My wife and I travelled up to Townville to visit a friend in the Hospital and this Motel was the closet and as it turned out not the best option. We booked a room on their web site at the advertised rate of $155 and that's when the surprises started. In the next step of the booking when you advise who will be staying there there is a surcharge of $10 for a second person staying in the room. To say that wife of almost 48 years was most annoyed to find out we had to pay to sleep in the same bed and was considered to be an "optional extra" is an understatement. BUT it didn't stop there. When you finalise your account there is another surcharge if you pay by credit card as if anyone carries hundreds of dollars in their wallet these days. All in all a room that, according to their web site was to cost $155, in reality cost us $167.48. Given that this Motel is an old very, very average place with no personal amenities provided it's pricing can only reflect that it's the closet Motel to both JCU and the Hospital and that's what you pay for. We will be back in Townsville again soon to visit our friend at the Hospital but we won't be coming back to this place. There are a lot better and cheaper places to stay even if they are a bit further away from the Hospital. Caveat Emptor everybody.

Hi Johnno, we have contacted you directly and submitted your booking documentation which clearly showed the room reservation rate of $165 - it did not show any surcharges as our reservation platform does not include surcharges. You may recheck that for yourself. The only surcharge was a credit charge from the bank when you elected to pay by credit even though you were offered the choice of savings or cheque which has no bank surcharge. You chose the credit even though you were aware $2.48 would be charged by the bank. You were upgraded to a fully self contained room with a queen and single bed and with the usual motel prerequisites you called personal amenities. In our phone conversation you stated you did not know you were upgraded but acknowledged that may have been the case. Our motel is closest to the hospital and we provide both short stay and long term stays for patients and guests so we place great care in providing an excellent service. Sorry you were disappointed with your stay but we would happily have refunded your payment had you rejected the room, and we have responded to your review just for the sake of accuracy.

Stayed two nights at the Cedar Lodge Motel as it was one of the closest motels I could find to the JCU Campus. I asked if I could leave my bag for the day, as my plane had flown in early, however was pleasantly surprised when the gentleman at reception offered to change my room so that I could check in straight away. He then explained where bus stop was, which happened to be only 100 metres up the road. Perfect. This bus goes to the hospital first and then the University, with the trip taking about 15 minutes. For the return, as you would imagine, the bus stop is across the road. Stockland shopping centre is about a 10-15 minute walk the other direction. I caught the bus from uni to Stockland to do some food shopping, and then just caught the bus back to the motel as I had purchased a day ticket ($6.20) in the morning. Very handy with bags of shopping! The room was average. Mismatched cups, blanket in cupboard looked a bit grubby, and kitchen utensils so-so. However bedlinen and bathroom were clean, as well as room having a microwave, crockery and cutlery to make a few meals. Did feel a bit strange only having a bathroom sink for kitchen utensils, but didn’t really worry me. My room over looked the four lane road, so no view to speak of. This was of no concern however, as I was not staying on holiday per-se. I thought I may not sleep well due to the traffic noise, but the bed was comfortable and the air conditioner was nice and cool, so I slept like a baby. If you are looking for a no-frills friendly motel, with kitchen amenities, convenient to bus stop for hospital, uni and Stockland Shopping centre, I would recommend Cedar Lodge Motel. I was going to rate 3 Stars, but have added the extra star due to my checkin experience :)

Thank you for the review, we prioritise service and we placed the guest in a comparable room to allow her an early book in. In rooms without full kitchenettes all used dishes and cutlery are replaced by our staff each morning so guests are not expected to clean anything they use. Thank you for your kind words.

I arrived for 1 night as a solo female student and after calling beforehand and confirming I could check in early around 10am I arrived at 11am and stupidly paid my extortionate price of $131.95 (I think prices are randomly made up). I was then shown to my dingy dirty room to be told it hadn't been cleaned yet but this was it, whilst he proceeded to wipe whatever was on the toilet with the dirty towels. I decided that I wouldn't stay and asked for a refund and said I would find somewhere else to be told refunds are only done 24 hours before check in. I still requested a refund and was refused and was ultimately shown to a family room on the ground floor where I was left. This room was then found to only lock with a flimsy latch. I left the room and my money as I knew id be refused the refund again according to the '24 hour policy' which i was never told about upon booking. I would absolutely recommend not using this hotel, despite its close proximity to the hospital and Stockland. Much cheaper, cleaner and safer motels, at much less of the price 😊

Hi Annie, I have just read your review and very disappointed to say the least. I am part owner of the motel and I apologise profusely that were were shown and checked into a room that had not been cleaned. I am sure you can appreciate this is not what usually happens nor should it - If the rooms are not ready for check in it is my policy not to offer or promise an early check in if rooms have not been vacated or cleaned. I can only apologise again for your experience - the manager on duty I imagine was trying to help you our with an early check in without full consideration. Your review does not represent our motel and most reviews would verify my position. I will offer you a full credit of the price paid by way of a free stay on another occasion if this has not already been sorted out. Please make contact with me directly should you wish to do so. Again my utmost apologies for your experience. Mal

The rooms are very basic with dated decor and scratched/chipped furniture. Price my work paid for the stay was $145 for the night - definitely too much for this type of accommodation. The chairs were so dirty that I had to put down a towel before sitting so as to not dirty my work clothes (see photo’s).

Hi there, Sorry to hear that things were not up to our usual standard during your stay. The room you are speaking of is not a true representation of our better rooms. We constantly upgrade as required. We have taken your comments and have changed the chairs of concern, If you do happen to stay again please advise if any of your standards are not to your liking and we can deal with it then and there. Thanks again for staying with us. All the best. MB
