The little town of Oviston has much to commend it with amazing personalized prefab houses and succulent gardens, solitude and views that I would never have got tired of. Even on the edge of so much water it was still a bit brown in September, but Lakeview B/B was one of my best choices on this holiday. It was friendly, comfortable, with excellent breakfasts served hot by the ever resourceful Murray.

It is a vast prefab building( everything in Oviston is prefab as far as I can make out) but this was NOT grotty nor like our classrooms at school which were cold, drafty and bleak. Lakeview house was well decorated, filled with fascinating odds and ends collected over the years by unknown people. And some pottery which made me as a potter, want to reproduce. The rooms were huge, warm( for the cold nights) but also fitted with ceiling fans for the hot nights to come, well furnished and everything you could want in the house was there. We had free range of the kitchen, and could have self catered if we wanted, but a Couple in the village will cook a tasty evening meal, and provide huge bottles of beer (apparently shabeen size), if given some notice that this is wanted.

The first night we were there, we shared the house with 2 other women, but the 2nd night we were on our own. The owner lives in the village not far away.

While we were there, sadly the nature reserve were culling and so not open during the week, which was a bit of a bind, but we filled our days doing other things like sight seeing in the area. had it been hotter, I expect we would have taken a boat out onto the dam.

The only draw back, for some is the B/B is not on the waters edge, but for me the height made the views all the nicer.
