Cicadas and frogs soothing you to sleep. Amazing staff treating us like family. Homemade meals that made our mouths water, just by smelling them. The variety of food was like heaven in your mouth, the excellent directions were easy and accessible. Being greeted like family when we arrived, made us feel at home. Many stars lit up the sky, more than we've ever seen. The beautiful cows, and horses are just waiting to be greeted. Fresh squeezed juice every morning. Yummy papaya jam made us never want to leave. The sound of howler monkeys makes you feel adventurous. I have never stayed in a place like yours. I'm amazed Their staff made my husband and I feel very welcome and we will definitely be coming back! We loved Banana Bank.

We stayed at Banana Bank Resort on 3 different occasions this year. In my opinion this is a 5 star experience. There Horseback tours are second to non and the staff is courteous and attentive. The couple that owns and runs the place are kind and have an incredible story that they share. All occasions we stayed in a room (different each time) and it was always clean and we'll maintained. The building is older but is beautiful and charming. In addition to horseback riding, they have a beautiful swimming pool available. Caroline Carr is an amazing artist and has a gallery and museum that guests can visit.

I booked a 4 night stay inclusive of unlimited horseback riding, a private room and 3 meals/day but ended up checking out early after only two nights. I can only give it 2 stars based on the terrible accommodations, run down facilites, zero internet, and poor quality meals, however, I rate it 5 stars for the horses and guided horseback riding. DO NOT STAY HERE but I highly recommend this establishment for horseback riding day tours or riding lessons. I was very disappointed in the rundown appearance and extremely outdated accommodations. Basically all of their cabanas and rooms need to be torn down or completely gutted and rebuilt to make this a nice place to stay. Upon arrival and discovering how bad the lodging actually was, I decided to try to stick it out in order to experience the all day horseback riding I had planned and was looking forward to. My first room, a cabana, had HUGE holes in the screen which would allow anything from mosquitoes to snakes, spiders or rodents to enter the room. I pointed out this deficiency and switched to a different room but it had its own issues. Their horses are beautiful, well cared for and well trained but everything else about this property is absolutely unsatisfactory. I enjoyed a day of riding through the jungle trails with Minor, my guide, who was extremely kind. He shared many interesting things about the trees and plants we saw along the way. On day two, there was some kind of a large rodent running around in the pipes in my room bathroom and it was trying to get out and was heard scratching loudly in the room bathroom. I told the owner about it and he shrugged it off saying it was probably a rat but he did nothing to address the situation. Everything about staying at Banana Bank was creepy from the huge holes in the window screens, to the lack of internet or cell service in case of emergency, to the eccentric and overbearing owner who walked around with a pistol stowed in his front pocket and even pulled it out unexpectedly during a conversation, to the rodent infested building walls and total lack of cleanliness in food preparation. Again, the horses here are beautiful and the riding is good but DO NOT STAY HERE!

Our rooms were beautiful and unique. The beds were comfortable and clean. The family style meals allowed you to visit with guests from other places. From the fresh squeezed orange juice to the savory main dishes everything was tasty. The excursions we went on allowed us to talk to the locals and learn a lot more history than on an average bus tour. The horseback riding gave a daytime option and a night ride. The night ride was beautiful with the Howler monkeys serenading us, the stars twinkling in the night sky and the fireflies sparking like diamonds in the grass. Well worth the time and money. Great value for a memorable adventure. Each sightseeing trip was accomodating for handicapped and stoppping to get water souvenirs etc.

I'd like to say, in case the lodge impoves the condition of rooms(better bed and bathing equipment, a/c and more lights etc.), this place will be perfect. John is a very much energetic man and pride of his Maya collections, his jaguar, and his horses. We were so shocked by all these incredible beauties and hated why stay so short as we arranged this place as a overnight place only on the way to Cockscomb Basin and not expected so much actually. And the magic trees in the yard also attacted many species of birds including Rainbow-billed Toucan. All over the morning we just said"wow"... It just like a lost paradise or a secret garden, which I should visit again in case I visit Belize again.
