#1 of 8 in Livingston
La Casa Rosada has been Livingston's favorite for 50 years. Our family is a great mix of locals and international travelers, some of which have been with us since the start while others have brought new energy. We are located on the river side at just a few minutes walk from the main dock and main street. A beautiful old Caribbean house set right on the water side, with fantastic views of the bay. Our light and spacious dorm is on the second floor of the building with ocean view and ocean breeze. Our bungalows are built around the tropical garden surrounding the main building. Our attractive restaurant is known for its great, local selection of fresh seafood, as well as international and vegetarian options. Our bar offers the best coffee in town, fresh home-made smoothies, ice cold beers and a selection of cocktails. We often have live Garifuna music to give you a taste of this amazing culture that is so different from the rest of Guatemala. Our place is fantastic to relax and enjoy amazing views, either in one of the open air lounges, or in one of the hammocks on our private dock. You can grab a book from our exchange, a game to play with friends or a tube to relax in the water. If you feel more adventurous you can book a tour with us to any of the local attractions such as beaches and waterfalls, or rent a jet-ski, kayak, canoe or paddle board (50% discount for our guests!) to explore the beautiful area on your own. We have free WiFi and a travel and tour desk and are happy to help you enjoy this amazing place as well as help you with your onward travel. We're looking forward to meeting you!

Amazing hotel, we had a beautiful 2 bed bungalow for £11 a night. Food is great and staff are lovely. Cute family vibes. Highly recommend the Tapado for Q100. Only minor issue is the poor wifi. Not everyone goes to Livingston but they absolutely should! Stay here!

It's been four or five nights at the Casa Rosada; what a great place to let go and simply be. Awesome environment, and Ishmael, the owner, took great care of us. This is definitely the place to hang out.

We stayed in Casa Rosada in the suite, for a week with our three kids. The suite has its own bathroom with shower. It is a simple but very comfortable room. We loved all about our stay: the food is spectacular, great breakfast with excellent coffee, superbe dinners - we had grilled fish, langoustines, shrimps, amazing brownies. What we appreciated the most was the friendliness of the staff and the unique owner Ismael. He prepared a program for us each day, gave us all the explanations, advised us, organized everything and had always a smile a story to tell. He is creating such a family atmosphere and is the soul of this place. On his advice and his organisation we went to the Tenamit Maya zip line (soooooo much recommended), to three different beaches, our kids had tambour courses, we went to the 7 altars waterfall and had a wonderful 2h beach walk. We just want to go back!

So this is a strange review to write. Because aside from one problem, it was a really nice place. The dorm building has a lot of character - it's an old wooden open concept room with some beds facing the ocean. The property has lots of hangout space and a great dock with hammocks. The staff seemed very helpful and the location was appealing. But I did get hit with bed bugs in the dorm. I've traveled a fair bit and slept with a mosquito net (provided) and it was definitely bed bugs. I switched beds to the other end of the dorm for my second night and was chewed on again. Staff handled it well enough and were nice and apologetic about it and promised to see that it was dealt with. Thing is the whole building is wooden, the bed frames are wooden...you get where I'm going with this. If you're sensitive to bed bugs stay away cause the dorm at least has got em. Only other negative would be the relative cost of items at the hostel - food, drink, water refills. It's a common problem in hostels trying to make a buck but the prices are bad for Livingston or Guatemala in general. Cheers

Too bad you gave us such a bad rating to try to bring down our family business. About the bugs, unfortunately, we didn't get to see your bites so can't say if they are indeed what you say they are. Many people get bitten by sand flies on the beach and they start itching hours, if not days, after you get bitten. Mosquitos and bed bugs are not the only things that bite.. All we know is that guests before and after you have not encountered any problems. Only you in both beds you slept in on opposite sides of the room??. If it turns out that they are indeed what you say, I would definitely wash all of your belongings in hot water, because it appears that they are traveling with you. Just saying. About the prices; Our dinner prices are slightly higher than in other hostels, but then those hostels don't serve a three-course meal with options for lobster, jumbo shrimp, tapado, filet mignon.... You can find many super cheap local food options within steps of the hostel. Our drink prices are lower than any other hotel or restaurant in town. Of course you can get cheaper beer in a cantina, but that's about it, and our water refills? They're free.... Again, very sad that you feel the need to do this to us, but we're happy that at least all of our other guests enjoy their stay with us very much, also in the loft :) Happy travels

This is a wonderful hostel, not a fancy hotel but well priced for Livingston with a wonderful ambience. Clean and easy to live in. Great coffee. Gorgeous painted furniture and all kinds of extras, swigs, hammocks. The owner, Ismael, creates a wonderful and friendly atmosphere, truly enjoys his guests, arranges transportation everywhere right to and from the hotel. We had a wonderful time!
