Firstly I have to say WOW! Havodda is just stunning! A piece of paradise that we’ve been dreaming about since coming home. It was every bit as good as we hoped and more!

We stayed 9 nights (Nov 8-17), flew direct in economy with BA from Heathrow. Our package was full board but were upgraded to all Inclusive by Trailfinders for booking early. We got a decent deal that sadly we probably won’t get close to again because of Covid times.

Our first time in The Maldives, so bear in mind although we’re well traveled we have nothing to compare this to in these parts. I consider us middle of the road travellers, usually go for cosy 3-4 star hotels and definitely aren’t “butler types”.

The journey: As others have already said it’s a mission getting here, but is it worth it? 100% absolutely! Taking us roughly 16 hours after taking off on the way out and 18 hours on the way back.

But first let’s talk about Male International Airport. This place is awful, one of the worst airports we’ve been to. Expect queues, chaos, pushing in, people kicking off about it and staff just to shrugging their shoulders and that’s even before getting into the terminal.

I realise there’s security risks here but it can be done much better than THIS because we’ve seen it. This is a luxury destination but this airport is anything but. Just prepare yourselves.

Right, that’s my only moan out of the way (Obviously nothing to do with Amari though).

Make sure you fill in the online UMIGA declaration within 96 hours of your flight both directions and have the QR Code handy on your phone (I did a screen grab) they will ask to see it at passport control. We also had our NHS Covid pass but weren’t interested in that. Don’t stress about the visa on arrival (if you’re from The UK) it’s just a passport stamp, doesn’t cost anything, and nobody even mentions it.

Once we collected our bags there was an Amari staff member waiting for us, we had to wait 5 mins for another couple to turn up. Then we were taken to check-in for the next flight and had it all handled for us, a nice touch.

Sadly this was not the case on the way back when we were basically dumped at a queue, with no other info. Another couple who were from Amari went straight through but we ended up drawing the short straw and queueing for an hour to get into the building. Amari management take note; this part of the holiday experience needs some work, it’s still part of our stay until we’re actually on the international flight, so I am judging this as so.

Back to the journey in. We were taken to the lounge, there were free drinks and food but by the time we changed into shorts and freshened up in the toilets we were literally told our flight was boarding. So with a quick sip of our diet cokes we were off again.

Our next flight was 1hr 10m on a much smaller plane. Great views of many islands the whole way. When we landed it we were told it was the first of two stops, luckily this was Havodda’s.

Into the tiny terminal building and there was another Amari staff member waiting for us. He directed us to a golf buggy, we didn’t collect our luggage, they took care of it. There was some waiting around because there were 16 people going on the speed boat to the island and it took two buggies to get everyone there. Life jackets were given out which was good to see.

Check in: We arrived on Havodda after a very speedy 15 min boat ride, in heavy rain which was a shame but it still looked like paradise. After a refreshing drink and a cold towel we filled in a couple of bits on a form. Then we were taken to our room in a golf buggy, I’m not sure if this still happens if it’s not raining but saved us getting wet. It was all so easy. Ayaz our host gave us the room tour.

Our room: WOW! This was honestly the nicest room we’ve ever stayed in. Absolutely superb. Large luxurious bedroom with a spectacular outside bathroom. And this was a standard beach villa without a pool. We needed nothing else and we slept so well here.

After exploring the whole island we realised our Beach villa 322 was in a fastastic location (for us) right next door to the Dive Centre and very private (and quiet), with a bush covered walkway down to a superb stretch of beach.

You have your own sunbeds on the villa terrace (which you can position as you please) which means nobody needs to get up early to reserve them… although unbelievably people still do that around the pool. No idea why.

There’s plenty of USB and British plug sockets in the room. No need for adapters if coming from the Uk.

We were on the Sunrise side, which is much the better side of the island in our opinion. If you’re going for a beach villa make sure you get one on The Sunrise side. The Sunset side is suffering from sea erosion. And in places there’s hardly any beach at all, with quite a few sandbags to tackle this sea erosion. The sea is rougher on that side too and for the 9 days we were there there was only one day calm enough to snorkel on that side, the red flag was almost ever present and it was generally pretty breezy too. I’m sure the water villas are great but I wouldn’t have enjoyed snorkelling off the steps there at this time.

