I'm convinced the person who wrote the bad review must have been to a different hotel. We have stayed at Ca l' Americano six times in every season now and it is consistently fabulous. We are also very discerning as we used to run a niche website discovering small and special places to stay off the beaten track and only the best that met our strict criteria made it to our recommend list. Even through we closed our website, this is a place we continue to visit as one of our top favourites. Our most recent visit was in February 2013 and it was the only weekend it has snowed. We decided to go anyway, and had a great time. The family who run this place are true professionals. They know what good service means and serve up the most mouthwatering food. I still dream about my next visit. Another amazing thing about this place is the small but perfectly formed wine list that caters for all pockets. Each wine is carefully tried, tested and approved by the family before it gets on the list and they have some excellent wines. Like the hotel, La llacuna itself is a hidden gem. A small 'pueblo' nestling in lovely countryside not far from the vineyards of Penedes, it's a haven to explore the surrounding area for walkers, runners, cyclists or just to chill out over a drink in the pretty square. If you go, try '3 negres' - the gorgeous local red wine. I would say this is a perfect place to go for lovers of good food, wine and generally for a great break. They have immaculate apartments or double rooms, a pool and fab terrace, which in the summer has fantastic outdoor dining with the most divine tapas you will ever taste. Thank you for another fantastic visit! We'll be back...in July.

I am so glad that I can write a review of this fantastic place, as it wasn't even on the Trip Advisor site when I first searched to do this. Now it is, I am delighted to share it, though a part of me is afraid because it is so special. We used to run a company that meant we had to search, find and discover Catalonia's hidden gems. This is one we kept to ourselves. We first discovered it three years ago. It is a place for those who are excited by fantastic food, great wine, amazing value and second to none service from a family who have been in the business for generations. This is authentic Catalunya and a hotel with immaculate rooms and attention to detail that keeps us going back for more (four times so far). There are apartments and rooms, as well as a lovely pool area and terrace for the warmer months. The beds are super comfortable, the service is top notch and it is spacious and clean. The restaurant is highly recommended - and we are very discerning. Ferran works with his father, mother an grandmother to prepare superb dishes served by brother Xavi who is assisted front of house by his grandfather. The wine list is a pleasant surprise - not many places in picturesque villages can live up to the food with such a great selection. Small and perfectly formed. I can't recommend this place enough for quality, comfort, value and foodie lovers who seek the service that is so hard to find in Spain.
