School rugby tour and small numbers of wild animals in the reserve ensured that this so called 5 star Safari experience was degraded to a 3 star one. Meal times , pool area and all common areas were left to contest with well over 50 teenagers (sports tour). The reserve has small numbers of animals with consequent low sightings. 6 elephants, 5 lions in total. Lions are kept in an enclosure whereas other animals are roaming free with minimal predatory risks. Buffet was great for carnivores but extremely limited for vegetarians (unless you like curry). Was made to pay for food ordered Seen that there was inadequate vegetarian options at the buffet. Although the game rangers were passionate and knowledgable and the service rendered by hotel employees was excellent. All in an all

Stayed here with Saga, holiday was marvellous and our guide Mashaba was amazing, she also took us on Bush Walks and a Medicine trail. Be aware if you go in June you need lots of layers, maybe even thermal wear. Believe me the morning drives and the return from the evening ones, you will definitely need them. And if you consider the night safari (though I was not impressed with that one, different guide for that one), to say it was freezing is an understatement. Saga rep at the hotel as others have said was not the best, we only found out that there was a Saga lounge by another review on here. When we asked about it, the rep said it was locked and to speak to the waiting staff. It wasn't locked and when we told her she seemed surprised. We suggested she should hold her

Warm clothes needed for early morning and early evening safari rides. Our safari guide Ben was superb, he did his utmost to find the animals we wanted to see. We saw all the big 5 except the leopards. All the staff were friendly and helpful. However the Saga rep failed to communicate effectively with us, a notice board in reception would have been useful!

We had a lovely stay in the self catering houses. The 1 negative is that there is no signal at the houses. We had a few meals and drinks at the hotel that was very nice. We saw some animals buy not the big 5. Overall experience was very nice

Staff was friendly and helpful. Safari ranger was knowledgeable. Facility was comfortable and food was delicious. Highly recommend for family trips. FYI - The animals are contained in a very large but fenced area. As such, there is greater chance of seeing them. On our trip, we had the fortune of seeing lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, and more.

Really enjoyed our stay here recently. The room was lovely and had large patio doors that we opened and sat and watched the nyala grazing in the small wooded area in front of the room. We saw baboons there and, on another occasion, monkeys playing in the trees right outside our room. The drives were amazing, and we had Apollo as our guide. He truly is the "god"of trackers and could spot the proverbial needle in a haystack. He was very knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy the challenge of searching out the animals for us. Can't speak highly enough about him, and we were so grateful by the end of the week that he had been our guide. We did have a few issues with the food ,it was tasty enough but was cold on several occasions, and I was served raw chicken one night. My complaint was

Where to begin? The accomodation was great. Comfortable and private. So many animals to see around the lodge when walking or having lunch. Matimba was our guide for 4 days and he was informative and funny at times, in fact part of the crew. Matimba worked hard to find everything for us. From the cheetah to the wild dogs he was on track. The elephants were amazing. Also saw lions, Cape buffalo, hippos, hyena, gnu, impala, Nile crocodile, rhinos, giraffe, zebra and of course warthog along with many other species. So many beautiful sunsets in different places with a beer or a coffee. All the guides worked hard but enjoyed the safari’s. The buffet was over the top for choice. Beautiful food for three meals a day. Beware! You can only eat so much! If I could make any negative

We had the most incredible honeymoon at Mabula. We couldn’t fault a single thing throughout our stay - the food was great, our room was beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful, and every single game drive was amazing and unique. Special shout out to our guide Tiaan, who went above and beyond every single day to make our experience the best it could be. His passion and knowledge shone through and our safari experience wouldn’t have been the same had it not been for him. We had the most perfect experience and would recommend Mabula to anyone!

So last day of our South Africa trip was at Mabula game lodge. We had booked 2 rooms. Unfortunately we were alloted the farthest room wherein the staff was not able to help us reach, twice staff got lost with us. Room 58 & 59.Our tour manager couldn't help us change the room location which was much more disappointing. Roofs were open on sides could gaze stars from inside the room. We family of 4 members slept in one room, because the roof was open and my 6 year old was badly scared to sleep in that room. Hotel was just sorry for inconvenience. Nothing else. Overall disappointment. Worst memories from our South Africa trip.

This place is for couples and families.the hotel does not cater to solo travelers. game ranger William is amazing, but see 1 animal at a time. Activities not possible solo with a guide, must be 2 pple and more, so horse riding was impossible for a time that suited me, I’m an experienced rider and needed a guide. Not possible. Hot air ballooning not possible, because they need 2 pple. They must advertise this place that it doesn’t cater to solo travelers. The phone in the room doesn’t work despite informing reception no one comes to fix it. Drinks are non existent on drive, unless you ask for wine or coffee with amarule on a drive. Which they will charge you for. Won’t be coming back here. Absolutely no customer service. Places like motswari and nkomazi etc etc go out of there to
