Nestled in a vibrant setting, the Alpine Heath Resort garners accolades for its spotless accommodations and spirited atmosphere, particularly the karaoke nights that resonate with guests celebrating special occasions. While the service generally receives high marks for the staff's warmth and attentiveness, there's a call for better training.
A plethora of activities adds to the resort's appeal, though comfort could be enhanced with improved climate control. However, opinions on value and room comfort are mixed, with some guests questioning the balance of cost versus quality and room amenities.

Detailed Reviews
Overall enjoyed our stay. My kids loves the play areas and the pony rides.
However, I was quite disappointed with the reception service. After the first night the coffee/teas was not replenished and neither were the bathroom supplies. Tried calling reception, after 5 attempts still no answer. Eventually got through and was told they would sent someone. Even asked a staff member who had passed by our unit. By next morning still not one had come. Only after the cleaning stuff had come, that only in the afternoon after 14:00, meaning whole day unit not refreshed.
Showerheads in both bathrooms need to either be replaced or services. Both clogged up and water no flowing nicely.
The freezer drawers were broken and it was a mission to use the freezer.
Some areas are also not wheelchair friendly and we were pushing a baby pram. It was quite a mission moving around.
Some small things that could change the visitors' experience a lot.

Just spent a very restful week here with my family. Absolute peace, calm and tranquility. We loved every moment spent at the resort.
The units have been upgraded and are very clean and well equipped.
Very friendly staff, especially Praisegod, whom we have got to know over the years and Petra at reception, who was always smiling, friendly and willing to help.
Every evening we would get a courtesy call to check if we needed anything.
The Housekeeping supervisor was also very helpful and friendly, always checking up on us if we needed anything, but unfortunately I did not get her name.
At the moment there are limited children’s activities due to covid regulations.
Loved and enjoyed the hikes.
This has got to be one of the best resorts at the berg, and we will always return!

My Wife and I were staying at a nearby resort and decided to have lunch at the Alpine Heath Restaurant. The staff were all friendly, right from our arrival at the gate. The waitresses were very welcoming, super friendly and we received fantastic service from them. They sanitized our table thoroughly when we arrived, something we have noticed falling by the waist-side in most other restaurants.Aha clearly takes their staff training very seriously which is uncommon nowadays. Even the security guards were very professional and helpful. We had the chicken burgers for lunch...one of the best burgers we have ever had! We then decided to order dinners for take away, the ribs with veg and the steak and veg. Both meals were amazing. Well done to the chef, kitchen staff and waitresses, true assets to Aha!

The resort is set in a beautiful location and the views won't disappoint.
Very well maintained as well.
The only downside of the resort are the rooms.
It's very outdated and needs an aircon unit in the main family area at least.
We stayed in unit 21 and 22 by the river side, and couldn't open our windows at night because of mosquitoes and spiders.
The bedrooms have ceiling fans with chains on the side that you have to pull to make it faster or slower.
It's absolutely useless and the nights are very uncomfortable because it's extremely hot in the rooms.
When I suggested to the lady at reception regarding aircon units she said other people also had the same problem.. But according to her it was too expensive to install.
We paid R28000 for 2 chalets for 3 nights.. This is on par with 5 star hotels and the rooms are 2 star quality. It's dark with very little lighting.. And outdated furniture.
I would advise other people to rather check around as the evenings are extremely uncomfortable in these rooms.
The whole idea of staying in a resort is to come and relax.
Alpine Heath Resort is set in a beautiful location and the staff are very friendly.. but the rooms are terrible.. For this I will say it's overpriced and unfortunately I will not be staying there again.

Dear 7261fazs Thank you for you recent review regarding your stay at Alpine Heath Resort. Please allow me to apologize for any inconvenience caused as a result of the extreme heat during your period of stay. Your comments is very valuable to us and will assist us in providing a better more suitable quality standard and service in future. The Body Corporate of Alpine Heath is currently in the process of investigating the options of installing air-conditioners in our accommodation units which to date has proven very costly project. As part of our 5 year refurbishment plan we are also looking at updating our chalet furniture allowing the unit interiors to comply more with modern standards. This is unfortunately not a fast process and with the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the strain it left on the entire tourism industry the refurbishment might be rolled out in smaller phases. Thank you once again for your valuable comments and we will certainly improve on the quality of stay going forward. Looking forward to welcoming you back at Alpine Heath Resort soon. Kind regards Gawie Nel General Manager

Terrible stay. We went there to relax, and within one hour of arrival, we found 3 very large cockroaches in the unit. There were spiders in webs also. It was obvious the room had not been cleaned properly in a long time. The furniture was broken, the rooms were extremely hot making it hard to sleep at night, no AC only ceiling fans that were not making any air. HC heck out was at 10. We got an 11 am late check out and at 09:30, the housekeeper was standing outside our room looking inside waiting for us to leave . When I went outside to ask her what she was doing standing there looking inside our windows, she said she was waiting for us to leave. I told her our check out was 11am and she just stood there not knowing what to do. I reassured her we were not vacating the room until 11. The view from our room was breathtaking. Only positive about this hotel. I would never stay there again .

