Midlands Smelly & Doubt I saw the last 5 reviews about 2 days before our 2 night stay. I saw that every negative review asked the reviewer to email the GM Joanne. So I felt I should email her beforehand to avoid all the disastrous holidays mentioned in the reviews before mine. I did. I emailed Joanne hoping the units would be cleaned properly ahead of our stay as an extended family in 4 of the chalets. I explained I would be doing a review and disliked giving negative feedback. The condition of the chalets were sad and depressing. Dirty, grimy, extremely worn down. The one benefit was we had 4 chalets, so we spent our time in the seemingly cleanest one. Unfortunately the kitchen appliances like the oven and fridge weren't working well. We asked for help. We were told to email after our stay. We used whatever worked in the other chalets. I don't know what happens to families who only have access to a single chalet. I'm so grateful to be leaving. We had to pay for a 3 night stay as they didn't allow us to pay for just the 2 nights we were staying. That made it cost what a 4 star place costs as opposed to the one star that it actually is. This place needs a full refurbishment desperately. If you live anywhere over an hour away from MST, don't waste your time driving here. We spent 5 hours to get here from Jhb. I should habe stayed home where it's clean. I can't wait to get home and wash off this greasy & grimy feeling I have from having spent 2 evenings here. Good luck if you have to come here. Tips: 1. Carry sandals to shower in. 2. Carry clean towels as the ones at MST are Smelly. They should spend more time cleaning them as opposed to making them into swans. 3. Carry paper towel rolls to cover grimy surfaces with such as the beside pedestals and coffee table. 4. Carry disposable tablecloths to cover the grimy table. 5. Buy wood from other places. The wood sold here is wet, mouldy and is 80 rand a bag but doesn't light. Other places sell it at 35 rand for more wood that lights. You don't get any wood start with.

Upon checking in we found the all 3 units absolutely filthy , the only thing that was done is the beds were made and there was a top up clean. We have been here quiet a few years back and nothing had changed , pictures of this place is deceiving. It’s extremely grimy , murky and dirty.this place needs a deep high pressure cleaning team for inside and out and everything needs to be serviced. Upkeep is very poor.

I stayed here during the August Womens day long weekend with my family of 6. We had a self catering chalet...which we thought was a 3 bedroom chalet, but to our much welcome surprise turned out to be a 4 bedroom chalet. As such, the chalet was very spacious and comfortable but has not been well maintained. Points for improvement would be to add heaters in every room, as it was freezing during the nights, to ensure that all globes are workings, to ensure that the outside doors locked and that the safe worked (from a security point of view) as well as to have oven/stove instructions as there were no markings at all on any of the knobs. In addition, the covid rules did not allow for any cleaners to enter the chalet (which was not a problem), but then cleaning supplies need to be provided. The resort facilities were plentiful but there was a mix up with our horseriding booking which was disappointing, All in all a relaxing weekend jspent with family, which could have been made better with a little attention to details...

Our self-catering chalet had a great view, was clean, well-equipped, and more than comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our horse ride and spa treatments as well. The Games Room had one set of table tennis bats and, even on request, a second set could not be produced to play a round of doubles. There was a score bard for the bowls, but no chalk, not even from reception. We were given pen and paper instead. The fountain and stream around the putt putt course was stagnant and very dirty. The gardens and general property look very little like the photos on the website, needing a lot of maintenance to restore them to past glory. We are so very disappointed with the service we received here: having filled in "honeymoon" as our reason for staying on both the booking and check-in forms, there wasn't anything in the room, even small and inexpensive, to acknowledge this. The restaurant was closed more than it was open. A wedding guest tried to gift us during our stay here but, due to lack of communication from the admin staff, could not do so, and we were left embarrassed. We initially booked our stay for dates that fell into the Covid hard lockdown of 2020, and trying to redeem our Covid voucher was a nightmare. Also, we had previously booked a 4 night stay and now, with our voucher, could only book a 3 night stay for this year. The First Group still has R400 credit of ours which we were not allowed to use towards an activity or meal at Midlands Saddle and Trout as it is "accomodation credit" only. We are yet to get our money back. Poor, poor service. Very disappointed.

Dear ShirlsRose, Glad to hear you enjoyed the views, Spa and horse-rides. I apologise for the lack of table tennis bats, we have rectified this and will look into the scoring system for the bowls. I looked into your reservations and noted that on your original booking during lockdown, 2020 it was noted that it was your honeymoon retreat however this was not carried through on to the new reservation. Please do let me know if you are travelling to midlands in the future, we would be happy to make your stay here a second honeymoon for you. You are welcome to contact me directly should you be joining us at Midlands Saddle & Trout so that I can ensure you are spoilt. My email address is midlandsgm@firstgroup-sa.co.za Thank you for your feedback and we hope to see you again soon. Warm regards, Joanne

Brilliant facility, our unit 30 A was spotless and beautifully furnished, modern throughout with every single appliance and piece of furniture in excellent condition ( not the "tired, well used" expereience which one often risks taking when going self catering) Reception check in and out was a pleasure, just a little note, the on site "shop " is tiny and basic, so make sure you take most of what you beleive you will need. very friendly staff and very safe establishment. Front security is also very effieinct and access is well controlled, Will definately be back