The staff: Without exception absolutely lovely, everyone has a “hello!” or “morning!” in passing and they honestly can’t do enough for you. Also compared to other hotels we’ve been there seems to be enough staff and you’ll never wait more than a minute or two for anything. The service across the board was first class. Unobtrusive but was there as soon as you needed it. Just how we like it.

Food: The best all inclusive food we’ve had anywhere. I’ve seen comments on here about the food being bland. I just can’t understand how anyone could think that! It’s just not that type of food. And even if it’s not spicey enough there’s always all manner of chillis, sauces and condiments to spice it up or give it some extra flavour. The selection is decent without being huge, but is high quality food. Theres a heavily slanted Asian feel (unsurprising considering where it is) We never got bored of it once and always looked forward to meal times.

There were always curries, usually noodles, soups, several meats, fish, breads, potatoes of some kind, vegetables, salad, cakes, pastries and fruit. There’s several cooking stations which changed daily and there was usually a loose theme (without it ever being formally announced). Everything was clearly labelled.

Bar / drinks: A good selection of drinks overall for standard all inclusive, a couple of beers Carlsberg or Lion (which is Sri Lankan). A fair few cocktails and spirits. We were never refused anything and were happy with our choice.

If you’re debating about whether it’s worth going all inclusive over full board, it all depends how much alcohol you’ll drink and how much the upgrade would cost. On our first night we accidentally ordered the bill, thinking we had to sign for the drinks and our 3 small beers and two glasses of sparkling wine came to us$51 which is pretty expensive and would’ve soon added up for us if we were full board.

There’s also a Premium All Inclusive and from what we could tell there was a free cooking lesson with that (the people we spoke to raved about it to be fair) we didn’t think it would be worth paying the extra for us. After our first day, nobody asked for our room number in the bar(s) or the restaurant, they just seemed to know.

Weather: Hot and humid. For sun worshipers the weather wasn’t always the best. It’ll soon become clear why it’s all so lush and green and why the humidity is high. Personally I didn’t mind the frequent heavy downpours, it was good for some snorkelling time too. We had to wait until our third night to actually see a sunset from Thari bar which was a superb experience and highly recommended going there when you can. The weather improved as the week went on, in the last few days I don’t think we had any rain at all.

The island: I’ve seen my fair share of spectacular beaches but this will be the benchmark for all future holidays. Absolutely pristine / stunning and despite the number of people of the island it felt verging empty most of the time. I’m not sure where everyone went during the day! Everything was just so well kept. You just can’t stop taking photos, it’s so photogenic!

The other guests: A real mix, old, young, couples, a few families (the minority really). Lots of Germans, Brits, Scandinavians, Asians and a few Russians but not many. It was actually a really nice mix and everyone was there to chill out. This is a very low key island so any rowdy behaviour would really be noticed. But there was none of that at all.

Wildlife: Mainly birds, lizards, insects and crabs, nothing at all to worry about. There were also some huge fruit bats flying around the trees, very interesting to watch. Weirdly this time I got badly bitten by mosquitoes, I’m not usually bothered by them, I think this was because of the vegetation at the back of our villa. Best to deet up! I was also fascinated by crabs around the villa pathway and around the island in general.

Sealife: I’ll be honest, I’m a nervous swimmer, I can swim but I’ve spent my life avoiding going in the sea in case there’s sharks lurking. So swimming in the sea where there’s 26 types of shark didn’t feel me with confidence. But I have to say I loved it! I just took it easy, the reef starts in the shallows just a few meters off the beach, so there’s no reason to even go out of your depth but you’ll still see loads.

I was in the sea at least a couple of hours a day and nothing caused me (or my girlfriend) any problems. Stay out the way of the Triggerfish if you can though, they don’t seem to realise how small they are, or how big you are in comparison. I’d best describe them as irritable and over confident. You’ll see what I mean. By the way, the sharks completely avoid you, so don’t worry about them at all. Just make sure you take some water shoes with you.

