Alpine Heath Resort is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and engaging events like karaoke, which leave a lasting impression on guests. Visitors commend the resort for its cleanliness, from the neat chalets to spotless towels, as well as the professional service provided by attentive staff. However, opinions on the rooms are divided, as some find them spacious while others consider them small and uncomfortably warm in summer. Despite the variety of activities and family-friendly vibe, guests have raised concerns over value, citing overpriced shops, subpar food, and the need for better amenities.

This establishment never ever disappoint us. They exceed our expectations each time we visit there, which was now a fourth time over the years, the last being in 2021 during the Covid era.
On this weekend, the Security staff at the gate were superbly friendly and professional.
The Reception staff were also great with their check-in administration and orientation.
The chalet was stunning with our lawns freshly cut and what a great outdoor area.
The whole weekend was full of entertainment from midday until late evening.
The maintenance guy helped us with organising a hosepipe, a wash bay, and we washed our vehicles while he waited for any assistance we might need.
The pool staff were great, even offering us some tumblers for our drinks and tidying up afterwards.
Our BIG PLUS was the General Manager, Mr Abel Mokoena, who made us feel at home-away-from-home. Surprisingly, he visited us at our chalet just for greet and ensuring we have a lovely stay :-)

Fortunately, although we were in November, we looked at the forecast for our stay and had to repack because winter came back, even with snow on the top of the mountains. There is a good wood burner stove in the lounge which heats up most of the unit, fortunately I had taken a small heater so could warm my bedroom at night. The units are semi-detached but well-spaced apart surrounded by lovely lawns. When sitting outside beware of the birds because their manners are not very good, so they do not mind where they mess. A very friendly peacock visited us regularly. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is certainly a lot to do or not do. This is a 4 star Berg Resort so don't expect prices of food to be the same as the takeaway down the street. Units are fully self catering with a braai outside and are serviced daily except Sunday. Although we had no children with us, they do have lots for the children to do.

An awesome stay made perfect by the wonderful breakfast and reception staff. They were amazing and catered to our every need. The food was excellent
Cascades hike had 4 river crossings which was fun but should have been better marked on the route as well as the map which had a black background
Rooms were clean and comfortable
Been here many times but this was definitely our best stay

I recently booked a trip for my family because it was my husband's birthday and I was rather disappointed with the food quality. We included breakfast in our accommodation and the food quality was not appealing. The omelet made was raw, no serviettes at the table, tea and coffee was self service and there were limited staff available to assist during a busy breakfast buffet.
I think management needs to look into this and ensure that staff are properly trained and service delivery is not compromised at any cost. This left a very bitter taste in my mouth after my horrible experience on my husband's birthday weekend.

The resort is set in a beautiful location and the views won't disappoint.

Very well maintained as well.

The only downside of the resort are the rooms.

It's very outdated and needs an aircon unit in the main family area at least.
We stayed in unit 21 and 22 by the river side, and couldn't open our windows at night because of mosquitoes and spiders.

The bedrooms have ceiling fans with chains on the side that you have to pull to make it faster or slower.
It's absolutely useless and the nights are very uncomfortable because it's extremely hot in the rooms.

When I suggested to the lady at reception regarding aircon units she said other people also had the same problem.. But according to her it was too expensive to install.

We paid R28000 for 2 chalets for 3 nights.. This is on par with 5 star hotels and the rooms are 2 star quality. It's dark with very little lighting.. And outdated furniture.

I would advise other people to rather check around as the evenings are extremely uncomfortable in these rooms.

The whole idea of staying in a resort is to come and relax.

Alpine Heath Resort is set in a beautiful location and the staff are very friendly.. but the rooms are terrible.. For this I will say it's overpriced and unfortunately I will not be staying there again.

Dear 7261fazs Thank you for you recent review regarding your stay at Alpine Heath Resort. Please allow me to apologize for any inconvenience caused as a result of the extreme heat during your period of stay. Your comments is very valuable to us and will assist us in providing a better more suitable quality standard and service in future. The Body Corporate of Alpine Heath is currently in the process of investigating the options of installing air-conditioners in our accommodation units which to date has proven very costly project. As part of our 5 year refurbishment plan we are also looking at updating our chalet furniture allowing the unit interiors to comply more with modern standards. This is unfortunately not a fast process and with the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the strain it left on the entire tourism industry the refurbishment might be rolled out in smaller phases. Thank you once again for your valuable comments and we will certainly improve on the quality of stay going forward. Looking forward to welcoming you back at Alpine Heath Resort soon. Kind regards Gawie Nel General Manager

