Detailed Reviews
From the minute we arrived at Norton House, we knew we were in for a beautiful stay. The B&B itself is in a brilliant location, near the A40 which made it easy to get to the many places nearby. Despite being near the main road however, it felt serene and there was little traffic noise at night. The house has so much character and the gardens with the brook make it even more special. It also has some of Lynnes beautiful homemade sculptures scattered amongst the gardens.
We were greeted by Craig, with teas, coffees and homemade cake, who told us everything we needed to know about the local area, activities and restaurants nearby. The rooms were so comfortable and well equipped, even for our little dogs who also enjoyed themselves (although I think that may have been down to the treats left for them!!) The beds were the comfiest we have ever stayed in.
Craig was always on hand whenever we needed him but also so respectful of space and privacy. He was attentive, friendly and just put everyone at ease. It also helps that he makes an outstanding breakfast! The menu has such a variety of choices and we managed to try most of them in the few days we were there!
Overall, it was one of, if not, THE best B&B we have ever stayed in and we were sad when our trip was over. We cannot praise this place enough and can’t wait to return!

We had a wonderful stay here. We are a couple on a relaxing holiday from London. The highlight was definitely Craig's excellent cooking. There was so much choice on offer and it was all delicious. The photo is of french toast and apples. I had taken a bite before taking the photo (bit eager). Craig is very welcoming, warm and accommodating. He makes a real effort to find out how you are but is also respectful of space. The room was comfortable and clean with a great view. The room could get very dark with the shutters which helped with restful sleep. Craig mentioned noise from the road but we found it very quiet. It was easy to walk to the nearby restaurant (2mins), cafe and grocery store (10mins) and pubs (15mins). We found it easy to park on site. It is quite easy to walk to the riverside (15mins) and the walk up the Doward has some breathtaking views and interesting features. The hand drawn ferry nearby is also quite fun. There are also plenty of companies nearby offering canoe and bike hire.

The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable; downstairs, besides the delightful old breakfast room there was a cosy lounge, where we were served welcoming tea and cake by Craig. There was lots of choice for breakfast, (I recommend the citrus salad) and the cooked breakfast was perfectly cooked and presented.
The location is very convenient for those passing nearby on the A 40, but would be a perfect base for anyone wanting to stay longer to explore the Wye Valley/Forest of Dean. Perhaps the biggest bonus was Craig himself, a lovely host.

Fantastic hosts, brilliant breakfasts, great location, lovely old property. We stayed as a small group and took the place over including the Cider Loft cottage which has its own small private garden at the rear and is perfect for dogs. In fact the whole property is very dog friendly. Great walking from the property and a perfect location to explore Symonds Yat and the Wye river valley on foot. The owners couldn't be more helpful and the breakfasts (full English and gourmet options) were absolutely superb. Very relaxing, clean and well appointed /looked after property, everyone liked their rooms. Craig and Lynne clearly know what they are doing and have plans to expand the offering with a gallery and afternoon tea options (I believe) alongside the excellent B&B they currently operate. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning. Eating out there are several options within easy walking distance, the closest Potting Shed not unfortunately dog friendly, but recommended by the hosts. We tried the Old Court Hotel which is a bit of a wedding venue and did not think was great value in terms of quality and price. A little further along (20 mins walk) the Old Ferrie Inn is much better ambiance, high quality food and doggie friendly and well worth the walk. If staying in either of the cottages, local takeaways also an option for those like us that don't want to self cater. All in all, loved it.

Norton House is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Craig, our host was attentive but not intrusive, friendly and fun. His knowledge of the area is extensive.
The homemade breakfast was tasty and locally sourced, the accommodation is spacious and comfortable. Great location for leisurely walks along the Wye valley.
A great place to relax, unwind and enjoy you time.
Craigs wife Lynne makes incredible sculpture from wire, really stunning.

We could not have received a warmer welcome from Craig and Lynne: greeted with a cup of tea and cake.
The house is full of character including a gallery and shop with paintings, sculptures and craft from local artists - Lynne creates heart-warming animal scultpures.
It is in an excellent location providing easy access to Symonds Yat, Monmouth, Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.
The breakfast was gorgeous. I had fluffy French toast with baked cinnamon apple slices accompanied by a freshly made seasonal smoothie.

we booked 2 nights here only a couple of days before we wanted to go away. we were really well looked after - Craig and his wife had taken over the business quite recently but standards were high. It was a challenging time as Storm Arwen blew through on our first night there. The wooden shutters meant that we didn't hear a thing, but there was a power cut for much of the following day. However, Craig was still able to rustle us up a delicious breakfast on the Aga. Breakfast choices are great - its not just a Full English that is available but a good selection of interesting dishes - it was lovely as vegetarians to have a good selection of sweet and savoury options. The location is excellent for exploring the Forest of Dean.

Historic building jam packed with character and charm. Good parking in the forecourt of the property. Room was comfortable and the guest lounge was also very welcoming.
The hosts were very personable, and friendly and happy to help with suggestions of local walks and places to visit.
The breakfasts were the best I have ever had as a guest, and the menu had many items on it that I have never experienced anywhere else.
A short walk away from a couple of lovely village inns as well. Symonds Yat is about 10 minutes away, and readily accessible from the nearby A40.
Totally recommended.

+1
We booked the Cider Loft kind of last minute ahead of the Easter bank holiday. The cottage has everything you need, there are extras such as dishwasher tablets, fairy liquid, a welcome cake and loaf of bread. There’s also some small toiletries in the bathroom.
We were blessed with warm sunny weather. We sat out in the front yard m for morning sun and in the back garden for afternoon sun. Both front and back are fully enclosed, and safe for dogs.
Comms were excellent with the owners before and during our stay. We were made to feel welcomed.
In terms of what restaurants/pubs are nearby: the Potting Shed restaurant is like 50 feet away. Then there’s the Old Court Hotel, then The Wye Knot Inn and finally the Ye Old Ferrie Inn. We stopped at all of them on a walk to the river.
We would visit the Cider Loft again. Thank you for your hospitality.

Craig met us with tea and cake. He had previously sent information on places to eat and we can whole-heartedly endorse The Potting Shed, which is just across the road. Lovely restaurant - delicious food and very friendly. Breakfast, prepared by Craig, was excellent.
Having booked quite late we could only get a twin room. This was quiet and comfortable, although the beds are quite creaky and the shower is very under-powered. We understand that renovations are still underway, so I expect these things will be remedied in due course.
An added attraction are the quirky sculptures created by the talented lady of the house.
