The rooms and treehouses are great, interesting and fun to go with family. The manager however made us feel unwelcome, he made us aware when we arrive that dinner is strictly at 6 o’clock whether we are there or not (felt like I was back at boarding school). After asking one of the ladies who worked there what time the bar area closed, we were told 21:00, the manager came to us at 20:00 saying he wants us to go back to our treehouse and play the game of cards we were busy playing there. We said that we just wanted to finish our game and we’d be on our way, he came back again in the space on 10 minutes and told us again to please leave as he’d had a long weekend (it was a Thursday). He then switched off the lights and music in the room we were in while we were playing and left. A manager like this should not be working in the hospitality industry and will succeed to carry on bringing bad reviews if this is how he treats his paying guests. This was the only negative thing about Sycamore lodge I experienced. …
A wonderful escape ...incredible attention to detail in the treehouses, with beautiful creative woodwork. Great food and really lovely hosts...including the doggies. Thank you for providing such a gorgeous place to just BE and relax.
Sycamore is a remarkable little place that has such homey and welcoming feel to it! The friendly staff, beautiful views and delicious food was all phenomenal! We stayed in the Faraway cottage and it was SO special!! Thank you for having us!!!
It was our very first family holiday during the June/July half-year break. My entire family and I felt like we weren't allowed to do anything in the communal areas. We had to remove our shoes as the owner was worried his carpet was going to get dirty. The staff was not friendly at all and we felt very out of place. I would not recommend this place for any families.
We loved our stay in the Fantasy treehouse. So unique. And the dinners snd breakfasts were outstanding. Loved the home cooking and hospitality in the dining room. A few minor details not attended to in the treehouse. But overall wonderful.
We really enjoyed staying in bottle while competing at oaksprings Horse Trials. The accommodation is novel and fun, the outside shower and the spa bath we're both a hit. We loved knowing we were coming back to a delicious dinner. Parking close to the unit was really helpful as we had lots of kit to move from the car and back each day. Only downside was the traffic noise. It was quite loud at night.
100 % Stay Excellent service , whenever i go down to the coast i will stay over again in this manstion of a 1800 style double story (herehuis) Our hosts were the best ever , very friendly and helpfull i actually enjoyed everything even the pets ............................
I forgot to switch on my outside light on Wednesday night - my second night. Although I was given a small lamplight to find my way after supper, it would have been good to have had an escort. However the slight feeling of angst appeals to me, so it wasn't a problem. Maybe it would make someone else anxious. My stay was a happy one and I was well looked after with comfortable space to use my computer, and the TV switched to the programme I wanted to watch. I feel everyone should experience for at least one night their childhood wish to be in a tree house. Breakfasts were good and the muffins great. The three course dinner was fine but not gourmet.
We spent the day visiting a few places on the Midlands Meander before checking in here. The shops, farms and eateries were so friendly and welcoming, so this was a noticeable difference. The manner here seemed brusque and they were doing us a favour. No change was noted from 3pm to 9 am the next morning. Meals are mandatory , with dinner and breakfast included in the rate but, here too, it was all a big effort. The food were really basic, with no choices and could perhaps be described as institutional, for example the dessert. The scrambled egg was good on a cold wet morning and they did bake fresh muffins, to their credit. They know exactly how many people are coming and yet no fresh fruit was offered. Timing is also strictly to suit their schedule and not too accommodating for travelers. Breakfast starts at 8am,no debate. For a place located with easy access to the main Durban - Joburg route, this seemed a bit surprising. If I wanted to sleep in a unit with wet floors and dripping windows, I could have camped for a fraction of the cost. Yes rain and storms come but how they are handled says a lot. I know the pandemic has been tough on all but I for one was happy to throw the key in the departure box and leave. Pity, because the concept is different and location is attractive.…
We loved staying over as a family on our way down to the coast. Sharon and Phendi was a great help. The dinner, bed and breakfast is a great package. Food was amazing and the Fantasy tree house was a great experience
