This place is a great place for a couple/group of friends who just want to relax and have some private time together. The rooms are very pleasant and welcoming. The view from the pool to the dam is exceptional. I recommend this to any couple, friends or family that want to relax and have a great time.

Very bad experience.

Booked Presidential suite but when we got to the hotel to check was booked to someone else. We were forced to take another room without any discount or apology. No help with the luggage initially. We accompanied an elderly couple and had to search for their room. It was only after 14h25 that our room was ready despite them stating an earlier check in time. Upon arrival at the room it still wasn't ready. The couple accompanying us had a problem with their television right after arriving at the room and later the evening they had a partial power outage which lasted for hours.
The aircon in our room was not functioning properly and had it not been for the sliding doors in our room we would have been in trouble. After dinner we were billed despite given our room number beforhand. We booked and payed for dinner, bed and breakfast. It was only rectified later.
We were regulars for the past 3 years but no more.
We stayed in room 105 from 24 - 26 December 2017

It is heyday I am sure that this was the place to be. Today, it feels worn out. Some rooms have been refurbished, but the tennis courts are falling to pieces, the heated swimming pool is cold, the carpets are worn. The hiking trail is closed - apparently there are too many buffaloes, elands, rhinos. The views are spectacular - the big sky as it is called.

Highly disappointed in the quality!!!! It has so much potential.
Staff are extremely neverminded, ceilings are falling in, the walls have wholes in them, everything is cracked and old! Pool chairs are falling in, nothing works!!
Absolutely disappointed in this place, no wonder my fiancé and I were the only guests there!

Service needs improvement, staff needs hospitality training. They are good people, just not trained well enough for this environment. Otherwise a great experience and acceptable facilities for a short couples, single or business breakaway. Not ideal for family holiday.

Let me say off the bat that the Black Mountain Hotel's decor was probably top of the line in 1984. Sure some furnishings are showing their wear but to me, that's part of the charm. The hotel is situated in the most stunning desert location, surrounded by a nature reserve. The restaurant is surprisingly good (although also 80s inspired). The staff are friendly and attentive. The rooms are huge and comfortable. There's a pool, a cinema room... You see where I'm going. If you ever find you on this part of the world, this is the place to stay.

Do you have internet access?
Answer from Deborah P
2050kids is a nonprofit exploring the possiblity of a project in Thaba-Nchu which would engage community members in building cookstoves from reused cans. We are wondering if you could let us know if you prepare your food from large cans which measure around 15cm X 15cm? We are also looking for cans which are 7cm x 11cm
