The hotel complex is further outside of Tsumeb. Generally speaking, it is also a bit more remote. You drive through two gates before you reach the accommodation.
The area is huge and, despite the size, extremely well maintained.
The peace and quiet there was super pleasant. In the afternoon we sat on the veranda under a huge fig tree, played cards and had a direct view of the waterhole, where wild animals passed by and drank.
We were given a friendly welcome and shown around.
We were the only guests at the time, so we were able to enjoy dinner and breakfast alone. There was a 3-course menu and buffet. Both were delicious!
Our accommodation, or rather our chalet, was very clean and well maintained. We also had our own terrace and could park our car right in front of it.
The service and accommodation were excellent. We can definitely recommend it.

Magnificent lodge in a magnificent setting.
Magnificent and very high-end decoration. The lodges are a reflection of the entire property.
There are places designed to observe the animals that come to drink at the water point.
The food is excellent, plentiful and well presented.
Truly a haven of peace.

Advertised as a luxury lodge it is indeed stunning at first glance. But room lighting hopeless and my A/c not working so sleeping in 31C hopeless. Bottles of water (free) reeked of bleach!.
However, staff lovely and food ok - no vegetarian option as per usual in Namibia. Grounds stunning with free range turkeys and chickens. Just needs attention to detail.

Very stylisch and well equipped bungalows in a wonderful garden with old trees, The main house and restaurant shows an typical African atmosphere, the food is very good and nicely presented. The "lapa" overlooking the waterhole is the best place to enjoy a sundowner.

Stayed here for one night only. I was a little put off by the drive up to the hotel but when I got there I thought it was wonderful. The rooms are very comfortable and stylish, the gardens are lovely and the viewing deck excellent (although the orange light at the waterhole needs adjusting - it was right in your eye line when sitting). We really enjoyed our accommodation here and the meal was superb. Loved it!

La Rochelle could be defined a fraud. The images and descriptions on their web site don’t pitch reality. Game drive in their private reserve is scary because animals are very few and the ones which are in, are terrified by humans because this place is also a hunting spot.
No way to have spa services and also in the restaurant there is no choice: no menu, eat it or leave it. We had a very early departure and they supposed to prepare a fast breakfast with coffee, bread and cookies. No way to have nor a slice of bread. The breakfast they gave us to eat on the way were so bad that most of the food has been given away and replaced by new food we bought in a supermarket. This is unacceptable by a place that defined its self a luxury place. Shame on you for what you offer, the service you delivered and the animals you probably kill.

Response from Larochelle19, Manager at La Rochelle Lodge
Responded 20 Aug 2019
It was our pleasure to have you as our guests, and value your suggestions as we are always keen to continuously improve and develop our offerings. Herewith we would like to humbly advise you as follows: La Rochelle Lodge, known as La Rochelle Guest Farm, was a well-known Hunting Farm in previous years. In 2006 the property was bought by new owners and got a new face and was run as commercial and hunting farm; however in 2017 a 1,000 HA of the 10,000 HA farm was fenced off and now provides an unforgettable Bush experience with countless indigenous antelope species and bird life amidst majestic fig tree and lush gardens and fresh water springs. We hereby want to assure you, that only for counting and breeding purposes, animals are sometimes darted and is conducted in an ethical manner by a professional hunter in order to keep a balance in nature – especially in drought, avoid poaching which we currently have a big problem with but the police do currently assist us in this regard and to serve fresh meat to our guests as well as our own Namibian specialty; dry sausage and biltong. Children can now experience a bush safari from horseback to get up close and personal with nature or do the exciting target shooting while a variety of Spa treatments ensures a renewal of mind, body and spirit. The Spa therapist stays in Tsumeb and pre-booking are thus essential. La Rochelle Lodge boasts a large selection of accommodation and the restaurant prides itself of an intercontinental style of menu and a concise wine selection. Upon arrival of all guests, we do request dietary requirements and at the same time advise every one of the 3 course set menu. Then, after our tantalizing dessert, we politely advise all guests of the time for breakfast, whereupon we did offer your tour guide an early breakfast at 6am which he declined and thus recommended the breakfast pack (a delicious toasted sandwich, boiled egg, fruit and juice). We sincerely apologize that you did not enjoy our scrumptious breakfast; which is the most important meal of the day. And hereby cordially invite you to the hidden treasures like a picnic at the 30 degree natural springs, an afternoon high tea on the terrace, a bush dinner under African sky which will whisky you away and gives the opportunity of traditional and local culture. We look forward to your next visit to discover this luxury lodge, Nadia

Response from Larochelle19, General Manager at La Rochelle Lodge
Responded 25 Mar 2019
Good Morning ZoitzaP Thank you for your lovely review it was a pleasure hosting you at our establishment. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. Unfortunately there must have been a misunderstanding regarding the hunting. La Rochelle Lodge, then known as La Rochelle guest farm, use to be one of the best hunting farms in Namibia. The farm was sold about 8 years ago and the new owners changed the hunting farm to an Fully functioning Luxury Lodge only. Hunting was stopped immediately. Kind regards Nadia Haman

We arrived after a long delay at the airport which made us miss the gate time for etosha park. We booked La Rochelle last minute, after some initial confusion, we were welcomed in and looked after superbly by Jacqueline, Michael and their lovely staff. A beautiful, peaceful setting with a lovely deck to view the wildlife at the water hole and even a pet warthog! Highly recommend this beautiful oasis...

"Hidden" from the high way, La Rochelle is situated in the Namiibian bushveld. Beautiful manor house and lovely rooms/chalets. Very stylishly furnished. The viewing decks are very comfortable. Pity the watering hole could not be closer. The main house with huge volume is a treat. Our meals were also of best quality. Remember to book a game drive to view the farm and the wild animals. One of the waterholes has a secret! The staff were all very professional and friendly. Will be back! Thank you.
