A Gem is born… Elegance, style and class will define this fully renovated Boutique Hotel. This Victorian Mansion, was built in 1901. It is located in a quiet and leafy area, and has been fully renovated in September 2020. The Hotel reflects the perfect balance between the charm of the “Heritage” and the comfort and luxury of the “Modern”. The 7 bedrooms are dispatched on 3 levels. Each one has its own character. They are named and decorated after a gemstone color. You will have the choice between a Twin or a Double Bedroom, a Family Suite or even a Loft. An exquisite breakfast will be served in the sunny veranda or in the lush garden. A light lunch option is also available for the ones who want to stay and enjoy the pool or rest in the garden. Carmichael House Boutique Hotel is ideally situated, being only 8 minutes away from the city centre, or 15 min from the airport (outside peak hours). Very friendly and attentive hosts!
Excellent communication from reservation and throughout the whole visit! The house is beautiful and the beds amazing! Everything is spotless clean! The breakfast offer includes healthy options such as porridge with almond milk and fruits of the season…
The location is very good to reach not only Waterfront but also the south, Constantia etc. and the wine lands.
All in all very much enjoyable!!!!

Ela Sofia, Efaristo poly. Firstly for posting such rewarding comment, and secondly for having been so thoughtful. From a booking that was reduced to 1 room only, due to family members not being able to fly to RSA due to Covid restrictions unjustly inflicted to SA, you replaced it not with 1, but with 2 families. In the end we were blessed with 12 guests in three Family Suites, what a blessing in this chaotic period! Needless to say that we'd be so happy to host you all again, this time hopefully with your overseas children as well, now that SA is no longer on the so called "red list"... In the meantime go well. Kind regards / Yves & Valerie

Although I was there for both business and a bit of family time, I really enjoyed my stay. The location is perfect in so far as access to UCT, Southern suburbs business and shopping precinct and only 5 mins away from the highway for easy airport access. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts that were freshly prepared, lovely croissants and delicious filter coffee. Thank you Yves and Valierie, see you soon!

Wonderful house ideally located near the university campus (close to town, beautiful views of the Devil's Peak), very quiet neighborhood.
The rooms are very spacious and nicely and tastefully decorated, with every attention to details to make you feel at home (mosquito plugs, fluffy towels, electric blankets in bed...).
The mattresses and pillows are top quality and the bedding as well.
Breakfast is not only good, but diverse and beautifully presented.
Valérie and Yves have a real talent to host and are full of good tips and recommendations (restaurants, coffee shops, tours to make and hiking paths).
We will definitely be back and recommend it to others!

This hotel was fabulous. The inn keepers were very helpful in helping us plan what to do in Capetown and how to stay safe. They arranged for a driver to pick us up and one to do a lovely all day tour to the cape of good hope and to see the endangered penguin colony. Urbering anywhere from the house was also easy. The rooms (we had two) were well done and well equipped with blackout screens, which we appreciated. We were also able to get our laundry done in a day and it looked fabulous. The breakfasts were Excellent! We even had our son come join us (he was staying elsewhere). The croissants were homemade, the jelly fabulous and the coffees were any way you wanted. I'm a tea drinker, and the chai tea latte with almond milk was delicious!! They gave us great recommendations for other meals too. We hiked table mountain one day and they showed us how to check the weather up there. Wonderful stay with knowledgeable hosts!

Carmichael House is centrally located, with easy access to many of the vibrant Cape Town neighbourhoods. The choice of good places to eat at, within a 5km radius, is staggering. As for the guesthouse itself, expect the best service from Yves, Valerie, Yvonne, and the rest of the staff - who cater to your every need while remaining unobtrusive. The breakfast is amazing, and the WiFi is lightning fast. I will definitely be back when staying in Cape Town in future.

We can't say enough good things about our stay in the wonderful Carmichael House Boutique Hotel. It was our home away from home for about 8 days. First of all, Yves & Valerie (and their two adorable little dogs) were very gracious hosts. We enjoyed hearing their story and how they made the hotel and grounds around it so beautiful. They had really helpful tips on where to eat, where to buy take-out pizza for 15 students, and where to explore Cape Town. The hotel was boutique and beautiful. We loved the well groomed from yard, the trees, the birds, and the swinging chair. The swimming pool was small, but we would have made more use of it had the weather been warmer. Inside, the hotel is decorated with art work, beautiful painted ceramic tiles, old books, and (my favorite) illustrations from old Geneva (I think) along the stairway. We stayed I the "Ruby" room, which gave us a nice view of the front yard. It was cozy and despite the "load sharing", Yves & Valerie's generator keep one or two lights on, which was all we needed. Breakfast is served daily. The food was wonderful, and we particularly enjoyed the homemade jams and honey which fueled our journey up Table Mountain.

Thank you Catherine for your graceful comment. FYI, as much as we do have a generator, what helps us keeping on all security lights in and around the establishment, as well as all the room and bathroom lights (not to mention the wifi router...), is in fact an inverter, which is totally silent. We use the generator during the day to run the full laundry and it's limited to a couple of hours at a time as it's rather noisy. As from the end of next week, we'll upgrade our inverter to double its capacity and support the entire establishment with essentials (lights, plug points, appliances & the laundry). But that's not the end of it, as we need to be able to be totally self-sufficient within the next 6 months or so, since I am afraid that Eskom issue isn't going to improve before long. Valerie & I are glad that despite your busy schedule, that you've managed to appreciate the finer details. Thank you. I trust that you've had a fruitful academic visit. All the best / Yves

We had an amazing stay at Carmichael! Both Yves and Valerie were outstanding hosts, tending personally to each one of their guests. With attention to every detail, addressing our requests, and making recommendations on restaurants or places to visit, our stay was made extremely comfortable, enjoyable, and memorable. The breakfast was delicious, the service was superb, and the rooms were cleaned every day. We highly recommend Carmichael to any traveler to Cape Town.

We spent 8 nights at Carmichael House. Yves and Valerie were so warm and welcoming, organized transport to and from the airport, provided advice and assistance on all the things we wanted to do: great hosts. The accommodation was first class: clean, comfortable, breakfast was a great start to the day sitting in the garden. Thoroughly recommend it.
