My husband and I had a great stay at Sonnekus Guest House. The room was clean and the service excellent. The area is fun with lots of small shops, indoor/outdoor bars, restaurants and interesting creative pieces sold along the main road running parallel to the ocean. We highly recommend staying here. The room rate was very reasonable.
Great host, amazing location, spectacular view - well priced ! The house is tastefully decorated, yet period correct. So much do on your doorstep. DSTV and Fibre needs attention, bur definitely not a deal breaker.........
A pleasant stay for a short period of time in a guest house where the past whispers to you around every corner; from the lounge to the rooms, to the veranda, all recall a time when life was somewhat more convenient. In summary - all good thank you. The only negative aspect was the wifi which tended to dip overnight.
We really enjoyed or stay at Sonnekus Guest House. It is perfectly situated, close to the beach, restaurants and shops. We had a wonderfulwarm welcome and our room was clean and spacious with an amazing view. Highly recommended.
I have been coming to Sonnekus for both business and pleasure for short trips over a number of years. It is a lovely 'old style' building that is impeccably maintained, friendly and with excellent service. Nice to see the area is picking up again and nightlife and restaurants were all in full flow on my last visit Good access to small beaches and a really fun tidal pool. Recommend watching the sunrise if you can.
I really disliked the way I was treated by a staff member- there was a payment mix up but I was disregarded when trying to say I had already paid. Ended up paying twice and had to wait for a refund; none of this was my fault as I even sent proof of payment 2 weeks in advance. I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously and brushed aside. Also, there was an extra charge for breakfast which was a surprise; nowhere is it mentioned that bfast would cost extra on website when I made the booking. It is really not acceptable; it was implied that breakfast would be included in the booking cost. Had we known this we would have had breakfast somewhere else that morning. The stay was absolutely wonderful, beautiful accommodation and amazing location! Unfortunately our experience staying there was spoiled by the treatment from staff member as well as breakfast that we felt tricked into paying extra for.…
The accommodation met all our expectations in terms of location, room facilities, cleanliness and general interaction with the Owners. A very warm and friendly experience. We would certainly stay there again.
Pat and her son Nic were great hosts during our stay at Sonnekus for our annual friends get together. They truly went the Extra mile and made our stay so special. The location and facilities of Sonnekus and were perfect and I hope to return soon.
I have stayed about 8 times at Sonnekus over the years. Every time has been wonderful. This time I stayed from 8th March to 27th April. Much of this time was during the lockdown when I was confined to the guesthouse. Even though I could not go out I still enjoyed the ambience of the guesthouse, the ever changing views and moods of False Bay, the sounds of the ocean at night and the fresh sea air. Pat and Mike Allum went out of their way to shop for food for me during the lockdown. Mike even drove me at night to the pick-up point at Cape Town stadium so I could join the coach to Pretoria for the repatriation flight to Melbourne. The breakfast is delicious and varied and a fabulous start to the day in the beautiful dining room. I missed not being able to enjoy the lovely beach across the road. And St James is the best part of Cape Town. I highly recommend Sonnekus!…
I was visiting from London, UK and had attended a wedding the previous weekend. I had decided to stay on for a few days instead of flying directly back to UK. I originally booked at Sonnekus for 1 night but prolonged my stay after getting a feel for the area and seeing that the staff at Sonnekus were so friendly and accommodating. There are lots of activities nearby from swimming and surfing to hiking and cycling. There are also lots of restaurants nearby and with access to Uber you are only a cheap ride away from lots of great parts of the Cape Town area. I would recommend Sonnekus and they offered me lots of friendly advice on how to get the best out of my stay and it was also a very peaceful place to chill out and have some downtime.
