I first went to Negril the summer of 2004, stayed at Legends the first week then at Summerset the next week, all I can say is thank you Summerset for being so kind and thoughtful of my needs, Dolly was always asking if everything was o.k. with the room and if not the maid showed up soon to fix anything that was wrong, staff is very friendly and when they say soon come they came and not 3-4 hours later, you can sit on your balcony at night and hear the ocean waves, soft gentel breeze and a whole lot of Peace, security is around keeping an eye open for all the guest, there is a vast mixture of guest there at anytime and a whole lot of pleasing from the staff starting when you arrive until you leave. I will be returning to Jamaica again in either July or August for 15 days and guess where I will be staying, also there is a shuttle that takes you to the beach between 10-11am and returns at 4pm for those that want to stay until pick up time, close to Rick's a must see at sunset to watch divers or maybe try your luck ,though I would not recommend if you have been drinking, remember they do this for a living, but if you don;t want to stay at the beach hotels that are over priced stay at Summerset Village and have a good time ,with good food and did I say good people, step out and pick fruit off the tree No Problem everything Crisp

Recently, thanks in no small part to a wonderful bargain deal I got from the manager, was able to spend 26 days in Negril at Summerset Village, and got far more than I paid for. The room was well kept as are the grounds, the dining room serves up cheap and tasty meals, the pool is sparkling clean, and it was located in a rural residental area, but just approximately a short two block walk to the main road. Route taxis are 100J from the cliffs to the roundabout, then another 100J from the roundabout to the beach. You can pay more for a private taxi if you want, but unless it's night, there's really no need to. This is an ideal place for someone who wants to get a taste of the real Jamaica and yet still be close to all that is going on. Most of the places in Summerset Village do have kitchenettes, except the air conditioned rooms which are in the eight room block I was in, and it suited my needs perfectly. I recommend this place highly and will definitely be staying again. Talk to Petronella and she will be sure to get you a great deal.

I stayed 5 nights at Summerset in March 2013 in a standard room w/2 double beds that faces the garden. Here's the breakdown of my experience:

Pros: air conditioning works well, sheets were clean, and there is a working tv.
Cons: Of the 5 days that we stayed at Summerset, there were 4 days during which we experienced a lack of water (including toilet, shower, and faucet). Sometimes, the water returned within an hour. However, on the last day, there was no water for hours, and when the water did finally return, there was no warm water. We were told that there is a drought in Negril, leading to a water shortage. There was also supposedly a pipe problem at the hotel. However, during the same days when Summerset did not have water, I noticed that there was plenty of water along 7 mile beach (around 3 miles from Summerset). The lack of water was extremely problematic, because you could not flush the toilet nor could you shower. At some point, we were offered water to flush our toilets, but were not offered clean water to drink or to shower. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend anyone interested in staying at Summerset to call ahead and confirm that there is no water problem. Otherwise, the lack of water can really ruin your day.

In addition, the maid cleans the room with the door open, which resulted in a number of mosquitos in our room that bite my face several times at night. You can talk to her and ask her to close the door while cleaning.

The bed and the pillows were very old. The beds are spring beds, and I can clearly feel the center of the bed sinking in. The pillows (stuffed with what feels like foam peanuts so they are very lumpy) are very, very dirty, but they're covered with clean pillow cases.

There is a bar of soap that is provided, but no shampoo, so bring your own.

There is no wifi in the rooms. There is wifi in the check-in help desk area, which is in a separate building a few hundred feet away from our room. Note that the check-in desk is open usually at 9 am and closes around 6 or 7 pm at night, so don't expect anyone to answer your questions or assist you in the evenings.

Although you can open the windows, there are many holes in the mosquito nets that cover the windows. The lights inside the room are florescent light bulbs with no covering, so the light is very harsh.

while others mentioned a clean pool, during our stay, the pool was not very clean. There was a lot of debris floating on the surface, and the bottom of the pool also seem to need some cleaning.

Location: the hotel is a 5 minute walk to Negril Escape, another hotel, which provides a scenic view of the ocean and cliffs. However, you cannot swim in this area. In order to swim, you put take a taxi to the 7 mile beach (around a 6 minute taxi ride, $5 for 2 people each way). The road the hotel is located is fairly rural, with some semi-stray dogs and a few residences along the road. There are a number of restaurants close by, usually for a $3 taxi ride (for 2 people). You can walk to the restaurants, but I would not advise that. The roads are 2 lane roads with NO sidewalks and lots of car traffic. The roads are also hilly, so there are many blind spots.

