The resort is wonderful! The room was clean and had a great fan and AC. The resort itself was beautiful and unique. We are not birders but loved seeing the Toucan and Parrot on the property (only place in the country we saw any!). The property is stunning. Very safe place to stay. The homemade food prepared for us was delicious! Some of our favorite meals were here. The family was kind and went above and beyond to meet all of our needs including our accommodations, food, drinks, transportation, and arranging COVID tests prior to leaving. I would highly recommend staying here and I would happily come back!

We are not birders, nor are we “resort types”. Our preferred vacation is usually a tent in the woods and a one pot dinner on the Coleman stove. That having been said, let us offer our unreserved endorsement of Crystal Paradise Resort and the Tut Family. If you want birds, Eric Tut (the best birding guide in Belize) will skillfully find them for you in all sorts of places. In addition, Eric is knowledgeable about a host of other touring activities, archaeological, cultural, historical, geological and botanical. For our weeklong visit, we selected the Jungle Adventure Package, which featured a taste of everything Cayo District has to offer. We toured Caracol and Xunantunich, Mayan Ruins. Eric canoed us into Barton Creek Cave and maneuvered us on tubes through Cave Branch River cave. He took us to the Mennonite area of Spanish Lookout for birding in their forest reserve, showed us rice fields and stopped for ice cream at Western Dairies, a must visit. The side trips to Green Mountain Butterfly Farm and Belize Botanic Gardens were worth the additional expense. We were lucky enough to be there on Saturday to visit the San Ignacio Market Day, catching a ride to and from with Miguel’s taxi service, arranged by Carolina. The resort itself has clean and comfortable cabanas, equipped with air conditioning and ceiling fan. We often sat on the porch under the thatched roof in chairs or the hammock and observed iguanas and birds. Meals were prepared and served by Eric’s sister, Carolita. She is a talented cook and a warm and generous host. Our dietary preferences were met without any difficulty. Main courses of Belizean dishes were varied with plenty of fresh fruit, handmade tortillas, and small cups of refried beans. Situated on the deck surrounding the dining area were plenty of bird feeders.Among the species we saw were toucans, wood rails, brown jays, melodious blackbirds and, of course, hummingbirds. There is no pool at this time, but the river is a short walk down the hill to the clear and swimmable Macal River. The grounds are well landscaped and maintained. If you are lucky, Papa Victor Tut will drop by. He transformed his farm into the resort, building it with his family. Perhaps it was the time of year or the dry weather, but we had no issues with mosquitoes or other insects. In fact, there would have been more if we’d stayed home in West Virginia. In contrast to many others, Crystal Paradise Resort is very affordable and even will provide shuttle service to and from the airport. We were glad to have Eric to safely chauffeur us all around. We never would have been able to navigate the 2-hour, 50 mile trip to Caracol on our own. Laundry service is available for an additional fee. We’d love to go again. We highly recommend a stay at Crystal Paradise Resort. We were treated like family and felt like royalty. Contact Alba and make a reservation!

My husband and I had a fabulous stay at Crystal Paradise Resort, thanks to the hospitality and warmth of the Tut family. We stayed in a Valley View room and found the accommodations clean, comfortable, and relatively private. I enjoyed the hammock on our private deck. We woke up every morning to the birdsong all around our cabana! We did the five-day birding trip, even though we’re not really birders. However, my husband is a talented amateur outdoor photographer and our goal was to find great birds for him to photograph. Well, we came to the right place. Eric and Elvis, our guides, did an exceptional job of finding opportunities for just the kind of photos my husband wanted to take. Having a personal guide that was so knowledgeable and accommodating was invaluable! In addition, we got plenty of chances to view interesting birds from the viewing deck right off the dining area. We also enjoyed our fascinating trip to Xunantunich with Eric and a self-guided canoe trip down the river bordering the resort. All of the staff (most of whom were Tut family members) were friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. As many other reviewers have mentioned, staying here is like being part of the family. One example of the Tuts’ commitment to customer service: I left my prescription glasses (only a couple months old and quite expensive) on the bed when packing to leave the resort. When I realized what I’d done I contacted Alba Tut, who sprang into action and arranged for them to be brought back to the states by an American guest who then shipped them to me! It saved me hundreds of dollars on replacement glasses. We highly recommend Crystal Paradise to anyone wanting an authentic Belizean jungle stay with a lovely, gracious family!

