We stayed for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had informed the host team about having an injured ankle just a few days before our trip, so they prepared two possible villas for me - one much nearer to the lobby and the original villa, which had a nicer view. We decided on the original villa.

Their only elevator was under maintenance at the time, so I had to hike slowly all the way there with some help. Thankfully, the villa/bale was so beautiful and self-sufficient that I really didn't feel like I was missing out on anything by staying in. I was happily sitting by our private pool, enjoying the view of the rice terraces and taking photos of birds and other creatures flying past us or even paying us a visit.

The food at the restaurant was amazing. Listening to the excellent staff explaining in detail how each dish is prepared and where the ingredients came from, was an experience in itself. They also remembered our food allergies and made accommodations for us. Back at the bale, ordering food and other services was convenient using WhatsApp or the smartphone provided. Someone even escorted me to the restaurant when it got dark, to make sure I didn't fall.

Finally, it was time to leave. I was expecting a very long and arduous hike up to the lobby, but was surprised to see four strong men arrive to carry me there on a stretcher! That was an experience in itself. I waved goodbye to other friendly staff and guests on my way out.

All in all, I would highly recommend Buahan for an unforgettable experience. Ideally, please come with a fully functioning pair of legs and good walking shoes! Many pathways are on uneven ground. You can also take part in an activity every morning, e.g. visiting a waterfall.

Thanks to all the staff who waited on us, and went out of their way to accommodate us: Arda, Edik, Budiana, Budiarta, Sukariyasa, Dirga, dewa, Ketut, Ratni, Surya, Olive, Gusti, Ekan, Pipit.

The Buahan Tree Escape was breathtaking, serene, and luxury. All of the staff was extremely welcoming and accommodating from the time we landed in Bali throughout out stay and departure. One of the most refreshing experiences was waking up in the morning. We stayed in the Valley Bali “suite” overlooking the treetops of the forest green jungle with a direct view of the seven mountain peaks which placed us nearly eye level to the clouds.

The Bali “suite” setup is 360 degrees open to the outdoors. The bathroom is equipped with double shower heads and a deep vintage copper tub that sits nearly on the deck so you can soak with the best view. Turndown service is available upon request and the king size ceiling to floor canopy bed has “evening breeze” technology. Although the nights were cool, the evening breeze ensured we kept the temperature at our desired level.

The food was immaculate! The use of local herbs, fruits, and harvest was evident in the quality taste and creativity of each dish prepared for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The kitchen offered a set course menu, but a traditional menu selection was available as well. We ordered duck for dinner and it was prepared and cooked to perfection!

For 90% of the trip, we remained onsite and relaxed by the communal resort style pool, suite pool and cabana, hiked down to the waterfall, mingled in the “living room” restaurant, and got a zen yoga experience! The waterfall hike is a must!

The spa was equally calming as any other part of the property, opened to the jungle valley and you can hear the waterfall because it’s located at the lower level of the resort. The masseuse was very professional and did an excellent job!

The energy, spiritual connection, and divinity flows from the foundation of the resort to the chef’s dishes and waiter’s smiles. Every single person was impactful in this life changing experience/ vacation :). I defiantly hope to return in 5 years or sooner to see how the planted trees have developed and grown.

~Your first Bapak and Ibu guest 🤎

Nothing short of spectacular!

One of the most unique places on earth to spend an evening. We had a fabulous time.

The occasion was our 10th anniversary, thank you Susi and all the team for making it a special time.

We travelled North and around the coast via Lovina to spend the evening here. We would recommend other visitors do this if you are centrally located as we found the drive a bit more comfortable and accessible. We have taken southern roads before and the travel time is longer in our opinion.

There is a narrow private access road into Buhan which is charming and the facilities are very private and secluded. We loved this.

On site the surroundings are stunning and this is a gross understatement. The vibe comes with a true Balinese cultural service experience we cannot praise all the staff enough.

What we would typically expect from a hotel lobby, reception experience is something entirely different here. It redefines this experience for a guest. You have to go there to experience it first hand. There is no obvious defined lobby or reception as such the whole experience is tour in stages and makes for a very warm hospitable experience.

The accommodation is nothing short of dream worthy. Photos do not it justice no matter how impressive the photography. Be prepparred for a complete outdoor experience in complete privacy. The Treetop construction is both fascinating and uplifting to experience. The private pool and adjacent resting cabano areas are perfect for chilling out and lazing around. In the evening we sat by the fire pit and the guest team prepparred all the bamboo screening and internal nets (for those scared of the local wildlife). In that respect, despite the obvious outdoor venue there is very little of this for anyone with any concerns.
We were also extremely impressed with the level of overall material finish, like the sanitaryware, showers, bath etc. Whilst this is undoubtedly a luxury experience nothing has been short cut.

