Enjoyed our stay here. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds. Very friendly staff. Hot, hot shower. We didn't need to go into Townsville so perfect spot on the main highway. Little nousy but not too bad.

We enjoyed a very pleasant one night stay at the Sunbird Motel south of Townsville Qld. Friendly and helpful owners. As a nature lover and wildlife photographer from Melbourne I enjoyed stalking the little sunbirds and butterflies on the property. Convenient to Bowling Green Bay / Alligator Creek National Park too. Good value!

The Sunbird Motel provides clean, comfortable and friendly accommodation in kitchenette style motel rooms. It is surrounded by bush land and gardens. It is on the Bruce Highway but you can hardly hear any traffic as it is a little higher than the road. Conveniently located close to Billabong Sanctuary which was what we wanted to see. We arrived late in the afternoon and Lindy was amazing helping us out with some basics. I would recommend and stay here again on my travels north.

Stayed here unexpectedly as the road south was flooded. Lovely and very cheery lady who showed me to the room. Very accommodating and full of great information. She was the best aspect of the stay. The room was for a family, standard queen bed and bunks. The bed was beautiful and comfortable with plenty of pillows and cushions to sit up in bed and watch tv as there were no chairs. Correction, they had two bar chairs so that the kids? could sit at the bench and eat breakfast? The chairs matched the beds with lovely wood grain and wire. Loved those touches however i would've preferred to sit in a chair and watch TV. The linen was lovely, matching but the whole place looked and felt dated. It was only $80 per night so it was extremely reasonable. The only faults I have are minor. There were four cups, four glasses, kettle, microwave etc - but only one teaspoon so had you brought your own food I hope you also brought your own cutlery. The bathroom sink was actually next to the kitchenette so it served as both the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink. One minute I'm brushing my teeth and spitting in it, next I'm washing my dishes in it. There was also a bloody great crack through it so didn't like the lack of hygiene there. They had matching fluffy towels - but I hate these type as they don't seem to absorb any water so after wiping dry you still feel . The whole feel was old and outdated and badly in need of a freshen up and paint. Minor crack in bathroom window; shower head not delivering good stream of hot water; marks on door where locks have been moved etc One of the most humorous things though was the toilet roll. Now I am all for getting the most out of things and not throwing things away, but the toilet roll was a bit of a laugh for me. There was only enough on the roll for one 'sit'. I walked in, dumped my back on the bed then headed for the loo. One sit and I was forced to change the toilet roll. I have just never come across this before, as the owners/ cleaners would have put that toilet roll in the office loo etc and put out a full one. Another issue was the air conditioner. The lady/manager went to the room and set the air con at 23 which she said "I hope that's alright" which i thought was odd, because I figured if I wanted to change it I could do that throughout the night, but no, once I got into the room I figured it out, the customer cannot change the temperature as there were no controls in the room, just an on/off switch. I was also not able to use computer as there was no internet coverage - even with my own hotspot, so that was a real disappointment. The final issue i have was the amount of mosquitoes. In the end that drove me away. I was going to stay a few more hours but couldn't with them. Lovely location, no highway noise due to the trees etc, but due to the trees and the recent wet, the mozzies were in full force. At the end of the day though, lovely sleep, was able to make a cuppa for breakfast and all the basics were covered.

Great value, right on the highway, yet quiet with a homely feel. The owners are extremely helpful. I was initially staying one night but ended staying 3 nights, I had been at a festival for 5 days and was in desperate need of a comfortable room, nice shower and easy parking.
