We just finished five incredible days there! I’ve been a member of Marriott for 21 years and have stayed at their properties in over 30 counties and Alaia is definitely one of their best! What really makes it great is the staff, every single person was there to address any need imaginable. The only thing I can think of that I’d like to change, better coffee!

We came to Belize for the first time. A beautiful resort yet unsure about the people and the place. Wow!! Blown away with the staff and them knowing our name and treating us so special. Anjela on the roof top deck making the best Mai Thai ever!!! Johan the server always checking on us was the best! Finding out what the dinner special was at the Deck. Lasagna with seafood had to try. Our Server Maria at the Deck was so good!!! Aleysi so sweet to fill our water glasses by the beach was perfect! I love this place!

This place is gorgeous! Staff is so friendly. We stayed at a Reef House, which provided very easy access to the dive shop on the pier. Loved diving with divemaster Joe and the Belize Pro Divers team here - amazing dives!! Food was delicious but pricey, and they could use more vegan-centric items and vegan protein replacement dishes and options. The main pool felt/looked like we were in Las Vegas in a chill way, but the rooftop view and pool was the icing on the cake! We thought we'd venture into town a lot but only went out once because it was so nice here. Lots of security and a whole large crew of men taking care of the Sargassum that would float in every day so it was not an issue. Our room was also just next door to a sailing rental place which the kids really enjoyed. We might have enjoyed more group activities and events, but I'm sure those are on pause due to covid.

Alright Alaia, your property is pretty and you’re new, so I’m going to give you some grace, but y’all have a lot of work to do. PROS The property is pretty and the vibe is swanky and upbeat (minus the weird elevator music playing all day. Let’s work on some better jams. Most people had their own Bluetooth speakers playing more upbeat music). The staff is incredibly friendly. Shout out to Matthew at the front desk for going above and beyond. Even offering to stop on his way into work to get me postcards! His level of commitment and hospitality is next level. We stayed at two separate places during our trip. The first reached out immediately upon booking (I should note we booked both places the same way), gave us all the necessary Covid information, even booked our flights from the main airport, picked us up at the San Pedro airport, and then dropped us off at the Marriott—all for free. Well, no actually they did charge us $3.00 US to pick us up from the airport in San Pedro. We NEVER heard from Alaia. FEEDBACK I’m going to break these down by different areas THE ROOM There are so many switches. Too many. We couldn’t find the fan light for like 30 minutes and the unnecessary motion light in the bathroom “area” went off 4 times a night at least. I couldn’t get up to get more water off the desk without it turning on. This brings me to the water. You charge for water in our room. Water. We were told not to drink the water from the tap, so after our two bottles of complimentary water were gone we had none. Two water bottles for a 4 day stay isn’t enough. Consider putting a jug that can be refilled by housekeeping in each room. This also helps reduce waste so it’s a win-win. The temperature was locked at 70 degrees or above. We couldn’t set it any lower. It also made 3 loud clicks when turning on and off each time and turned bright blue when turning on. In the middle of the night that bright blue light flicking on and off several times an hour plus the motion light and the "click, click, click" made for some long nights. I finally just set it to constantly run so I didn't have to listen to the clicking. Why is there no towel hook near the shower? Small problem, but walking across the bathroom soaking wet isn’t ideal. Also, it’s a beach and women need to shave their legs. Put a little spot for our feet so we can easily reach down and shave. You know how you all have a bench in your shower at home for this purpose? Women want one in their hotels. Have you ever tried to bend all the way to the ground to shave your legs in a rain shower with conditioner soaking in your hair? Yeah, not fun. The shower is very nice though! The island has a 10:00 curfew currently, so more time is spent in your room than normally would be on a vacation. The guide on the TV doesn’t match the channels. A small thing, not a big deal to us at all, but these little things matter with the price and expectation. However, giving us access to the fight on Saturday night was a nice touch! THE FOO We only ate at the property once and it was so bad we never did again. The Thai crunch salad had zero flavor. I have never ever sent something back and had our waitress come over earlier I would have. This was eaten at the Beach Bar. The Beach Bar dining area needs more sand under the chairs around the bar. I’m 5’9 with a 6’3 husband and my arms hurt because the chairs sat so low from the bar I had to lift them above my shoulders to eat. It was extremely uncomfortable. The person next to us, her head had to lay on the bar top the chair was so low. Why are the bar tabs opened by multiple staff members? For example, I went and had two beers at the bar around the pool. I went back to my lounge chair and then about 30 minutes later I went with my husband to the swim up area at the same bar and we had a beer each. We “closed” our tab, which means we tip and sign, but it was only for the beers had at the swim-up bar, not my previous beers because those were under a different server. I was chased down later by someone to close out the tab from the two beers at the same bar that I had 30 minutes earlier. Have you considered adding in an automatic gratuity for your staff so that we don’t have to be chased down and can just put things on our room tab as we go? The current process in place doesn’t seem great for the staff and was an annoyance for us. THE GOLF CART RENTAL I get it, you want people to stay on your property to eat. However, $80 USD a day for a cart is absurd, and only allowing 24 hour rentals is a disservice to the local establishments. We met a couple around the pool and after chatting with us they were so confused how we had eaten at so many places and mentioned the $80 rental was too much to rent it more than once, maybe twice. We said, well our last resort gave us a cart whenever we asked. You want one for dinner? “Great! Take a cart! Have fun!” Five days of various rentals, one being a full day, cost less than your 24-hour rental period and allowed us to eat all over and frequent the local places which will hopefully help the locals after a year of covid. We actually spent more money at the previous resort simply because of how convenient and easy everything was. Final note: It was fine, my husband liked it and you'll probably have a great stay--I just have different expectations when it comes to traveling and expected more.

Although this resort is just beginning to organize following COVID, it is the best option in San Pedro, Belize. The staff is amazing -- friendly, always helpful, remember your name and preferences, go out of their way to accommodate any requests. Some of the outstanding team members serving us were Mathew, Eric, Iden, Marleen, Shenelle, Elena, Johan and Angelina. The rooftop pool is amazing, the food is good and the drinks are excellent. You can schedule tours and rent a golf car directly at the resort which is very convenient. Really nice resort.