During our stay the staff explained that they only use locally sourced foods and maintain the grounds with local made items rather than chemical pesticides. All efforts seem very focused on a sustainable service and clean maintenance approach. The culinary food experience at the evening dinner is to die for, I had fish and my wife had chicken. Any additions are very reasonably priced also, we had breakfast in the treetop for example and also had some drinks at the bar.

If you are in Bali looking for a very unique experience, as we did then look no further. We can highly recommend and will be back.

One of the key reasons for my fiance and my visit to Bali was due to finding out about this unique experience/retreat. On arrival, we were floored by the amazingly unparalleled views that was not only naturally breathtaking but served as a stark contrast to our day to day of living in the hustle and bustle of a typical metropolitan city.

To top things off was the supremely warm and family-like treatment we were given by our butler, Budi and his team of 'Supermen' and 'Superwomen' (rightfully dubbed so because of their multitasking and multitalented ability to be serving as our butler/concierge at one point of time, to being our server and at times even part of the housekeeping crew if need be at the next). We sincerely appreciate the top-notch service given to us; never was there a dull nor quiet moment as every single staff member in the residence was well versed in conversation and was very willing to partake even if we were just simply passing by. Everyone was courteous, friendly and polite to a fault. To offer a comparison to this would be as if you were staying in a local 'homestay' experience but with all the luxuries, amenities and services that is offered by a 5 star hotel.

Our rooms were impeccably clean but with the occasional spiderwebs or bugs; we do understand though as such are the perils of staying in such a natural environment... Everything though, was kept in very and tip-top clean condition by the entirety of the cleaning crew. Dinner and breakfast served was not only healthy and natural (pretty much all of the ingredients save a few were harvested from the vicinity of the residences where they're grown) but also overwhelmingly delicious especially when comparing it to typical hotel standards.

Our experience there was pretty much perfect. Do note that because of the location and the structure of the whole residence you'll be exposed to the sounds of nature, mainly the sounds of the animals throughout the night (some more calming and relaxing while some a little more aggressive). We were quite unfortunate to have been disturbed by a feral wild cat that constantly circled our villa after having made our area more or less it's home. If you are not a fan of the perils of such a natural environment, you will need to prep yourself.

What a dream it was to visit this piece of paradise just outside of Ubud. every moment was special and unique. We stayed for two nights and got to experience a deeper connection to Bali, its villages, nature, and people. At Buahan you are welcomed as part of the family and it is true, you feel like you are at home.

The kitchen was of the highest caliber. It is an open concept so that you can walk right in and see how the dishes are prepared. The food itself and every cocktail were outstanding, without a doubt the best we've had in Bali. The kitchen is run by Eka, an internationally trained chef who grew up in this region and approaches every ingredient with love and understanding. Each leaf and flower is placed with purpose so that every bite is filled with flavours and textures that never cease to amaze. Eka took us into the nearby village to visit the farmers and teach us how everything is grown, foraged, and prepared. We had the opportunity to taste a multitude of spectacular fruits, dishes, and worms! Yes, worms. I enjoyed this, but it's not for everyone. After that was the cooking class and then lunch. Each moment unforgettable.

On sight were also daily yoga classes, a private waterfall, tours of the rice paddy, and endless possibilities. The room itself was the most beautiful and peaceful I've seen in Bali. If I could rate this property 10 stars I would.

Thank you Puspa for this marvelous time and I am already looking forward to my return.

My experience staying at Buahan has made me feel like my previous 5 star reviews for other places have all been overrated. The Buahan team have absolutely set a new standard for hospitality and what they've created is something that they should all be incredibly proud of. The food, drinks and in particular the service was nothing short of impeccable!

Every possible detail was covered and the team were one of the most accommodating that I have ever experienced.
The 'no-walls, no-doors' concept is unique yet so well executed with all the comfort you would expect of a 5 star resort. We were a bit unsure how it would be leading up to our stay, there's definitely all sorts of bugs around of course, but the rooms are set up in a way that they don't bother you in the slightest.

I couldn't write this review without making specific mention of the food! It was absolutely incredible with every meal being a unique experience with fresh local ingredients that I often found myself thinking wouldn't go well together, yet we were repeatedly surprised by the most amazing dishes at every meal. There was nothing that I didn't like nor was there anything that I thought just tasted average, it was all incredible.
The portions appear small when they come out but we left feeling completely content with each meal and repeatedly shocked at the incredible dining experience. The same can be said for the cocktails which were all truly unique and delicious.

Literally the only complaint that I could think of is that the villa pools were quite cold but that didn't stop us from having an amazing stay and dipping our toes in.

We had an incredible honeymoon stay here and will be recommending Buahan to anyone who will listen when we return to Perth. I'm writing this review whilst sitting in our pool villa in a well known 5 star hotel in Seminyak at a similar price point. The experience we're having here has got nothing on our stay at Buahan!

We would particularly like to thank Puspa, Arsana, Ollie, Riska and Budi. There were too many amazing staff that made our stay special to name you all but thankyou so much for an amazing honeymoon and for making our stay so special. It's something that we'll remember for a long time.

