I visited Puerto Barrios and was pleasantly surprised by the reception and personnel at this hotel...l totally enjoyed this property with rather helpful people abd a basic breakfast daily...l stayed 3 nights and l felt secure
Pleasant hotel located in the quieter part of not really appealing town. Very nice courtyard The room that we had was not the one I seemed to have booked but it was clean and had a good wifi and aircon. There was quite a lot of noise coming from the generator that was located just outside of our window which made you feel as if someone was trying to load a truck and left the engine on. I was quite surprised to see the lack of basic toiletries in the bathroom given the 4-star status as we got this in other places in Guatemala of lower rating. Maybe it was forgotten by the cleaning staff ... Very good breakfast included in the price. There is also a restaurant with a good selection of various dishes for your evening meal. The serving staff was excellent and attentive, made me feel like at home. Staff at reception were great too and helped to locate a very friendly lady who was able to speak English when we struggled with our Spanish.…
This hotel is a clean and safe hotel with an open air courtyard and good restaurant on the premises. The service was always helpful and accommodating. While Puerto Barrios is not a very tourist friendly location, the Hotel is in an area that is quiet and relatively safe.
If you want, cheap, fast and close to the downtown, than this is it. Puto barrios in itself is not a touristy town, kinda dusty and riddled with bars and dock workers. If you are looking for a good drunken scrap in a bar than this little town can accomodate you. Not very family friendly.
Hotel El Reformador was just ok, I had a spacey room with Air Con which couldn't be really adjusted and it was a bit too cold for me. The place is clean and in the part of the town which is a few blocks from the dusty centre (which is good). I paid 145 Q per single per night (it was actually a double bed), and make sure you know the approximate price before you enter as the staff might their have their own idea about the prices. The receptionist was actuallt a bit funny, I asked for the nearest motorbike hire - he told there are none in the town, but he offered his own smashed scooter for the hefty 60 USD per day which is twice as much as the proper car, so I refused with smile. The food in their restaurant was pretty bad, not to speak about the salad which I got served in the form of the flavourless cooked vegetables without a trace of anything fresh.…
My friend and I spend a night there because we had no other option (we missed the last boat for livingston) so we booked the best room at this hotel, which is a double bed room with a bathroom, tv and A/C. We arrive there, they charge us 300 quetzales (60$). When I called earlier to reserve, they said it was only 210Q (40$). So the room is a 3 meters by 3 meters room. They tried to fit 2 single beds in it, and they put a fan on the table (what they call a/c...). The shower is full of hair and soap, same for the sink. The food at the restaurant is the same as the room, gross and expensive. I dont recommand this place.
