We only stayed one night but was impressed by the helpful service from the manageress, Carol, who was very efficient. Our room was lovely and comfortable with a beautiful view down the harbour and across to the ferry terminal. Bathroom contained a spa bath that I put to good use

Having driven from Auckland to Wellington in one day, caught the ferry across the Cook Strait from Wellington to Picton to say I was exhausted and really looking forward to falling into bed at the hotel I had booked. First thing that struck me was no one was at the front desk,

Hi, Thank you for your review. I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations after a long day travelling. Our reception staff are not always at the front reception desk, we do have a notice on the reception desk stating should the desk be unattended, then to press the button onto the speaker phone, this calls through to the receptionist on duty. Our receptionist assist in our in house restaurant during the evenings when required, I trust this is where the receptionist was when you arrived, or may have been assisting other in house guests, but once called they would have been down to assist you with your check in. Unfortunately the elevator was shut down for safety reasons on the day of your arrival. Assistance with taking any luggage to your room would have been offered by the receptionist. Sadly this technical problem with the elevator was beyond our control and safety was a priority. We do offer continental breakfasts as room service deliveries on the night of arrival. To open our restaurant daily for breakfasts has not proven to be viable. Sorry we do not have air conditioning units in our rooms, it has not been a requirement. We did introduce osculating fans for those guests who need extra air circulation due to some exceptionally warmer weather received over the summer period.

We received a very warm welcome at the Beachcomber and our room was ready a little early which was very convenient. The room was large. Bed comfortable. Great view from balcony (see photo). The spa bath was great, and the toiletries plentiful. The little fridge was handy.

My partner and I were looking forward to a lovely meal in nice surroundings. Sadly the meal we had was very underwhelming and we couldn't actually eat it. The staff were somewhat gracious when we discussed our concerns but ultimately left us feeling as it was 'our problem'.

I am sorry you were unhappy with your meal in our restaurant. We normally get outstanding reviews from both in-house guests and casual diners. I hope this was an isolated incident and have brought your concerns to the attention of our chefs and restaurant staff. We hope you will try us again.

We stayed just one night. The room was fine with a lovely view and a balcony. The reception was welcoming and allowed us to book in early. My only complaint was that the rooms come off an exposed outdoor corridor . You can reach your room from a lift in the reception area or an
