Hands down BEST eco lodge you can wish for in Rio Dulce. Never seen such a customer service in my life. I lost my phone on the way there and they did everything to get it back to me and they managed. From dealing with corrupt shuttle drivers to picking up the phone for me because they said no one messes with their customers. Ive been blown away by their levels of service, thank you Gaby!!! (On top of this the place is gorgeous, amazing chef and food, great staff and the best tours, we will be back!!)
Nice relaxing place to spend a few days. Not exactly the deepest, darkest jungle but kayaking up the little tributaries is nice and Jorge is a decent guide for a night walk in the jungle. The food is good considering the location and the staff are caring and very helpful.
The place and the jungle is magnificent, the staff friendly and the food was delicious. Drinks are reasonably priced. The bungalows have variable qualities and amenities. Some are better, some are worse. Ours was among the worse ones. The bungalows need a thorough refurbishment and more importantly, some thought and attention. The lights in the room were very weak (only the bathroom had proper lights), the constant dampness can be irritating. The bedsheets were soggy too and probably not changed after previous guest. They looked pretty much unclean. There isn't even a fan in the room which was a disappointment. There is no hot water, OK, I can live with that. But there were two mornings (out of 3) when there wasn't even water in the bungalow. When I notified the staff I didn't get a promise to look into the matter. Water came back later on but still. Turned out the storm during the night made the water pipes came apart... This could be a wonderful place with really decent bungalows but the existing hospitality is overshadowed by the lack of attention towards the overall standards of the bungalows.…
Previous guests decided to extend their stay, so rather than tell them no, the hotel told us our reservations were cancelled. This was 11am on New Year's Day, leaving our family with no options, mid-trip. When challenged, the hotel just said "well, it's high season, and things happen." Don't count on them honoring a Booking.com reservation.
This is the second time staying at Finca Tatin. Our first time was just my husband and myself for an anniversary. We loved it so much that we went back with all our 11 children. We did the Rio Lampara Waterfall and swam and kayaked in the river. The highlight was putting the little extra money and making the trip with Finca Tatin to snorkel in Belice. We loved it so much we hope to go again soon! We washed our clothes in the pila in the middle of the jungle.... pretty cool.
Stayed there two weeks instead of the initial couple of days planner, need i say more? The finca tatin is a pièce of quiet paradise by the river, everybody in the staff friendly and helpful, making you feel part of the family :) I'll miss you guys and the Rio Tatin !
Overall, it was a great place to stay because we had two bungalows that were both located on the shore of the river. Moreover, we got an opportunity to swim right beside where our balcony was, then there was also a rope as well as a swing. The sauna and the boat tours were awesome. However, I think that would be better if they could provide hot water while using showers because the water was very cold. Also, we've found a few holes when we went inside the rooms and I do think they sould be fixed. That would be important if they could accept visa or debit card and people should get the wifi.
Beautiful place, hidden in the jungle, by a beautiful river. Perfect place to chill and relax, within the hammocks or the river. We loved our 2 nights stay ! The only downside is that this is not the cheapest option, as the boat from Rio Dulce is Q125 one way, most basic double room is Q150 a night, and family dinner is Q50 per person. Still, I think it's worth it!!! just giving people all the info :)
we didnt stay long but had a great time at their cabins. The rio is super chill and the rooms where clean. The staff was nice and recommended us places to go visit and eat. You dont stay much at the hotel with such a beautiful river in front of you!
The owners purposely overbook all their rooms and dump guests with reservations in a nearby place that is also owned by them. We booked long time in advance but instead of a nice own cabin we were sent to another place, cramped in a noisy room above a kitchen, beneath a dorm. Not quite the tranquil place we booked.. When confronting the owners they just told us that’s the way they work to earn the most money. “It’s the clients problem really”. Admitted: they are honest about being unreliable.
