Machangulo Beach Lodge is an absolute gem hidden away from the daily commuters and noise the world throws at you.
The lodge is in a very good conditions and we could not fault them for anything. The rooms are spacious and private. The food (although the lodge is very remote) is good with at least three options always available for all meals. The owner has a very good collection of wines and spirits. The staff is always super friendly.
We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at Machangulo Beach lodge for 8 nights and it was an unbelievable holiday! This little spot is perfect in every way. The beach is remote and very quiet. Walk 100m around the point and you will have a 2km stretch of beach to yourself. Swimming in front of the lodge was perfect for our 3 small kids, but this is tide dependant and for us worked out very well. Snorkelling in front of the lodge is also great and there are some beautiful fish just email off from the beach, but better snorkelling is at the marine reserve room across on Inhaca Island.Kayaks, sups and snorkelling gear are available for use and we loved paddling up and down the stretch of coast in front of the lodge. The lodge is beautiful. Each individual tent is hidden in the forests each with amazing views from their balconies. Bear in mind that there are a lot of steps from the beach up to each unit. We visited in April and mosquitoes were not a problem. The food was perfect. It is not a fine dining kind of cuisine, but the food is so fresh and simple that everything has such great flavour. Breakfasts include a selection of warm out the oven muffins, pastries, waffles and pancakes, fresh fruit and yoghurts and then a choice of cooked eggs, bacon etc. Fish or seafood is served every evening and a non fish option for those not keen on seafood. Dinner is 3 course and every night of our 8 there was superb. Twice we walked to Bemugis in Santa Maria for lunch and would highly recommend their half chicken. The best chicken I have ever eaten.
We were a family of 11 there and the management and staff were the best. Accommodating to every need and the service was great.
We spent the week swimming, snorkelling, paddling, running, eating and reading. This is not an uber luxurious establishment, it is beautiful and well kept and food is delicious, but it is wild and remote and do not be surprised to find a mouse running through your bedroom or a crab scuttling through the dining room. The pool is small, but the most perfect stretch of beach is what you're at this spot for. We will definitely be back as soon as possible!

Machangulu beach lodge is simply spectacular. Every location, from your log cabin, the pool, two bars, sunset viewing deck, and the restaurant has a sea view. The food is incredible: fresh fish or prawns are on option at every meal. There are kayaks, SUP boards, goggles, snorkels, wetsuits and flippers available for use at no charge. And no shortage of activities and day outings: deep sea fishing, snorkeling, hikes, kayaking, to name a few. We highly recommend the snorkeling picnic excursion to nearby Nyaka Island.
What makes the lodge so special are the friendly, hard-working staff who tirelessly attend to your every need. Thank you to the most wonderful team at Machangulu!! We will definitely be back.

What a surprise. Beautiful wooden Lodge with all you could ask for. The rooms we had were at the top of the dune with magnificent sea views. Quite a couple of stairs to climb if you forgot something. Our baggage was dropped and collected for us. The rooms are large, large enough for 2 single beds for the children to be added. The mattress is very comfortable. Air-conditioned rooms. Beautiful hot shower.
We've never seen so many whales in our lives.
The bar and restaurant areas are in African beach lodge style with comfortable seating areas and day beds.
The food was excellent with fresh seafood as well as a chicken or beef option if seafood is not to your taste for dinner. But trust me on the seafood.
Breakfast was a wide variety from fresh fruit, crepes and confectionery to bacon and eggs.
The activities were more than we could fit in. Snorkeling on the local reefs, beach picnic, Dow cruise, deep sea fishing and long beach walks kept us busy.
I have to mention the staff. They are friendly, efficient and helpful. Siffiso and his team took great care of us. He sorted out getting our fishing gear that didn't arrive with us at Maputo airport without a fuss.
We had a most memorable time.

We totally understand we can't control the weather but a few points we'd like to feedback on our stay at the hotel:

No umbrellas to keep dry.

No blankets to keep warm or air con working on heat mode. Maybe option for electric blankets in room?

Not told spa was unavailable until arrival Too cold to have massages in room.

Tea and coffee not replenished in rooms daily and only given when asked.

Ran out of hot chocolate.

Most hot food served lukewarm/cold. Eggs, toast, pancakes, puddings, mains. Maybe serve on hot plates?

Told that meals are served between cetain times but then asked to sit at table before ready to eat and then when seated asked if ready for the meal?

Vegetarian option on menu is very bland and basic.

Plate of sweet potato cut into 4 and not cooked, was dressed with an onion, served on a cold plate!

Hand towels in toilets not replenished throughout day and evening.