Good Day, On behalf of all the staff and management at aha Alpine Heath Resort & Conference Centre, we would first of all like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay with us. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our deepest regret and disappointment at the nature of your recent visit with us, and even more so at the various issues that culminated in an unpleasant holiday experience at our establishment. We regret that your stay was marred by these issues, and would like to apologise profusely to your and your and family in this regard. The issues highlighted in your review have been brought to the immediate attention of our senior management, as they are entirely regrettable and go against the level of quality and customer service that we as a resort strive relentlessly towards. We apologise once again to you and your family, and would like to thank you for visiting aha Alpine Heath Resort & Conference Centre. The Northern Berg has a unique natural beauty - tranquil, superb scenery. The management at Alpine Heath go out of their way to ensure you experience NONE of this. Loud music around the clock. Stayed on a weekend and the musuc was blaring from the main entertainment area until way after 12:00 every night. This despite their own house rules stating "no music after 22:00". Phoned reception every night to be told it is the norm on weekends and they'll "try to get the DJ to turn it down a bit". During the day, your fellow guests will ensure you are never at a loss for loud music of some sort as there is zero respect for noise pollution and no attempt from management to control it. It was a most unpleasant experience at a significant price tag. Although beautifully situated with nice facilities and activities, this has totally ruined an otherwise nice venue. The staff are generally pleasant and responsive, but the place is just plain badly managed. At breakfast buffet there was one person trying to keep up with egg orders while the queue was never less than 5 people deep. This notwithstanding that there are two frying stations. I watched the lady doing the frying repeatedly ask someone to replenish mushrooms and cheese from the kitchen to no effect. Other dishes were only replenished when right down to the dregs. I feel bitter at having paid good money for this- there are dozens of other places in the Berg actually worthy of the tag "family resort" where I could rather have spent my time and money. If you want a break from the city to relax and teach your kids the value of time spent in nature - stay very far away from this resort!

Good Day, On behalf of all the staff and the management team at aha Alpine Heath Resort & Conference Centre, we would like to first of all thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay with us. More importantly, we would like to take this opportunity to apologise to you and your family for the inconvenience and discomfort endured as a result of the noise disturbance from the Karaoke and Party Night activities offered at the resort during the course of your recent visit with us. We would have hoped to create a more pleasant holiday experience for you and your family, and deeply regret that what was meant to be a relaxing and tranquil weekend away was marred by ongoing noise pollution and inconsistencies on our part. The issues highlighted in your review come as a great disappointment to our team, as they contradict the quality and standard of service that has seen us recognised as the best family friendly resort in the Drakensberg, and for that we offer our most sincere apologies to you and your loved ones. On the back of your review, we have brought the various issues to the attention of the relevant department heads, who will collectively endeavour to explore ways of providing a more pleasant customer experience to all our guests during the course of their stay with us. We apologise once more, and would like to thank you for visiting aha Alpine Heath Resort & Conference Centre. We wish you and your family everything of the best for the year ahead, and safe travels everywhere the road may lead you. Regards, aha Alpine Heath Resort & Conference Centre Team

Booked a year in advance and to say the least, the units are old, tired and filthy. Spider webs on desk lamps, dried milk inside mugs and dust on linen. Cleaning staff did not even have a scourer that they use to wash dishes, they use a swab. Some staff are really nice and try their best to make your stay memorable, I think because they are aware of the issues. Units are small, not suitable for 6 people and we were 3 adults and 3 kids and felt very cramped. Tables wobble, fridge stinks and the microwave rusted on the inside. I think that back in the heyday, this facility was no doubt a great place, but today, no so much. And to top it all, I was at reception when a man walked in and was greeted by the the staff, they did not get a reply, later I found out it was the manager of the resort. I thought that to be very rude of a leader. Wont be returning to this place.

We stayed at chalet 3 for a period of 5 days. The chalet has only had surface cleaning as upon check in we noticed the toothpaste marks from previous stay. They was no broom at the chalet for us to clean. The disclothes was washed by ourselves and never replaced. The kitchen sink and bathroom taps was broken, we reported this on our first day which was never attended to, the fridge took a day to cool properly. The state of the bathrooms was not too good. The only good part for us was the kiddies entertainment and the DJ on the day which assisted with our sons birthday, they was amazing with the hospitality and assistance. The receptionist was always angry and never had a smile on her face. Was not happy with the accommodation state for what we paid.

We had a fantastic family holiday at Alpine Resort. Everything was really on point. We took our own fans as we had read that there was no aircon and we also brought some extra pots pans etc and it was a super experience. The views are so great. It's such a great experience of the new South Africa - so diverse with such friendly families. The walks in the mountains are amazing and so easy to do and the natural beauty is breathe-taking. Our unit looked right onto the mountain with no obstructions, I couldn't have wished for a more gorgeous view and we found ourselves hanging out there a lot. Only suggestion would be a second pool area, aircon and perhaps offering a per head rate for those not filling all the rooms. I loved it and can't wait to go back.

Yes it isnt too bad.