We look forward to getting back there one day soon.

My husband and I booked a trip to this resort after we saw it online and saw how unique it looked. Wow! We had such an INCREDIBLE experience. Staff was SO professional and friendly. The service was outstanding and they made us feel so special and welcomed. The staff memorized our names from the moment we stepped out of the car to the day we left. The resort was lush and exotic. We stayed in room 16 (The Riverside Jungle Pool Bale) and it was perfect and private. Every detail in the room was considered, from hats, raincoats, to bug spray and sunscreen. Our bale was the closest to the waterfall so we really enjoyed walking there in the mornings. We were happy with how open the bale is and how there were plenty of drapes and curtains for protection at night. You will see bugs but we never experienced any in the sleeping area. The high powered AC/fan over the bed kept us nice and cool at night. The cell phone in the room was clever and helped us get around and communicate with staff. The resort is very peaceful when it rains but rocks can get super slippery and you will get a little wet so be careful when walking around. The yoga classes were perfect (thank you Made and Jana). We also did a few activities such as the foraging with mixologist Rudi and Rice Lift Trekking. We really enjoyed both. The guides were excellent and even helped us take photos. The ladies at the spa gave the best massages. I enjoyed that there were 4 different spa massage areas. Therapists Yanti, Koming, and Katek were amazing. We really enjoyed the Island Pijat massages. Dining at the resort was interesting but in a good way. Breakfast had a nice variety of fresh foods and drinks. Dinner changed daily and we enjoyed trying unique new combinations. Food was very fresh and the best part was knowing most was grown right on the property. Riska and Ir were great servers! One of the best parts about the resort is that each staff member has several roles so everyone is willing to help you. Olive was an amazing host and did a great job coordinating all of our needs. Other memorable staff was Yana, Budi, and June. Thank you everyone for such an incredible trip. The tree planting ceremony was also such a special treat and we can't wait to come back and visit our guava tree! Overall we were extremely happy with our experience and could not thank the amazing staff enough!

The experience to stay in a room without a wall is very unique to me. It feels like camping in nature but with all the comfort of 5 stars hotel. The hotel gives attention to details such as special coffees in the room, the aromatherapy, the fire pit in the room, comfortable toilet, and the prompt of services. But the highlight of my stay there is the food that is prepared by a very lovely chef named Chef Eka and his team. All the food I ate there are very special. They came in small small portions for breakfast and dinner with very special presentation and very delicious taste. When we were about to leave the resort, Chef Eka was waiting for us to thank us and he even gave us a tour to his garden. We are very impressed by his hospitality. We will come back definitely for the food especially 😄😄❤️

We stayed for 3 nights and each night we had a little treat in our room waiting for us - a little chocolate or something sweet. The rooms were clean, the hot water was a good temperature and the staff were so so helpful. A huge thank you to Riska, Sori-ya, Olive, and Bodi for being so great at dinner and breakfast each day. I didn’t get to catch the names of the two massooses but they were exceptional too. The scenery was beautiful the grounds were well maintained and the privacy was perfect for a honeymoon couple. Even though it was out in wildlife we never felt unsafe. The whole stay was thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you!

I knew booking our five-day stay at Buahan would be an adventure and wasn't sure just what to expect from the villa without walls in the Bali jungle but it was a unique, very relaxing and memorable experience. Highly-recommended. My husband and I are both city guys so this was really a big change for us but the welcoming staff at Buahan makes it easy to adjust as do the amazing views and gorgeous surroundings. The villas without walls are not exactly roughing it but you're definitely out there in the middle of nature. There are bugs (not too bothersome), the occasional lizard strolls past and you fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the birds and animals outside your villa. The location is stunningly beautiful and great care has been taken in the design of the villas and adapting the buildings to the natural surroundings. Meals are served in a pavillion on top of the hill, we enjoyed the workout of heading up and down three times a day but you may want to request a villa nearby the dining if that was an issue. We had a couples massage on the property (highly recommended for the service and beautiful setting), trekked to the nearby waterfall and rice terraces, but otherwise spent the entire time relaxing at the very private villa (our #15 seemed especially private with great views) and pool overlooking the jungle valley. You can hear the waterfall each night as you fall asleep. Meals were exceptionally well-prepared, healthy, delicious and served with a warm welcoming smile. The menu is creative and each dish is beautifully presented and served with a smile. It takes about a day to get accustomed to the Buahan experience and feel comfortable so be sure to give it enough time and you'll be richly rewarded with a lot of wonderful memories.

)Note that the "inclinator" mentioned in some of the earlier reviews is no longer operational so being able to walk extensively and climb outdoor staircases would be important part of making for an enjoyable stay here.)

Yes. It is over the bed and works well. Obviously every room has ‘no walls’ so you don’t get an air conditioned room, but for sleeping it is quiet and efficient.

not noisy at all, it rained when I was there and it was blissful. Watching the landscape change is like watching a work of art unfold.
