My partner and I celebrated our birthdays with a staycation at the Kimpton Monaco. We were grateful for and impressed by the many ways that the team at the Monaco went above and beyond to help us celebrate our birthday in style.

We initially booked the Monaco’s Monte Carlo room, but after communicating to staff that we would be there to celebrate our birthdays - we were informed over text prior to arrival that we would be upgraded to one of their Mediterranean Suites on the 4th Floor. Classy move. The suite exudes luxury. The staff also made sure we were welcomed with birthday champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and cookies. Too sweet.

The hotel is in close proximity to many of DC’s best attractions and restaurants (Shout out to José Andres). We were able to walk to the nearby Boardwalk game bar for some fun and excitement prior to dinner. And then, we only had to walk one block to get to Jaleo, which was especially helpful on the way back after a pitcher of sangria.

We had an incredible time. Staff was excellent and responsive. Room was immaculate. Have not slept so good in a long time. Good to wake up after celebrating your birthday feeling as though you slept like a baby 👶 . Many thanks to Agatha, Ashley, Shay, Syndy, Timothy, and the rest of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco team.

My fiancé and I visited this lovely hotel just to have a quick weekend away. We stayed in the Mediterranean suite, and the team prepared it early, so we were able to check in an hour before regular check in. The valet parking is expensive (50 a day), but the valet was right in front of the building, friendly and quick. The lobby was beautiful and smelled wonderful. Free wine during happy hour was nice, and all the staff were very accommodating. When we first arrived with our dog we were offered a dog bed by two of the staff members. Very kind. The mini fridge in our room wasn’t working, but they quickly sent someone to try to fix it, and ultimately brought us a new one. The door between our bedroom and living room wouldn’t begin to fit in the door frame to close, and there weren’t nearly enough electrical outlets, but those are the only small issues we encountered. The bathroom has a large tub and separate shower. I was in love! The bed was comfortable, and you have a lions bust over you in the bedroom. Hotel may be haunted. All in all, a wonderful stay.

From the staff who greeted us at the front desk to the overall feel of the hotel, all my boyfriend and I felt was positive vibes. This hotel is in a great location, walking distance to excellent shopping, restaurants, and historical monuments. The outdoor seating area on the lobby floor level was really cool. They have a bunch of tables and couches set up and fire pits, tons of seating and again just an overall great vibe. The decor was really neat at this hotel, super wide hallways, beautiful rooms (we upgraded to a huge room that had a living room suite and master bedroom). Can’t speak highly enough about this hotel, we cant wait to go back and stay here. Big shout out to Mary who delivered our room service two days in a room. That chick rocks, such a positive person, so sweet and down to earth. I complimented the Bobby pin she was wearing and she took it out of her hair and stuck it in mine. I was stunned by her generosity and what a sweet gesture it was. Her and everyone else there had wonderful customer service skills, where making the customer happy was their main goal. Pam was also super accommodating too as we had a later check out and she stuck around two days in a row to clean our room. Stay here when booking your next hotel in DC, you wont regret it.

Spent 3 days in the hotel. Staff was very nice and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The afternoon happy hour was a nice perk and great way to unwind from a busy day and plan for the evening.

I would have given 4/5 stars but ADA access wasn’t great and I had a broken foot and required crutches and a knee scooter. There are around 12 steps to climb to enter the main lobby which was difficult. They had a handicap lift at a side entrance but that required a phone call to the front desk and an employee physically operating it. In addition, to get from the ADA compliant rooms to the front lobby required an elevator ride.

Not a huge deal for me on this trip but I would recommend staying at a hotel with better accommodations if I was in a wheel chair or on crutches.

Gnarking greetings from The Hotel Monaco Washington DC and thank you for your very nice comments re our staff and our complimentary afternoon Wine Hour. We are a National Historic Landmark, constructed between 1839 and 1865 as the original home of the United States Postal Service. And due to our building entry elevation we do have stairs into our lobby living room. I am glad our team was at the call to insure you were taken care of using our accessible elevator lift. And I do hope that you will return soon. Thank you.

Premiere Monte Carlo Guest Room is billed as a recently renovated room, which this did not seem to be. The overall appearance of the rooms and interiors is worn, except for suites. Be aware that items in the room provided by the hotel are at a premium, and not complimentary, and may be unmarked. The overall customer service was great, unless contesting a charge, in which it is insufficient.