Overall, I would say that if you're not a picky traveler, not looking for first class accommodations, not fussy about the occasional water shortage and older spring beds, and don't mind taking a taxi to the beach, then this is an appropriate hotel for you.

My weekend stay at Summerset Resort was awesome. My family and I went there on Friday November 6, 2020. we stayed there until the 8th of November. Even though it rained 90 percent of the time, we still had fun. the live performances by Gem Myers and the others were awesome. I absolutely loved this place and I will be back soon. Thanks to the staff who showed that they knew what they were doing. they went out and beyond to make sure that all the guests were ok..

We were really looking forward to our stay. When we arrived we were so shocked to see the shabby run down atmospher of not only the rooms but the grounds, the gates, everything. This place does not warrent a star rating!!!!

Our room had a leaking shower, broken bathroom light, broken aircon. Poor security, men loitering around on the streets pestering the guest. This I later found out was not how the real Jamaica is until we left after our first ght and stayed at St Annes District!! Men do chill with their freinds having a beer and a smoke and friendly hat, but on the road outside summerset this was a different type of loitering!! Not nice.

The flooring at Summerset was dangeous, concrete poured and not flattened, bad lighting so could easily fall and also did not make you feel safe.

I believe that if you are dissapointed with your stay, along as you feel safe and the place is clean then you use the room as a base. I did not feel safe, and as Im from London Im very use to various situations but here at Summerset something wasnt right. When we checked out after 1 night there was also 2 other couples also checking out after only one night!!!

The restuarant had no other guest apart from the 3 other parties we arrived with from the UK, we could not find any staff, there was no food to match was was offered on the menu as they had no tourists they didnt have the supplies.

When we were checking out, the receptionist said she wasnt surprised that we were leaving and she said she though our expectatins were too high, and I simply told here that wasnt the case, but we do have standards!!!, I have never in my adult life have I requested to leave a premises,).

Also how can 3 seperate parties leave after only 1 night, all be wrong. When you save up for 9 months for you big holiday of the year, of course we are extremely dissapointed!!!

Please do yourself a favour and dont come here, you will be dissapointed.

Take a look at the photos and see the state of this place.

p.s The other two guests that left at the same day, after only staying 1 night of a 14 night stay!!!, we check out their rooms and theirs was worse than ours, didnt think it was possible.

my friends and i were supposed to stay here this place is in the middle of no where, with no phones and no tv. unless you are running away and never want to be found don't book a room here. we had our driver take us to a hotel back toward the beaches it was much better and we could walk to just about everything.

Upon reading some of the reviews I have to wonder if I was at the same place. I cant call it a hotel as it was simply a place in the middle of nowhere with little civilsation. What a total letdown this place was. If you want to go to a run down camp site then this is for you - and believe me you would be better off sleeping in a tent. Its a hovel and i would rather sleep in my dog's kennel.

As you can see my friend whom I travelled with has put on some pics - the pics look somewhat better than the actual place. I still cannot accept that any reputable Travel agent (TC) can have this place on their books. We went at the start of summer, I cannot stress enough how empty the place was and there was nothing at all to do, no entertainment, no tv or radio in rooms or any rest area. I really dont even like to talk about it as it's too painful to have to think about it again.. The only saving grace is that I had my friend with me and our two 12 yr olds get on really well but had either of us been there alone it would have been a bigger major nightmare. We simply could not stay more than the one night. Subsequently we had to pay for 2 weeks at alternative accommodation - we were desperate to get away. (along with another mother and daughter who who's hut and yes I mean hut was blood boilingly Summerset Village taking the P! That was the final straw - I was enraged upon seeing the sate of the hut they were shoved in - unbelievable, and they paid more than me for the displeasure)

I would think that most decent living people pay to go on 'holiday' to stay in accommodation comfortable as you do at home or even better, I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, as no one paying their hard worked for cash, should have to face such a disappointment. I am of Jamaican heritage and I felt isolated and vulnerable being there, nothing like home. It's the worst ever accommodation i have visited in 22yrs of booking holidays. I am very open minded and flexible... this was pushing me beyond being reasonable..

