Staff were very engaging, efficient and caring. Loved the French cafe for breakfast, older male waiters who really happy and pleased to serve you. Great smashed avo on sour toast with poached egg. Divine.

This is our fourth or fifth visit to the Blackman and we just love it. The staff are more than willing to go the extra mile, the rooms are lovely, comfortable, spacious and modern. Truly relaxing. It is a little walk out of town, but right outside is a tram stop - we chose to

We booked this hotel for one night as we had a wedding closeby. Finding the hotel was easy, check-in was simple and very friendly, underground parking ($25/night) was straightforward and secure with direct access to the reception and higher floors. The room itself was small but

Stayed at the Blackman in a deluxe studio balcony suite for 3 nights. It was a prepaid deal and included parking, wifi and breakfast....value for money. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. A couple of minor glitches with staff not familiar with the package deal on check

The Bay Executive Suite Balcony at Art Series - The Blackman
Hey Lisa, I stayed at the Blackman at the end of October of this year. I was originally placed at the rear of the hotel from the main entrance. As mentioned in one of the earlier replies, the new building being erected is merely feet away from the Blackman. Personally it didn’t wake me (the workers start at around 7am) but it definitely blocks any view there may have once been at the rear. I requested a move away from the works to the front of the building and the staff were more than happy to help. Essentially, make sure you’re the main entrance side of the building!

Yes, it starts about 6:30 AN. I happened to be on the 5th floor and woke up to guys in my window. If I had only been warned and was able to shut the blinds. Just ask for a room that does not face it.

Always like a hotel room/apartment with a balcony and Blackman was great having views of the bay. Hopefully the construction of the building next door is now completed but when we were there in May this year, it wasn't a major issue as much it was just an extra effort to remember to close the blinds so that privacy is maintained when workers start their early morning work shift. Also having a relaxing cuppa to read a book on the balcony or with the balcony door open may not be as peaceful if construction work is noisy. Other than that, one of the best rooms we have had in a hotel in terms of comfort, luxury, ambience. Great location, easy access to trams and restaurants. Take advantage of the Smartcar rental for guests, and drive to the South Melbourne markets is only 8mins away it is one of the classiest markets found in Australia - great cafes, foods and boutiques ... even the butchers and fruit/vege stalls present their stalls in a classy way. We enjoyed this place more than the highly publicised Chapel St shopping/cafe strip. However, if you do go to Chapel St, would be great to make time to visit sister hotel, The Olsens for a swim in their pool.