We saw lots of Black tip reef sharks, a couple of Grey Reef Sharks, a baby Manta Ray, a couple of Eagle Rays, a turtle, an octopus, many many fish including a puffer fish, trigger fish and a large aggressive fish that darts out of the at other fish and scares the living daylights out of you when you’re snorkelling, but they do you no harm. Turtles were in short supply contrary to what we’d heard, but there seems to be one living off to the left of the arrival jetty as you face the sea. Even if you don’t snorkel you will still see loads from the beach or jetty’s, so don’t worry at all, you won’t miss out on anything if you don’t swim.

Spa: My girlfriend went to the spa a couple of times and said the treatments were among the best she’s ever had, she came out buzzing after the second one. Not sure what treatments she had but her message to everyone is; go for it it’s worth the money. Apparently if you go in the morning you get more time for your money too.

Tipping: if you want to change for tips at reception, they were happy to change my twenties for $1s. There didn’t seem to be any expectation of tips but I found staff really appreciated them and nice things tended to happen when you did. That wasn’t the reason to tip though, these guys work so hard and absolutely deserve it. It didn’t affect service one way or another, which was always first class. But we tipped Shabnaz “our room boy” who was awesome, and he left us a lovely floral surprise one day, including a bottle of Cava. Was so so nice of him. We also tipped the guys at the bars, there’s a tip box there that I gave them money for.

Overall: Congrats if you’ve made it this far, i never meant this to go on for so long but there’s so much to say about this fantastic island. This is luxury without being over the top. Absolute bliss away from everything. By day 2 you’ll stop bothering with shoes, day 3 you’ll forget what day it is altogether. And like us you’ll probably be dreaming of Havodda the moment you leave this little paradise. We will never forget this place and will definitely return given half the chance. Absolutely awesome on every level. Just book it, you won’t regret it.

Iain, London.

My wife and I had a great stay at Amari.
As my second time in the maldives, I can say that this hotel offers everything needed for a young couple on holiday/honeymoon.

The Island is well maintained, the beaches are clean, and most importantly for me: good snorkeling and diving is available directly from the beach. (East part of the island)
Rooms are very clean and luxurious. Both on the water and beaches the bathrooms are "outside", giving it a special feeling.
We were lucky enough to book one of the two water villas with private pool. I can suggest booking these, not just because of the pool, but because they offer more privacy due to their location, and the platform outside is much bigger.

The service is very friendly. Genuinely friendly bar keepers, restaurant service staff, receptionists, etc.
A remarkable bonus was, that following a nice conversation with one of the cooks, my wife was served a special indian dish, which had not been part of the buffet.

Diving and snorkeling: The Island is suited for snorkeling from the beach, mainly in the east side of the island. Sadly coral dying is a factor here already. But it is still great and many nice fish can be seen. Small black tip sharks can be seen nearly everytime you enter the water, as they patrol the shallow parts of the island. Turtles and octopuss are also present.
The euro divers scuba school offers many different dive sites that can be visited daily. A Highlight is the dive at the airport, as it's a channel between the islands with currents. Bigger fish can be seen here. (Many sharks, Napoleon, Manta maybe). Unfortunately the diving in the maldives is quite expensive, especially if you need to rent most of the equipment. But still worth the diving experience.

In general we fully enjoyed our stay at amari and can recommend it. Especially for a honeymoon.

Dear alexkK4872CR, Greetings from Amari Havodda Maldives, Thank you for giving us a perfect rating and for recommending our resort to other travelers. I am sure that the team enjoyed catering to your needs as much as you enjoyed your stay. With regards to the snorkeling, we have almost 1.6 kms of reef and I agree that the east side between the service jetty and the ember beach has the best spots for turtles and other colorful fish. These are the days for schools of eagle rays and massive parrot fish adding to the color. In Spite of the rise in temperature, we see the coral growth in the past few years in comparison to where we started. We have even spotted new coral growth this week. We hope these memories are an opportunity for your return visit to us soon. Warm Regards, Shihalini Rajaratnam Manager - Front Office

