A unique and interesting spot. A creative adventure that definitely impresses everyone who visits. The cabins are each on of a kind, with the owners creative marks everywhere. The lodge borders a small nature reserve where you can do short or long walks. An added surprise was complimentary locally roasted coffee. Very restful and peaceful, good for a weekend away or short stay.
Lovely luxurous cottages. Outdoor shower was great. The place to be if you want peace and tranquility. Rob is very friendly and so are the dogs. Just make sure that you don't arrive after dark. Wish we lived closer!!
My husband and I spent our "mini-moon" at The Shire. The cabins are stunningly crafted, warm and cosy with real attention to detail. Each cabin has a small kitchen, living area, bedroom, shower room and deck out the front. We stayed in one of the cabins right on the river which even had an outdoor shower. There are great forest walks in the area with routes right from the cabins and if you need to pop into Stutterheim for supplies it's only about a 10-15 minute drive. The lodge is owner run and Rob went out of his way to get us into the riverside cottage on a busy long weekend. He also delivered fresh oranges from the orchard one morning! A really perfect weekend getaway - we will be back in the future.

This only allows me to definetly return to do all the things I set out to do when I first decided to visit. A true gem of a place!
Having spent a few days at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, we wanted to spend some time in Hogsback on our way back to Durban. Researching places to stay in the general area- I came across The Shire Eco Lodge in Stutterheim, about an hour and a half away from Hogsback. I was immediately attracted to it with it's intriguing design. I'm so glad we decided to spend 2 nights here. Living in a bubble of wood with everything you need, overlooking a beautiful forest just made our stay blissful! The design of each chalet is remarkable, but I really appreciated the crisp white sheets, sun corner, real coffee, spotless chalet, more than adequate kitchen goodies, and a beautiful space to just be. My only disappointment was that I had hoped that the chalet would have been…
