Detailed Reviews
The other review describing the current owners and the apartments are all right on. We arrive about 6:25 on bike, about 25 minutes past closing time, and they waited for us to arrive, with a friendly greeting. The windows are all screwed shut, making for a very stuffy small bedroom and a less than great night of sleep. While we had pleasant spring weather, I'm not sure what these rooms would be like in hot/cold weather with a heater and one end of the main living area and a small window A/C unit at the opposite end, and no bedroom ventilation. The store pretty much anything you would want out in this remote area, including a basic food menu including tasty breakfast sandwiches. Reservations are by phone call.

New owners, who are very nice. Please don’t be scared off by reviews referencing the old owner. Rooms are dated, but clean. Queen beds are new and comfy. No vents in the kitchen. Squeaky floors—glad we didn’t stay downstairs. Charge is by the person. No recycling.

The “rooms” are actually apartments with 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen and living room, and they are priced by the number of people staying. Beds were new and comfortable and everything was clean but dated. Boot dryers are supplied in the room on a rubber mat, and there is also a rack for drying wet clothing. There is a small store on site so you can buy and cook food, or you can eat fast food at their restaurant. There is a guest laundry on site. There are also pay showers if you are just passing through. Breakfast was not included but is available at the store/cafe for a very reasonable price. The staff is super friendly and helpful!

The ABSOLUTE, worst hotel (if you can call it that) I’ve ever stayed at in my life!! Absolutely no attempt to make it in any way, appealing the floors, the woodwork ,furniture, kitchen ….the old towel hanging over the window, windows that are painted shut!! Deplorable!! And they had the nerve to charge you $15-5% if you paid with a credit card! $210.00

I would avoid this motel. The new owner of this place is a DRAMA QUEEN. He drinks like a fish and will yell at you on the top of his lungs. The motel is a death trap. If there was ever a fire, there is only one way to get out because
ALL the windows are nailed shut. This motel is shady.

Staying in this motel was like staying at Grandma’s house...dated, but oh so welcoming. Accommodations are spotless and spacious. The owners and employees treat their guests as family. We arrived shortly before the store was to stop serving food, but they graciously allowed us to order anything from the menu. They hand pat the burgers themselves and they are delicious.
This motel and store/restaurant was a great find after a long day of travel. Would definitely stay there again.

no longer owned by the big bully previously mentioned! new owners Pete and Lori have completley turned the town around. All the rooms have new furnishings and big screen TV's and internet. VERY VERY FRIENDLY people! Avery is very busy town with fishing and ATV's and snowmobiling all because of Pete and Lori now owning the store and motel.

What a teat it was to find Laurie and Pete! Scrumptious Pizza, Cheese Bread, and incredible fried chicken! We had a super time with the whole Family... right in the middle of nowhere... you have to visit Avery, Idaho!!! It's just a fun 4-wheel drive over "Moon Pass" from Kellogg proper... Worth the trip for FUN AND FOOD!

THIS IS A MUST READ!
My wife, children and I stopped at Scheffy's on Labor Day 9-3-18. As I entered the store behind my family, a nice patron stopped me to inquire about my vehicle. While responding, a man walked beside me and shoved me aggressively out of his way and yelled at me. I genuinely was confused at his aggression and was appalled to learn that this was actually the owner, Ben. When I responded to Ben with my shock in his abrasive physical and verbal approach, he threatened to beat me up, and then threatened to shoot me in front of my 12 and 14-yr old boys and wife if I didn't leave. All of this occurred with multiple patrons and employees inside the store. I considered pressing charges and quickly realized I had no cell service and the sheriff was at least an hour away. I would deem this establishment to be a danger to anyone who crossed this man. I believe he, in fact, would have brandished a weapon if I would not have immediately removed my family from the premises. To say the least, I would recommend staying away from this store.
