We picked Vioolsdrift lodge as it was close to the border and didn't want to deal with border officials after a long drive. On my next trip, I'd rather cross and stay on the other side. Firstly the location of the place is both great and terrible. Great for the closeness but terrible for the noise. Strange people hanging around, swearing and making tons of noise, not even to mention the trucks passing by. Love the simplicity of the room, however it was dirty! Not convinced the bedding was clean and the inside of the kettle was something out of a horror movie. About 30 mins after our arrival we heard the owner scream at someone (not sure if it was a guest or an employee). This was really unnerving for two females sleeping in a strange place with nowhere else to go. The shouting continued for a while, but basically, he told the person to get the f*** out. I don't stand for any form of abuse, I won't support someone like this. The receptionist was lovely (the only reason I gave it 2 stars).…

After making our reservations two weeks early, made payment and received confirmation, we arrived at 17h00 after a long drive. Great was our disappointment when we found the lodge locked up and nobody answering any of the three phone numbers on the gate. We waited for an hour without anybody turning up. At 16.00 we started looking for alternative accommodation and was eventually fortunate to find accommodation at another lodge close by. All efforts to get our money back from Vioolsdrift Lodge were met with deadly silence. Will never go back there.

We were heartily welcomed and despite being early we were able to proceed to our chalet. Very roomy and just loved the animals and birds on the grounds. The chalet was very spacious and conveniently laid out.

On arrival I was informed about load shedding... No problem, In SA we get used tot this... But at least you can put in the room a rechargeable light... Nobody didn't mentioned that if there is load shedding, there is also no water coming out the tabs. Otherwise outside was more than enough water spilled by watering the garden. Mosquito's everywhere... Inside the room, and I could not even sit outside because of the mosquitos. If you van choose between a green lawn with mosquitos or a peaceful sleep without a green lawn and mosquitos... Anyway, it was a very unpleasant stay... I left in the dark, without a coffee or a shower and full off mosquito bites...

Comfortable room with everything we needed. We liked the animals roaming around. We would have liked to buy some bar snacks. Tony was extremely helpful. The food was good with generous portions. The assistant manager was very helpful despite being very busy.

The shower floor and slip mat was filthy. Pool also not clean and the dogs swim in the pool. The dog is a bit aggressive towards other dogs at times.. We were advised to place our food well in advance due to load shedding. Food was still 1 and a half hours late, tasteless and order not all the food we ordered came. My children's' dishes were not made and the chef refused to make cook again even though the power was not off yet, so we had to share 2 dishes amongst the 4 of us. There is a generator, but all power gets cut during the night, leaving the guests is total darkness. The manager, Elzaan, is friendly and approachable, but not very helpful since she needs the owners approval for everything. Not a well run business at all. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND BAD SERVICE.

On Christmas day we pulled into Vioolsdrif Lodge after spending 7 hours on the road. I was looking forward to a cool down in the swimming pool and a peaceful night's rest before continuing our journey, but what a disappointment we had. On arrival the music was blaring at the swimming pool and noisy guests were enjoying the whole pool area. We book for just a room but was offered an upgrade to a chalet which we accepted. Unfortunately for us the guests in the chalet next to us was also having a merry merry Christmas with loud music blarring from their car. We took a stroll on the property and another couple was playing load music from their car probably feeling it their duty to spread the Christmas joy to everyone within hearing distance. Finally at 8 we phoned management and ask if we can downgrade to the room we initially booked where it was quite because nobody seemed to be on that side of the property. Now we had the opportunity to see the inside of the room versus the chalet and it was disappointing too. Both have horrible red and grey duvets. No sheet on the bed. Terrible pillows. I was unsure if the room was cleaned because the toilet was used and no toilet paper was provided. We are thankful at least for the quiet rest we had in the room and the air conditioning. The rest was not as presented in the pictures of the resort. They are situated very ideal but it seems they have lost the beauty that once was therefore we rate them poor @ R1100 per night. Ps: Policy is only enforced with repayments not with conduct at the property.…

We had all we need for a one night stayover. Staff were friendly and helpful. We received welcoming drinks, which was well appreciated after a long drive from Windhoek. Our chalet was well equipped and clean in a peaceful garden area. Will definitely make use of it again.

The Vioolsdrift Lodge is located very close to the SA / Namibia southern border on the SA side. We stayed in a self-contained unit that was clean and had the basics that made it comfortable and pleasant after a long journey, however wi-fi is only available in the vicinity of the reception area and not in the units. The reception area has shaded clean area where one can braai or have ameal with drinks etc and there is a lawned area with pond and pleasant garden.

I've never experienced staying at a lodge where the management makes noise, pumping music from around 18h00 until 2h00 the next morning.. What disrespectful and disgusting behaviour towards guests. Seems like management should rather open up a club instead.
