I stayed at Witsiehoek for a long weekend, to enjoy the Tugela Falls and Mahai Falls trails. The stay surpassed all expectations, given the wet summer the region has had this year. All of the waterfalls were flowing strong, the mountains were lush green, and the wildflowers prolific. I'll be back.
Staff were always friendly and welcoming, they went out of their way to ensure my stay was great. They were attentive and inquired how the day's hikes were when you were in the restaurant, also recommended short hikes around the Lodge. The accommodation was great, rooms are neat and clean. Definitely high on my recommend to other list and I will most certainly be back.
I arrived Friday afternoon 18 December 2020. Comfortable accommodation, magnificent location, high up on a ridge, views of Natal Drakensberg on one side, Free State of the other. There is a paved road all the way to the lodge. I found staff friendly and helpful, food was good and plentiful. Pre-arrival room servicing was not so good, when I took a shower after arrival the shower gel dispenser was empty, the shampoo dispenser was broken. Also no teaspoon was provided with tea and coffee supplies. These faults were promptly rectified when I reported them. A nice touch was that they gave me a box of extra muffins to take home with me.
I have been meaning to write this for ages- the trip was in fact in April 2016 but there is no option to record so retrospectively The accomodation is cozy, comfortable and very reasonably priced and the service exceptional. Without our own wheels, the owner kindly picked us up from the bus station at quite some distance and then was extremely helpful and generous in helping provide accomodation and assistance when we over ran our trek and missed our transport. I have rarely seen such kindness from hotel managers. The scenery and nearby walks are breathtaking. Highly recommended.
During our visit to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, we did a drive on the R57 through Phuthaditjhaba into the mountains and what a wonderful experience. Beautiful scenery and road end at the Lodge where we had something to eat which was more than value for money. Although in the mountains the road is paved and the incline small enough for any car no matter how small. Awesome view from the top. We had a look at the accommodations which looked very attracting.
