Shire's cabins are beautiful and comfortable and everything you need for a break from society. Our cabin was next to the river and had an outside shower which for me was the best part of our stay. An early morning shower with the river flowing right by you while listening to the monkeys playing in the forest ... AWESOME!!! The owners are fiendly and helpful and there is absolutely nothing I can fault Shire for. But please take note that the gravel road is very bad in places especially if you travel from Big Daddy's side, so if you travel by small car like us be very very careful of the potholes. The short hike to Anderson dam is a breeze and well worth your while.

Wow, what a stunning place to spend some time, at a reasonable price, with the most welcoming hosts imaginable! It is not far from Stutterheim town, but a world apart. I highly recommend the 3 course dinner I ordered too: absolutely delicious, with vegetables grown organically in their own garden. Going to sleep to the sounds of owls in the forest was delightful

We spent two nights at The Shire and we loved every second. We had a corner chalet which had an outdoor bush shower which is awesome! The design of the chalet is what caught our attention and it is quite something as it heads off into a very different design to a regular square chalet. The chalet was equipped with everything you need to self cater and firewood was provided. The beds were very comfortable everything very clean. There are miles and miles of hiking/running trails in the area with stunning scenery. The second night, Rob, our host, provided us with wood fired pizzas and an organic salad. A quick text message and seconds arrived with dessert. If you are looking for a quiet get away and like hiking or running, good value for money, The Shire Eco Lodge is the perfect

Stayed at the Shire for a long weekend getaway - the cabins are stunning and totally unique with tons of little details to take in. Fully functional (small) kitchen with electric hob, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. En-suite shower room, sundeck outside, braai facilties and wood available. Less than an hours drive from East London so perfect for a weekend away. There's a stunning forest right on the doorstep for long walks and a dam up the road to swim. Would recommend choosing a cabin on the river (there are two) as they offer a little more privacy and have the novelty of private outdoor showers with hot and cold water! Perfect for a weekend away as a couple - I can imagine the cabins being too small for a family although there are bunks available. Great value for

All houses exhibit master craftsmanship. All the amenities you would expect to have, and much more. There are also tent sites available (with ablution facilities). Take your hiking shoes or mountain bike along for a good walk or ride in the forest. We would come over again soon! Thank you Rob for a pleasant stay.
