Fabulous clean fascinating underground motel. The doors tend to be loud if people aren't careful when closing them. Okay if everyone goes to bed early and gets up not too early. Staff very friendly and helpful. Caught the Breakaways Tour from Motelvwith Aaron. Spectacular experience all over.
Really didn’t know what to expect from this experience but it was lovely. Erin is a delight to deal with and so is her husband. The room was immaculate and clean and well maintained. They do offer a laundry service for $10 a load and can dry your clothes for you as well. The bed is only a double so it was a bit tight as we have a king size bed at home. Takes a bit of getting used to again. So if you are over 6ft, you may have issues sleeping comfortably. Very quiet and the temperature remained steady all night. Something to say you have done and I would recommend this motel anytime.
I guess we’re not suited to staying underground. We stayed in Room 9 on the lower level which was smallish and the air somewhat stuffy. It was pretty ordinary to discover the bed was pushed hard up against the rock wall so one person had to clamber over the other to get in/out of bed. The “double” bed seemed really small - I’m 5’11” and it felt like my feet hung over the bottom edge. With only a tiny window there’s not much fresh air. Shower was good, as was the little kitchenette. However, it was a bit rude and unnecessary to have a note stuck to the wall saying we’d be charged $30 if the dishes weren’t cleaned, dried and put away, especially when the room was $145. By the reviews, this place clearly suits some people but next time in Coober Pedy we’ll choose a place with a queen bed and good air circulation.…
This is a really comfortable motel at the affordable end of the market. High points were its location with a terraced area looking out to the west which was great for Coober Pedy sunsets. It has a range of facilities not commonly found - a new microwave, crockery and cutlery, and glassware (including wine glasses!). The owners were very friendly and helpful, including being available when, for example, the bbq proved difficult to start. We found the whole place very relaxing and enjoyable with really nothing to complain about. The fact that rooms were located into the hillside, a common feature of accommodation here designed to reduce the impact of high summer temperatures, made it a little more interesting.
Stayed 4 nights at the Underground, we booked the self contained deluxe room (room 9) which was great. There are 2 self contained rooms, the other one (room 8) is suitable for families having 2 bedrooms. They are outside the main building dug into the hillside at the front of the grounds. Room was well equipped with tv, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and crockery etc, one minor negative is we found the 2 seater sofa a little small to be able to both stretch out comfortable on it whilst watching tv but the rooms are compact so space is a little tight for anything much bigger but outside you have your own paved sitting area with outdoor setting which was a lovely way to enjoy a wine or coffee. There is a communal bbq on the grounds also. Hotel management were helpful and friendly and overall was a great experience.…
Clean, comfortable boutique hotel. Friendly hosts. Great for the underground experience. Share kitchen was clean and well stocked. Cheerful colour scheme. BBQ facilities available. Nice outdoor dining area
Misleading It's NOT underground but it's in a cave. That's a different unique experience. Neat and clean rooms with no windows I will not recommend anyone to visit Coober Pedy as media and advertising is MISLEADING. However if you are passing through Coober Pedy then I will recommend Underground Motel
Slotted in to stay here on my home on my recent top end trip. The hotel did not disappoint. We had a room that open out to a small patio area with a nice view, a perfect place to enjoy our pizza. The room was awesome and had all we needed, also a comfy bed and a good shower and of course the constant underground temperature. It actually all looked quite new. My only regret was we only had one night but plan to come back sooner than later. A wonderful outback unique experience.
I'm still staying here and I'm writing this review! About 6 years I first started at The Underground Motel here in Coober Pedy and it was great then. My wife and I were travelling with friends on route to Womadelaide and chanced upon thus establishment by chance as we tried to find somewhere decent to stay here in Coober Pedy. Anyway the stay was great. This time my wife and I have been on a m massive roadtrip from Townsville via Alice Springs to Ballarat where I have relocated....we pulled in to Coober Pedy tired and hot after 7 hours of frustrating car troubles in the stifling 40deg + heat. Not wanting to chance a night drive through to Adelaide we once again chose to stay at the Underground Motel. I can tell you , it was a most stupendous choice. Upon check in we were once again shown to out pre cooled underground rooms , resplendent in their cool rock hue....The room was beautifully presented with clean linen, a small but well stocked bathroom and access to a communal kitchen with all the facilities needed to avoid a visit to an overpriced hamburger joint. Sitting here relaxing after a hard day's drive was a pleasure and I can only recommend ...if you need somewhere to stay in Coober Pedy, come here 😁…
I remember staying here about 18 years ago, and it has definitely been kept up-to-date. We stayed in room 9 and it was so amazing. There was a large amount of room for the two of us, wonderful amenities, able to part right up to the door, and it was very quiet. The host was wonderful to us and was able to help us with recommendations for activities and a dinner spot (with 10% discount). Would absolutely stay here again.