This was our second stay at the resort over Christmas again. The resort has been further enhanced during the close for Covid, lots of new planting on the island, the addition of a herb garden, and general refurbishment work on villas. Small changes to internal transit and arrival have also improved things. The staff were fantastic again, but even more so because they have been isolated for so long during the closure and were really pleased to see guests return. We stayed in one of the two overwater villas with pools again, and it was as good as last year in terms of the accommodation and facilities of the villa, the only thing that was a struggle, was that although we were on the premium all inclusive plan, you still only get the standard quantity of drinks added to your mini bar each day (4 small cans of soda, and 2 cans of beer), which, when you have multiple days of 30-35 degree heat is not sufficient, and to keep having to walk back and forth to the bar from the furthest point from the bar is not practical, just to get a drink, having your own pool on the villa means you don't have to go to the communal pool or beach. The guy who cleaned our room (Shabaaz) was particularly good, all the staff were amazing, but he went beyond that, decorating or room for arrival, Christmas Eve, and the day before we left and making sure we had towels for the pool and constantly chasing up housekeeping to top up the mini bar with the drinks we actually wanted (albeit still within the standard quantities).

On arrival we were generously upgraded to a deluxe beachfront villa with a secluded freshwater plunge pool. In over 50 years worldwide travelling it was the best accommodation that I had experienced.

The resort is an immaculately kept coral island with lush vegetation. It is small and can be walked around in half an hour.

From the moment we docked Hassan looked after us personally and catered for our every need. All staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful.

In our all inclusive package we knew that only buffet meals were included. Alternative dining in the small Ember Grill was expensive (allow US$100 per head) and even the beach barbecues required a considerable supplement. As buffets go it was not too bad but after 12 days, 36 visits were too much. There were cooking stations but apart from eggs at breakfast most just pre-cooked the food and put it on the side. Another disappointment was the lack of an effective dress code, which meant that dining in the evening was not special. Soon after we arrived, I mentioned these points in a solicited survey and we were promptly invited to take a complimentary meal in the Ember Grill. That is real customer care.

The island has a home reef with much coral still alive and there were many colourful fish for a snorkeller to enjoy. My wife and I could not join any of the Dive Centre excursions because, like many, we use full-face masks and these were considered hazardous. In fairness, standard equipment was available free of charge. Often the sea was choppy and then snorkelling was only possible on the sunset side of the island.

My comments about dining and snorkelling are probably not typical and I am sure that many will find the resort idyllic. The resort tries very hard to please.

We stayed at Amari for 10 days during our honeymoon and booked the all inclusive package.
The organization of our transport from Male airport was smooth, we even had the chance to get an earlier connection flight so we didn't have to wait too long.

When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted warmly and got some refreshments while settling the arrival documentation.
After that our host Hassan showed us our villa and the rest of the island.
He was very quick in responding to every question during our stay - I really don't know if he ever sleeps.

We stayed in a sunset Beach villa which was very clean and well maintained. We had a little semi-private beach area in front of the villa before we reached the main beach. So privacy was kept at all times.
Room service was very attentive - e.g. as soon as they saw that we preferred a certain coffee there was always plenty of it in our room.

The island itself is surrounded by a beautiful sand beach which was clean and sometimes nearly empty.

Snorkeling was fun and you could see a lot of wildlife just by looking down from the jetty.
Food was served in the main restaurant as buffet. The variety reached from Indish, local, Italian to different seafood dishes. Although we usually prefer set menus over buffet we were totally content with the taste and the freshness of the food. We never missed anything. The waiters were quick in refilling whatever drink you had😊

A special thanks goes to Hanna from the dive center who really took me from afraid to dive to feeling comfortable under water which is such a beautiful thing to experience.
Also wake boarding with Solaa was a lot of fun.
Prices for water sports are reasonable in comparison to other resorts we've been to which was another plus.

We felt more than comfortable during our stay and can recommend Amari without hesitation.

