While it was strange to have so few people at the lodge, the staff made it feel like home. We did a mini tour of the country and San Ignacio our first stop. They put us in a bungalow. The dining staff was great and treated us like family. The kinkajou that visited every night was a real bonus. The lodge had several other quests by the time we left, but we know they were in good hands. The lodge has several activities at it's location. We had a 4wd rental (highly recommended if you plan on venturing out) but the road out/in was pretty rough. We did several local things on our own. San Ignacio has numerous things to do and the area around has even more. But sitting on the porch of the bungalow was wonderful as well.
We stayed 4 nights at the lodge end of February beginning of March and our stay has been perfect from the beginning to the end. The lodge is in the heart of the jungle. We can hear all bunch of animals all day. We saw many different birds all over the property. In the morning, the staff gives fruits to the birds and we saw so many toucans and other kind of birds. The staff at the lodge is exceptional and very friendly. The food is delicious, but a bit pricey. It's very nice to be able to use the canoe for free. The private beach is perfect to hang out. The only negative point is the road to get to the hotel. It didn;t bother us because we had a 4 WD but it can be a struggle if you don't rent a 4WD, especially if it rains.
This past Thanksgiving, my husband and I decided to travel in Belize and this was after some major flooding had taken place. We decided to stay at Sweet Songs for a few nights while there and it was the best decision we could have made. We were treated with so much respect and the staff went out of their way to make us have the most enjoyable and safe time....from candlelight dinners under the stars to many activities. The office staff, dining staff, and the housekeeping staff went out of their way to make our stay fantastic and most memorable. We cannot say enough about the great time we had. The highlight of our stay there was the horseback riding with Ermino and Carlos and our horses Ginger and Camanche. We will definitely go again!!
We had a great stay at Sweet Songs. We stayed in the Garden House, which is just as pretty as the photos and sits away from the other accommodations on the property. We were impressed by the beautiful house, the fully stocked kitchen, the lodge grounds but above all by the hospitality of the Sweet Songs staff. They were wonderfully kind, helpful and accommodating. They even left us a gift for Christmas. Very sweet.
If you are looking for a jungle get away this is a great spot. You are definitely in the Belizean jungle. We stayed in the treehouse and it was really nice. We booked on booking.com and they didn’t have updated pictures. It was still a nice place either way thought. There is only WiFi in the restaurant and office so keep that in mind. All of the staff was very nice to us, especially the dinner staff. One of the days we needed a packed lunch for an excursion and they took care of us completely. It flooded a lot the week before we got there so the road to the lodge was incredibly rough. I imagine it is still difficult with a small car no matter what so keep that in mind. You are also far out there so it is much more effort to eat anywhere other than the lodge itself. Look out for tarantulas on the stairs going down to dinner at night. Harmless little fellas though just really cool to see them. …
