but a little on the high side for Africa. All the staff were professional and friendly and went out of their way to make us welcome, none more so than Gordon himself. Not only did he organise transport to and from the airport and to take us around the local area, but he paid the taxis himself and accepted our credit card payment for reimbursement. He was incredibly laid back and genuinely seems to live by the Swahili saying "hakuna mutata".

Booked a table for valentines lunch with my wife and we turned out to be the only customers. The restaurant was expecting a large crowd for dinner. We had steak and see food and both were reasonably good. We liked the chic rustic decor of the restaurant. The staff was courteous and the owner Alexander equally hospitable. Parking space is limited. Even as the only car we still had to squeeze into the compound. Overall I would recomend it.

Safe and secure space with great service. Highlights were the amazing service and fantastic breakfast. Breakfast was from 7am to 10am featuring fresh fruit, excellent coffee, eggs to order, toast, jams, sausages, bacon, granola and yogurt. The room was well appointed with large bedroom, walk-in shower and great air-conditioning. Whenever I needed a taxi it was organised for me, including negotiating the rate and putting the payment onto my room charge, Amazingly helpful!! Thank you for a fantastic stay!!

This hotel is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. The food at the restaurant is delicious with lots of choices. Gordon, the owner of hotel, is a very gracious host. He went out of his way to make us feel comfortable on our first day in Tanzania, and during our entire stay in Dar es Salaam. Gordon arranged for a guide to drive us and help us explore Dar es Salaam on our second day. It was nice to have the pool so we could cool off after a morning of sight-seeing. When we left the hotel to continue our travels in Tanzania, we forgot to retrieve a large sum of cash we had put in the safe. We realized after our flight had arrived in northern Tanzania, and we promptly contacted Gordon. He found the cash in the safe and was very helpful in researching a way to refund the same cash amount on our credit card. He had to install special software in order to process the refund, and went out of his way to solve our mistake and ease our concerns. We praise his honesty, his resourcefulness, and his positive attitude in reassuring us that our mistake could be rectified. We can't thank him enough. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and found it very restful after our long international flight. Since it is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, one cannot walk to explore the city of Dar es Salaam. One must hire transportation to go to nearby restaurants or shopping areas.

My family (parents, wife, sons 11 and 12) recently stayed at Alexander's during a trip I planned for my parents' 50th Anniversary. Although I arranged everything else, my mother wanted to pick the Dar hotel and she couldn't have made a better choice. I arranged everything with Gordon Alexander, the owner, in a couple emails. We had 2 groups arriving and leaving at different times with a 6 day safari in the middle. Gordon handled everything with the greatest attention to detail, including flexible breakfast hours, our left luggage back in the proper rooms after safari (didn't have to collect it from reception), fruit plates on late arrival, transportation to/from the airport and within Dar, late checkout, etc., etc. The staff were all quite friendly and helpful and the food was amazing, especially the grilled tuna. Having lived in Dar 12 years ago, it was a real pleasure to talk to Gordon about everything Tanzanian. He really made us feel at home. The rooms are spacious and simply decorated in a style somewhere between Zanzibar and safari. The best part of our afternoons was the time we spent in and around the pool, which felt more like a jungle river and was a welcome respite from the heat of the day. If you want excellent, unobtrusive service, a quiet central location, excellent food, and comfortable rooms, Alexander's is the place for you.