Where do I start, well this has become our second home, it was our 5th visit to this beautiful island and Covid was not going to keep us away. We had our test within 96 hours pre departure from the UK. You have submit a health declaration online to the Maldivian government within 24 hours of landing in Maldives. We were a little anxious, but needn’t have been, everything ran like clockwork so PLEASE PLEASE don’t let this put you off. When you arrive at Male you are met by an Amari representative who takes you to the Lounge where you await your domestic flight, you can grab a bite to eat and shower if need be. You arrive on the island by a short 10 minute which is great fun, once on the island you are then met by the Amari team but more importantly your host for the duration of your stay, your host is there to ensure your stay is the most memorable holiday, nothing too much trouble. The beaches are stunning, we loved to walk around the island on the waters edge, often the reef sharks would follow us around. As we were celebrating a belated 50th birthday and our first wedding anniversary we upgraded for a few nights to the Water Villa Pool Suite, oh my goodness I was lost for words, it was stunning but to be fair which ever Villa you choose you won’t be disappointed as they are all very special. We snorkelled most days but we noticed this time the coral had recovered dramatically! Probably the best house reef we have seen, whenever you go out you will see an array of fish, eagle rays, sting rays and turtles, all within a few metres from the beach. The island is pristine and during lockdown all the staff have worked very hard with a lot of cutting back and new planting. You may ask why go back so many times, this is an easy question to answer, obviously apart from being the most stunning island you will probably ever visit, the outstanding food, the impeccable service, it’s the STAFF. They work tirelessly to ensure your stay is one you will never forget and they are genuine. Most are now friends. Our host Hassan is the funniest guy, he had us in stitches. Murooj another one of the hosts always stopped to have a chat again funny guy. Special shout out to the bar guys, Maxie, Febin, Lakmal, Faruhan, Buddha and Santhosh, all are so interactive with the guests. In the restaurant you will be met with a smile morning, noon and night, thank you to Vikas, Dada, Rajesh, Aman, and especially Saeed. We enjoyed a surprise afternoon tea curtesy Of Chef Anand, we even came home we lots of recipes for the fabulous curries he made for us. Finally the lady who I think is Miss Amari, Shi, thank you so much. Alex you should be very proud of all your staff. ❤️

It takes another flight and speedboat to get here from Male but the staff make it as easy as possible by meeting you in Male arrivals, for checking in your luggage for you, providing lounge access, collecting your bags at the other side etc.
We arrived at 7:30pm after a full day of traveling and they kindly allowed us to go eat dinner and go to bed and then sort our payment etc for the stay the following morning instead of immediately on arrival.
The overwater villas are STUNNING and we thought so worth it! The steps go directly into the water and there is a lovely net hammock over the water to chill in.
The hotel provides snorkeling equipment for free upon collection from the dive center.
The food was very nice with good gluten free options at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
They gave us a lovely surprise the last night with a bottle of sparkling wine set up for us when we returned from dinner (image attached) which we really appreciated!
While waiting for our speedboat at check out they allowed us to go wait in the bar with a cocktail despite the fact that technically our all inclusive was over and we were checked out.
The attention to detail was phenomenal, all staff were incredibly accommodating for-seeing any problems you might and preempting them.
I can’t give a single recommendation of improvement because it was literally a flawless stay in absolute paradise!

The amari havodda is truly stunning visually however I believe what really makes this place special is the team of very dedicated staff. They are happy to see you, happy to serve you, happy to go out of their way to ensure everything is to your liking.

The rooms are cleaned to a very high standard evidence of sanitation on arrival. Beautiful floral displays to mark our anniversary ❤️. There are stocks of shower gel shampoo and conditioner also detergent, sowing kits and shower caps. Mini fridge is filled everyday with 2 cola 2 sprite and 2 beers along with bottled water, I loved that they did not use plastic. Robes and slippers are also provided. I had a minor issue with ants in the bathroom which is outdoor and beautiful, one text to our host Aalaf and it was sorted within the hour.

Food is excellent with plenty of choice and again very helpful chefs and waiters who will be more than happy to assist you if you require. The young chef with the glasses (forgot the name sorry) was so so helpful both at breakfast on the egg station and in the evenings with cooking meat to your liking. We booked the beach barbecue and a meal in Ember grill as it happened weather didn't play ball for the bbq and we ended up in Ember grill which was lovely. The Ember grill meal is a feast for the senses and honestly was one of our highlights, it was a few quid extra but worth every penny, lobster and Champagne by the sea, cold refreshing lemon oil cloths gentle sea breeze soft music and attentive staff under a star lit sky, everyone should have this experience once in their life. The pizza kage by the pool makes the most beautiful fresh pizza and offers an alternative to lunch in the restaurant Mahabub was excellent in assisting with choices and ideas. The pool bar staff are very pleasant and make beautiful cocktails 🍸.