Whatsapp group, great idea but why are the 51 people on it when only 13 guests in hotel?

Staff very friendly and happy to help but felt not able to consitently deliver the level of service expected.

Pool needs a good clean. Full of dead bugs and leaves.

Amazing place with amazing people! A secret place in paradise. From arrival to departure you will be pampered. Professional staff, friendly people, who can get everything out of it every day so that every customer receives top treatment. The food is fantastic. These people really deserve a round of applause, especially when you know that everything has to be delivered by boat. Beautiful accommodation, what a view! Being able to wake up every day in this place is just fantastic. Thank you Sifisio for this great experience. Big thanks to all the staff. We will definitely buy back (just for the spicy margarita)
Greetings from Belgium

We enjoyed 2 nights at The Machangulo Beach Lodge. Being picked up in Maputo we were at the harbor ready to board the boat very quickly. We were happy to swim in the ocean, walk the beach, enjoy the pool, and snorkel. The food was great, the spa services divine. The bartender created wonderful cocktails each time. We look forward to our next trip there!

Great place with stunning views.
If you look for secluded and unspoiled beaches with almost no tourists its the right place to be.
The scenery is phantastic with high sand dunes directly leading to the remote beaches.
The lodge is perfectly located exactly at the tip of the pensinsula hence you can watch sunrise and sunset from the terrace of your room.
The lodge itself is very nice, the staff is very helpful and friendly. Food, especially Dinner is really very good. The rooms are very spacious and located widespread over the whole place hence you really feel alone.
We have been at Machangulo Beach Lodge for 7 nights and enjoyed it very much.
Why not 5 stars? Only minor little things i.e. the matraces of the sunbeds were a bit old and broken.

The location is awesome and the views from cabins #7 and #8 were breathtaking. Then you have a such a great property and top it off with a fantastic management and you really enjoy every minute of your stay. Sifisso Curtis runs the place anticipating each guest's needs always checking how your stay is going and going out of his way to make things happen, whether it's a special celebratory dinner or a SCUBA diving trip. Special shout to the greatest bartender Claudio who each night was waiting for us with our drinks of choice. The resort is about an hour away by boat and the sea can be unpredictable so just be prepared in case you get wet. I read on a prior review about a guest having issues locating the boat for the transfer so we contacted Richard from the main office on WhatsApp and he was super friendly. Immediately he sent me the name of the captain and the boat we were going to be using, along with a pin drop of the location. When we arrived at the marina everything was just like Richard said and theCarlos the captain was there waiting for us. Our 7-day, 6-nights there were just perfect.

Not since the 90's have I enjoyed a real holiday such as our five day week at Machangulo. Our time there was remnant of early days in Plettenberg Bay at the Beacon Isle and surrounds & Mauritius when Sol Kerzner had just created paradise, traffic was non-existent, swimming conditions pristine, staff were service oriented and food produce was fresh, delicious and the chefs prepared meals with love and expertise... Our room with a view was breathtaking, the turndown service and 5-star room servicing impeccable & the beach sublime. Delicious menu on tap for breakfast and supper every day (included in the rate). A real highlight & something to look forward to. We strolled around to Bemuji's Island Bar & restaurant on occasion for lunch as per the manager's recommendation and for the rest, opted to do absolutely nothing all day, every day. Honestly, when last can you say that you stayed "put" at your hotel, simply because it was too divine to leave. The very best part? Other than my partner, without a doubt the wonderful team running this five star lodge.

An owner's culture filters through to his or her staff so hats off to this one. What an asset to the travel menu this gem is... I simply can't wait to go back.

PS: It's a breeze to get there: Less than an hour and a half long flight from Jhb to Maputo, followed by a one hour fifteen minute boat ride gets you straight to Paradise. Pack a medley of bathing suits, a few pretty frocks for supper and you're good to go! Amen

Yes definitely! The sea is lovely to swim in right in front of the lodge, and there are wetsuits to borrow if you want to snorkel for any amount of time.

Hi, I didnot see a single mosquito there in September but it will be different in rainy season. Maputo has plenty at all times. They have the most wonderful walk-in safari nets I have ever seen.

Hi, you can snorkel right in front of the lodge and get the equipment for free. Its good but currents are very strong. The better snorkeling is at the Inhaca Nature Reserve which is just a five minutes boat ride over the bay. The whole trip there for about 2 hours is 20 dollars for the boat. They also take you there for that prize if you are the only one. So worth it. Only water, open juices and self-made lemonade are included, and coffee and tea during the day, but no bottled or canned drinks. Its fullboard plus and not all inclusive. Kind regards Stefan