Yesterday, my husband and I were with friends enjoying the Portrait Gallery and other sites of the city when we decided to pop into the Hotel Monaco for a glass of wine. The bar area was crowded, but we found a high top that was opening up and sat down.We asked the couple who were previously using the table if they had table service, or did we need to order our own drinks with the bartender. They told us they had table service. So, we waited for more than 15 minutes at a dirty table before we decide to clean it ourselves and then order from the bar. We each ordered one glass of wine; one Pinot Gris, one Cab and two Pinot Noir's. We sat and talked for about an hour. In that time, we were never tended to and never asked if we wanted anything else. We asked for the bill and when it came we were shocked to find that four glasses of wine came to $100! The two glasses of Pinot Noir were $28.00 each! We asked the bartender to see the bottle, surely it must have been expensive wine that we were served. The name of the Pinot Noir was Brooks, a name I wasn't familiar with. When we looked it up online, we were amazed to find that the retail price of that wine was ONLY $22.00 for the entire bottle . . . their wholesale price was a bit lower I assume. The other couple we were with are restaurant owners, so they are familiar with pricing and this was a case of gouging. They called the manager over, his name was Tim and called this to his attention. His comment . . . "Did you already pay the bill?" We responded "yes." His answer, "Well, there's nothing I can do about it." He could not have been any less concerned or interested.

We should have asked for a drink menu, it was our responsibility to ask first, but we would never have believed that four glasses of wine would cost $100.00. Aside from the price, the service was terrible, we had to clean up our own table and the staff were unfriendly and disinterested. There are plenty of other wonderful hotels in DC (We live here and dine often around town) so beware.

The Hotel Monaco is situated in an ideal location for maximizing your time in the District if you’re coming from out of town. I lived in DC for six years and had family from overseas that wanted to see the Capitol. The hotel is equidistance from the major monuments; close to countless museums; and a stone’s throw away from the Verizon Center if you want to catch a Capitols or Wizards game, or concert. We were able to walk everywhere and my family saw more in two days than most people do in a week. The rooms and hotel bar are great, second only to the accommodating staff. Five stars.

Like reviewer kautious05, we decided to take an overnight at Hotel Monaco to celebrate our anniversary. We experienced the same disappointment with the hotel that they did: outdated public areas, a small room not as nice as those at a Courtyard Marriott and tired looking bed linens. View of the toilet from the bed. No bottled water available in the room. No breakfast, just coffee at the desk. On the positive side, the staff was friendly, welcoming and helpful, coming up with a loaner USB cable for us. They also removed the annoying "amenity" fee on request when we checked out. Nice touch, thank you.

The building is historical and the location is great, close enough to most DC tourist attractions that walking most everywhere is an option. Across the street from the Capital Arena and the Gallery Place Metro.

In general, this area of DC still seems pretty quiet during the day with most people working from home; not much retail or restaurant activity.

Uncaring & uninterested staff and management. By far, the worst experience in a Kimpton hotel (or in any hotel for that matter).
The Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Washington DC was NOT able to fulfill/provide the service/offer that was advertised and purchased via Expedia.
The attendant at reception and concierge stated that “Breakfast for 2” was not available at the hotel. Unfortunately, the staff made absolutely no attempts to provide any solutions/options. Sadly, no assistance or solutions provided by their management neither, even after the Expedia customer service rep attempted to intervene.
Terrible experience during a recent stay Memorial Day weekend 2021.
Their website mentions availability of breakfast via room service from 7am to 11am but this also was, inexplicably, unavailable during my stay.
The only dining option was their ultra-expensive restaurant, the Dirty habit.
Unfortunately, the restaurant didn’t offer regular breakfast hours but only open for lunch/brunch and dinner.
Even though it was supposed to be open by 11 am, doors were still literally closed at the top of the hour when we went on Saturday, 5/29/21.
I’m extremely disappointed at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washing DC for the way the handled this situation and for the lack of involvement and empathy of their management to a loyal customer (I’ve stayed multiple times in 5 different Kimpton hotels over the last few years).
Please stay away from this hotel, especially if booking with companies like Expedia, Priceline, Kayak.
Plenty of Hotel options in DC.
Skip this one.
Unmotivated & uncaring staff and overall poor customer care “culture”.
Needs a complete revamping of staff and management and I doubt this will happen anytime soon.
Book elsewhere.

Monaco DC is an absolutely stunning hotel with elegant European vibes. Located a 4-minute walk from the National Archives and a 13-minute walk from the National Mall, this is the perfect location for your DC trip. With the restaurant and bar, Dirty Habit, on the 2nd floor, Monaco DC is the perfect getaway. They have different sized room to accommodate your group as well as meeting room spaces and ballroom to host events! The decor perfectly compliments such the historic city of DC. There are ample coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and other activities within a one mile radius of the hotel. The valet and front desk staff were so kind with our check in and check out as well. A MUST VISIT.