There are lots of activities to do including snorkeling scuba diving and sunset dolphin cruises there is a small gym with equipment for a decent workout, badminton, tennis and volleyball are also available. The spa has a wide variety of treatments I had a foot massage with tyga and it was so relaxing and professionally delivered. The photographer is excellent we booked a package and so glad we did. The photographer was very relaxed and allowed us to have an input into the type of photos he gave us plenty of time never rushed and we enjoyed learning a bit about the maldives from him.

Aalaf our host was always on hand to help out he managed the balance of being on hand but not intruding on your holiday perfectly. Thank you for everything Aalaf. Amari is a place we are going remember forever and recommend without hesitation. Thank you beautiful Amari

This was our 5th holiday in the Maldives and never before have we entered such a luxurious island. The welcome at the jetty was very warm and the short formalities were quickly taken care of by our host Parsaenna. We stayed at Sunset Beach Poool Villa 215, the bungalow is equipped with everything you could wish for and the views of the Indian Ocean over the white sand and the green border were just fantastic. Everywhere we met the friendliness of the staff and the high service readiness. The buffet was very diversified, international, very tasty and very nicely presented.

We wanted to know more about sustainability and visited the interior of the island where all the many people do the work, that there is always enough clean water, electricity and clean laundry. We discovered amazing things, many other resorts (and tourists) could learn something here.
We can unreservedly recommend a holiday in this exemplarily managed island. We thank the whole team for giving us an unforgettable holiday.
Heinz F. and Esti F.

Firstly we cannot understand how anyone can give Amarmi Havodda anything less than five star.
My wife and I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this ranks absolutely the best by far.
It really is out if this world.
The rooms are sumptuous, (we had a sunset beach pool villa) cleaned twice a day (without fail). Bed linen changed every 2 days, you can request daily changes if you desire. The bathroom is palatial, an inside shower, an outside shower, a huge freestanding bath, twin sinks and a wc.
An abundance of clean towels (bath room towels changed twice a day) clean beach towels left in the room. And pool towels available poolside.
The staff go above and beyond. Every single member of staff, from bar staff, gardeners, waiters, cleaners, EVERYONE, are so friendly and will move mountains to make your stay unforgettable. They clearly love what they do!
What can we say about food... every meal was a dining extravaganza. So much choice and good quality. The eggs benedict made by the egg chefs on a morning were a real treat! There was a multitude of fresh fruit and salad on offer at every meal. Along with more calorific options 😋.
Even the fussiest of eaters wouldn't struggle. (The chefs would rustle something up you asked them)
Nothing was ever too much trouble.
We had done our research realised the island was remote, and would require another domestic flight (with a wait) and a speedboat. To us it wasn't a problem, you have a private lounge to wait in at Male airport, where food and drink is available.
But it is absolutely worth the slightly longer journey time.
The house reef has plenty of interesting sealife amongst it, we saw wrays, sharks, parrot fish, watch out for the vicious bad temperatured trigger fish! 🤣
It was a lovely touch that the very pleasant general manager would mingle and chat to guests. He is clearly very proud of every member of his staff, and the resort. And so he should be!
You can't please all of the people all of the time. But the staff here will do their absolute upmost to ensure your stay is perfect.
We re booked to return next year... 😊

We flew in January 2024. First legs with Gulf Air with allowances 23kg hold luggage with one cabin bag at 7kg plus one personal bag (unspecified weight). The Maldivian Air allowance was 20kg hold baggage and 5kg cabin baggage. Our hold luggage was weighed but our cabin baggage was not. We packed our hold baggage against the lower limit. Not sure if anything has changed but I was fine on Maldivian with a rucksack (it actually weighed 7kg) plus a small camera bag. Nobody questioned it. I hope that helps.
