We are an Australian family of 5 who visited Buffelsfontein in early Feb 2023 for 3 days. We were fortunate and very lucky to experience the birth of a baby Giraffe whilst undertaking an afternoon Game Drive. What an experience!! Our 3 days there were just wonderful and one of the best experiences we have ever had. The accommodation was great, the food was delicious, and the staff so helpful, We would thoroughly recommend a night or two at this Nature Reserve.

The staff were very nice. The game drives were good, we saw plenty of animals. They don't have certain animals like Hyena and elephants but there was still a good variety of other animals too see, including lions. These were enclosed meaning the buck and other animals were safe. We enjoyed the food and the pub and pool area. Housekeeping was poor though as we were plagued by some sort of mite or bird lice in our beds keeping us awake. We found that it was filthy under the beds and the curtains were very dirty.

We stayed here on a week night at the self catering cottages - they were lovely and on top of the hill. We saw giraffe come near the park at dusk which was magical. Worth doing the full tour and the staff were friendly. I didn’t eat dinner at the restaurant, but breakfast wasn’t very nice so pack a few extra croissants and jam.

Stayed in a luxury cottage full board - which includes 3 meals and a game drive. Not cheap but not horribly expensive by local standards. The cottage was really nice, good views (over a water hole - although not full of game but didn't expect that). Loads of free stuff in the fridge, clean, and a good size. TV was very limited, and there was no free internet in the room, but the fixtures and fittings were good.

However, let down badly first off by service generally and then by the restaurant. Both seem more suited to the daily throughput of as many people as they can handle, and not to the overnight stayers. Food was mediocre for the price and service sloppy. Guided tour was advertised as 3 hours but was only 2 and a half. First third was good - saw quite a lot of animals, second third saw nothing - third was showing animals in cages - interesting but not really a 'drive'. Guide seemed to be a bit racist about the Chinese (who weren't!) on the tour.

As we left reception was abrupt and functional - nobody bothered to ask if we enjoyed. No feedback forms, no interest. All in all it felt like a get them in and then get them out sort of place. We were there 3 years ago just for the game drive and enjoyed it much more - so maybe it is just the staying that is not good.