Some vacations give you a post vacation high. Crystal Paradise Resort in the jungle of Belize did that for me. Our every need was met by the Tut family. Our party of four birders was met at the airport by Eric Tut in a large and comfortable bus that took us to the jungle resort. The food was great, Rooms were clean. A large deck with a comfortable hammock and chairs overlooked the resort's grounds and diverse wildlife. Every day of birding and archaeological study was unique and memorable. I was amazed with our guide Eric's keen eyes and ears, and how quickly he could spot a bird and get a telescope on them for us to enjoy. Had a great time and would highly recommend Crystal Paradise Resort.

The Tut family were terrific hosts for our small group (4) of US birders over the course of six days. Very clean and comfortable cabins, outstanding meals--three a day, including picnic fare for when weren't back for lunch or supper-- and immaculate grounds. 21 forested acres. The birding was intense but very enjoyable and rewarding. Special shout-out to our guide, Eric Tut, for having led us to 188 species. Carolita (b. Tut) made sure we were fell fed and Jeronie Tut handled our reservations and inquiries. A special saludos to Don Victor who has been leading the Resort since 1985. A well-run, family business. Try it. You won't regret it! Well done, Crystal Paradise Resort!

I just returned from the five night, six day birding package offered by Crystal Paradise and everything about it was outstanding. The resort is family owned and operated and the relaxed friendly atmosphere encouraged by owner Victor and his family made us felt like they were all old friends. Belizean style food was served for all three meals and it was outstanding, including the coffee which was always available. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the transportation services were superb (trust me -- do not try to rent a car and visit remote areas of Belize). I have used a number of birding guides on past trips and Eric, Victor's son, was the best guide I have ever experienced. He is one of the best birders in Belize and works tirelessly to patiently track snow and point out new birds for the checklist he provides and reviews with you each night. Each day we would bird new areas and habitats and in five days we identified 188 different species in the mountain and savannah habitats, including four Yucatan endemics, Scarlet McCaws and an evening of night birding for owls (three species) and nightjars, paraques, poorwills and potoos. Eric was totally into it and had a great personality and sense of humor. To top it off we birded an amazing Mayan ruins called Corocol and Eric is an expert in Mayan history. Bottom line -- a great trip and excellent value.