All I can say is SAVE YOUR MONEY - do not give these money grabbing liars a penny of your money, they are simply ripping us off and should come with a health and safety warning , better still demolished.. Really Awful place - Nightmare!! Dont go there..

I am staying at Summerset, but looking to leave ASAP, I am leaving due to, too many problems with the Hotel, its Staff and Location!

First of all the road that the hotel is on, is overrun by what appears to be prostitutes, drug dealers and crack heads! The hotel staff especially the only two maids on the property are very, very rude and when asked for basic services, they seem to be bothered by your asking! Especially the slimmer one who is constantly sleeping in the bar area, talking to co workers and talking very rudely and loudly!

The property manager, Miss Campbell, also appears to be very rude and when you need an issue addressed she never seems to take care of the guests problem! She is constantly chastising guests for minor things she believes they should not be doing instead of focusing on the main problems at the property! Very standoffish and extremely cold person! Blames the guests for missing items without proof and oblivious to the actual break-ins and thefts of property perpetrated by outside parties coming from outside the property!

This morning, 330 AM, October 19th, 2013, a married Italian/Jamaican couple, with a one year old baby, were sleeping in their room when their room was broken into and some expensive items were taken! This happened even though there is supposed to be security on the property! The property is totally unsecured and anyone and everyone can gain access unencumbered to the property all hours of the day and night!

The swimming pool is green and dirty about 3 to 4 days a week, the pool cement is cracking and breaking, the food in the restaurant is subpar and the overall cleanliness of the place is horrible! The house units and hotel rooms are in disrepair, and the internet goes off several times a week!

Cable TV channel selection is very limited! The biggest downfall of this place besides the rude, unhelpful staff including the two employees in the bar (very rude and unhelpful), and the shoddiness of the property, is the crime factor in the area of Summerset Lane!

Several of the shop residents on the street are very rude to tourists passing by, yelling comments and overly trying to get them to buy something! The taxis' that travel up and down the road constantly try to gouge and overcharge the tourists not familiar with the government set fares and there are several non-red plate taxis illegally and dangerously picking up unsuspecting tourists!

And the break-ins at the property are rampant due to lack of security and mismanagement on the part of the property manager and staff!

DO NOT STAY HERE, PLEASE SPEND A LITTLE MORE FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY, EVEN THE CHEAPER PRICES OF THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH THE PROBLEMS YOU WILL ENCOUNTER!! THE PICTURES ON THE TRAVEL SITES DO NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THE ACTUAL PROPERTY!

Okay, I cannot say anything bad about this place, b/c I didn't stay at this resort. I must say this though; of the resorts and hotels we passed to get to Summerset were fenced in and had security walking the premises...this one did not. I would not have felt safe without that. To add to the safty issue there weren't any phones in the rooms. (We viewed three.) I think this place is for those that have a group of 20 or more - like a staff retreat or something of that nature. As long as you have protection and like being secluded from everything else...by all means stay here. I can say that the rooms were very pretty and spacious.

Our party arrived 8/25/14 and were brought to room 408 and 407. That evening we went to bed around midnight and woke up at 8am to see our cell phone cords but no cell phones-then we noticed other electronics we had plugged in to charge that evening missing along with my purse. Upon opening the door to go to the office my purse was lying there empty of all cash BUT my cash cards, ID and other things were still inside. THANK GOODNESS. We inspected the room and these doors have no dead-bolts just push button locks and we walked around several room to find that ALL door jams were pryied, screens have been cut...there is a security gaurd (believe to be in on this along with other staff members) that claims to "see things". When you go to the front office they will assist with calling the police...you get told that the police are busy and will call or come by later. We moved to another hotel that very morning and I left 2 other phone numbers only to hear nothing back. After another 24 hours I went to the police department my self and they had NOT heard of the complaint and had told me that in a few weeks there was going to be a meeting on this location because this type of theft is happening all to OFTEN at this hotel. BEWARE-stay away!!! These people are coming into your room while you sleep!! While I was at the police station the people behind me where making a complaint from another hotel right in the same area after they were robbed while sleeping only they woke up and had knives pulled on them!! This could become potantially dangerous!!
