We stayed just one night in an unpowered area of the camp , more room here than other parks in town although a little further out but not too far Water is precious out in Coober so you can’t hook up to the water but you can fill up a 20 litre container for $1 which is cheap Showers are on a 5 minute timer and then 3 minutes break , so to have to be organised there but very reasonable Would stay there again , fenced off , staff friendly IGA in town reasonable prices for restocking You get 10c discount off your fuel as well from the camp , very handy !
I stayed in the unpowered campsite section for a few nights. The staff here were very friendly and helpful to a first time Coober Pedy visitor. The on site restaurant was really handy and meals were delicious - I had a pizza and schnitzel both were top notch. The unpowered camping area is a big dirt area with enough room to find a spot away from other campers but close enough to the amenities so as to not have to walk too far to the bathrooms or restaurant. Also I can't recommend the Coober Pedy tour highly enough. Our guide was Noel who did an outstanding job guiding us around town, to the breakaways and we also got to see a mine and dugouts. A very comprehensive tour and well worth the tour fee. I would definitely stay here again.
Sick of paying so much money for rooms that are disappointing and uncomfortable ($175/night), unfortunately this was just another one of them. Walked into our room and straight away noticed lots of stains on the cream carpet, even in the bedroom. The dining chairs had dirty finger marks and hairs on them, (very visible on white chairs!) The kitchen was nice and clean, the bathroom was okay. I’m not sure if the queen bed sheets had been changed, they had some light stains and hairs, not the most comforting. Don’t plan to stay here again unfortunately. Also strange that you are required to empty all your rubbish bins from the room and take them to the parks rubbish bins outside or you will be charged a cleaning levy.
After driving a long way to get to Coober Pedy, you expect a clean room, a friendly welcome and ease of check in. The welcome has a “Check-In” lane but it doesn’t give instructions on how to checkin so I rang the phone attached to the gate. No answer so I parked in Visitor parking and checked in. The lady with glasses said she had no idea there was a phone on the gate or where it goes. Great start - they I get told I need to pre-order dinner or I’ll probably miss out. Then to see poor caravan people later that evening get turned away so rudely because “You didn’t pre-order” at dinner, with limited options in town - having worked in remote hotels and resorts it was really rude. Get to the room, you don’t expect much being a Caravan park but it’s an ok room. Not sure who choose beige/white carpet as it looked filthy. But the worst bit was the bed had already been slept in, with hair on both pillows external and in the bed - it was remade using dirty sheets - I stripped the bed and used my own - didn’t raise it due to the blunt and curt service received and witnessed so far.…
Very pleasant and efficient staff. On the outskirts of Coober Pedy so very quiet. Very spacious living/kitchen area fully equipped with oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge etc. separate, spacious bedroom with king size bed, great linen. Large bathroom/laundry. Tastefully decorated throughout. A real oasis after an eight hour drive.
The one bedroom suite was very clean and welcoming. Well stocked kitchen, excellent bathroom with washing machine and dryer, which is convenient for longer stays. The large bed was very comfortable. You could go out the back and check out the stars. The manager was very helpful and sorted out a payment issue quickly without fuss. We would certainly stay there again.
Good safe park that we found had excellent facilities. It is obvious that changes are being made which is a credit to new owners. Our site was fantastic however it is first in best dressed so arrive as early as you can. Obviously sites are dirt however flat and easy to access. Remember you are in the outback. Overall this is a friendly, great park.!
Not to the standard we expected of Big 4. Parts of the park were a construction site and other reviews indicated that it has been for some years. Waste dump located next to the laundry at the end of the ablutions block made things a bit whiffy. Only one one ablution block for a large park. Vans and RVs packed in with little room between them, meant we could not put out our awning or table an chairs and the gentleman in the van next door woke me with his snoring. Bare earth strewn with small stones was not very inviting. No effort appears to have been made to grow trees or improve the environment despite having access to grey water from showers and the laundry. However, the on site pizzeria and the cleanliness of the bathroom was welcome. Reception staff and the man guiding us to our site were appreciated. In an environment short of water, I had no issue with paying for showers. Nsomi…
We arrived in town and went to the Big 4 to grab a non powered site for our swag for the night. went in and booked a non powered site and paid the money $38.00. Had a map to show us to way and ended up in an area that had machinery and piles of construction waste. it appeared we had gone to the wrong area. On review of the map no we are in the area circled. Went back to reception and asked if that is the location we should be in and advised yes that the non powered sites. I advised that we are not happy setting up there as it was in their rubbish area only to be told "well that's it". On asking for our money back as we would not stay i was informed that i had already booked in and no refund was warranted. I had been there for 5 mins. we do not mind roughing it as we had just completed the Shitbox Rally and some locations are rough but this was in an unsafe machine area with the potential of vehicles driving through. We moved on to a motel for the night which was very basic but comfortable and had a very nice people working the reception…
Staff very helpful and kind especially with a 4 legged child tour was great and staff assisted with this site very good and facilities being upgraded. Unfortunately due to COVID restaurant not open. Area of Coober Pedy very unique you would think your in Mars.