Placencia, Belize62 contributions12 helpful votes
I am the coordinator of a local adventure group based in Placencia, Belize... Looking for a reprieve away from the beach and into the jungle during the 4-day Easter holiday, I booked a stay for 17 of my participants at Crystal Paradise Resort back in February, based on a local special for rates they were promoting... Right from the start, I found communication was a big issue... Sending emails regarding information and updates to never receive an answer was a problem... Having to send messages via social media to ask them to check for emails was a constant... The local rates that were being promoted February became less expensive in March... When questioning if they would honor their new promotion for the group, I got told that the rates were for Belizeans only and that I was not Belizean... FYI: I am a legal permanent resident of the country... In being such, I am entitled to the same benefits as those that are natural born... I just let the argument go... Not worth the $20 BZD or so dollars per nite to bicker over... Upon booking, I myself requested a particular Valley View room... Upon check-in, I find that I have been assigned a different room number next to vacationers that were not part of my group... Carolita (the resort front person) informed me that part of my group had arrived before the rest of us and took it upon themselves to swap rooms... UNTRUE!!! After questioning my people, I found out that it was Carolita's idea to assign other than what was booked without even waiting for me to arrive and ask my permission!!! Fortunately, we worked this out amongst ourselves... The rest of the first day was without incident, thankfully... Day #2 was spent off-property with no issues until our arrival back at the property... Apparently their electrical system was not meant to carry a load for so many occupied rooms... Power went out twice within a half-hour period!!! The weather during our stay was HOT!!! 96 - 98 degrees daily, necessitating the need for air-conditioning... With the cooling units running in every room, ceiling fans running in every room, guests taking showers, people ironing their clothes or using a hair dryer caused overloads... Day #3: Easter Sunday and Theresa Tut's (matriarch of the family) birthday began with a blaring rendition of "Feliz Cumpleanos" at the family's home, located directly behind the cabanas we were staying in... Mind you this occurred at 6 am!!! While this did not affect me personally (I was already up and ready for the day), I had quite a few group members that were not amused... The resort staff knew we were going to be away, again, for the day and certainly could have waited to celebrate to their heart's content once we had departed (which they did!)... Day #4 was scheduled to be a canoeing day for the group... Departing from the river located below the resort, we were to make our way to a riverside restaurant downstream... This adventure was booked far in advance just after the initial accommodations booking... The staff was aware that our meal reservation was placed for noon time and that we would be departing via water at 11 AM... The morning of this scheduled excursion, I was informed by Carolita that check-out time was 10 AM and that at least 4 of the rooms had to be vacated by that time... They would make no exceptions, even tho this was previously arranged... Needless to say I cancelled the lunch reservation and canoeing adventure and let her know that we would all be out of her hair before 10 AM!!! The food ~ Every breakfast (included with our rooming rates) was outstanding!!! They make the best fresh-squeezed orange juice I have ever had in my life!!! That is the only thing positive I have to say about the meals there... Dietary restrictions were asked for and provided, but not accommodated for... Fish was served on the first evening, even tho it was noted that one guest could not eat fish or seafood... The offerings are basic and bland... Meats were overdone and dry... Pricing is ridiculous!!! A packed sandwich for hiking (two slices of store-bought wheat bread, one slice of ham, one slice of cheese and a layer of lettuce), corn chips and salsa and a 12-ounce soda will cost you $24 BZD!!! Dinner pricing is $38 BZD for the same kind of street food sold here throughout the country that you would pay $9 - $10 BZD for... To sum up our stay, I would say that Crystal Paradise expects their paying guests to conform to what is the most convenient for them, not the other way around and that whatever they feel is important to them comes before what is important to their guests... I found Carolita to be very attitudinal and unpleasant... She made me feel like she would rather we not be there (but take my money!!!)...The most personable of the family members is the patriarch, Mr. Victor Tut, who was around the common area at most times of the day to communicate with guests, share stories and get to know them!!! This place could be so much... Work on your communication skills, value your guests and have some drive towards positivity and betterment!!!

Crystal paradise was a lovely Belizean family-run business that served amazing food and had a deck where you could view all kinds of native birds. The grounds surrounding the resort are very beautiful and everyone who worked there was very kind and knowledgeable about the wildlife and activities near the resort. We can highly recommend this for families, we are a family of four with a 13 and 15 year old and the rooms had accommodations for up to 3 kids and 2 adults. Additionally the guide that they provided was very helpful and made our cave tubing experience very fun and safe.

I stayed at the Crystal Paradise for a week, with the goal of relaxing and bird watching. This is a family run business that has been running for many years. The staff were very attentive, the grounds are beautiful, and the food was great. The feeders are in constant use by the birds in the area, we saw 25 species in the grounds and many more on three day trips with a local bird guide. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. I would gladly go back.

Our stay at Crystal Paradise was great from start to finish. The Tut family was welcoming and took care of everything we needed. Clean rooms, excellent food, great service. Eric is an amazing guide and unbelievably knowledgeable about all things Belize. The ATM tour and Caracol ruins should not be missed. The bird life was amazing. Our had to please 14 year old loved I and they graciously accommodated my wife’s food allergies. All meals are authentic belizian dishes home cooked by the family. We hope to be back some day.