As a first time guest at Alpine Heath resort, we were pleasantly surprised by the amazing service and stunning surroundings. The resort offers all the amenities, and security for a relaxed stay. There is room for improvement though such as stocking up of the on site shop and making the items more affordable. There is minimal evening entertainment and only one TV in the 6 sleeper chalet. Overall the service is excellent and we had an amazing stay.

a beautiful, relaxing outdoor experience, way overpriced. the accommodation needs attention, very poor lighting, shower in ensuite needs attention, unit for the price does not have a single up to date appliance, not even a cordless kettle, outdated microwave and no dishwasher/washing machine/dryer, the fridge also problematic old, froze all the veg in the fridge, nothing that would make your stay pleasant if staying for a long period. Leave alone the accommodation being over priced, activities are just the same. Over R25 000 for 3 units.

We recently stayed at Alpine Heath Resort and was extremely disappointed to find that some of our clothes mysteriously disappeared from our unit during our stay. It's unacceptable for a holiday destination to have such lax security measures in place, and I would strongly advise against staying here until they address this serious issue.
The only person who had access to our unit was the cleaning lady. After reporting this, they still failed to get back to us.

Responded 19 Dec 2022
Dear Rehen M Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay at Alpine Heath Resort and Conference Centre. Please accept my most sincere apology for the shortcomings in service and quality you and your family experienced during your stay. Your comments are very valuable to us and will assist in future training efforts in ensuring a better quality service delivery. Reading through your review it is clear that we did not exceed your expectations and we will try our very best in rectifying the problems listed to provide you with a better-quality stay since you are still checked in with us. In feedback on your commentary, it is valuable to note that Alpine Heath Resort and Conference Centre is always trying to ensure that ALL our GUESTS receive the best experience and from time to time we fail in providing a consistent level of service for that we are sorry. We are constantly working on upgrading our facilities and spending the necessary capital on pressure points we deem important to improve the quality stay of our GUESTS and for the reason of your review, I would like to list some of the more important features we upgraded in the last year. In 2022 we spent a substantial amount of money on the upkeep of our recreational facilities like the putt-putt course, cinema seating, outdoor and indoor furniture in our cost centres, gardens and grounds and most recently we invested in replacing all fridges in our accommodation units with a high-quality brand and model which in itself uplifted our offering in our Units. All main bedroom King size beds were replaced in 2022 which offered a better sleeping experience to our GUESTS. The Northern Berg area also experienced severe rainfall and extremely hot days over the past three weeks which makes the effective management of insect control challenging since we are living so close to nature in the Northern Berg. We will however inspect more closely for unwanted insects inside the chalet going forward. With the above said I would like to further inform you that we are busy with a chalet refurb plan which will further address electronic appliances and living areas which will further enhance your stay in future. An important feature in this refurb plan includes of course the upgrade of bathroom and toilet facilities in our units. We have an ongoing maintenance program running which includes the replacement of worn-out carpets but unfortunately, we were unable to complete this project in time for the Festive season. More important is the level of service and quality offered in and around our cost centres and I would like to assure you that the shortcomings will be addressed with the relevant Head of Departments involved. From the feedback I received I understand that our Entertainment Manager/GUEST Relations Manager has been in contact with you to address some of the issues you have experienced and he will ensure to check in with you and the family during the rest of your stay. Once again please accept my most sincere apology for the substandard experience received and we hope to make the rest of your stay memorable. Kind regards Gawie Nel

Experience – Was amazing, we spent 4 days at the resort and from the reception to the housekeeping staff, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful.
Location – The roads getting to the resort did have a few potholes so you had to drive with caution but that is because of the heavy rains the area had in the previous weeks.
Rooms – All clean and tidy, Wifi signal could be a bit better but embraced it because the lovely views made up for it. There were a lot of fruit flies in the kitchen area but I think that’s because we stayed closer to the dam/river. There was a lot of standing water around the chalets which made it house more bugs etc. Housekeeping was great, every morning they came through and cleaned the chalet.
Amenities – The best part, on the first night they hosted a bring and braai with live music, we were allowed to take our burgers and chips and they prepared it all for us. The next day we all went for a hike which led to a waterfall so the views was great. The pool was sparkling clean and everything else was amazing. I would of liked the putt putt area to be open but it was under renovation.

Overall I cannot thank the staff for allowing us to have such an amazing trip and create so many memories with our family from Durban. The Alpine staff ensured we were always taken care off.

The road is tared all the way, even in the resort. I can't be sure about the helicopter ride but at most resorts you can book without having to. travel far to catch the flight.
