We had two outings provided through Thobeka and our Tour guide Edwin was friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. We did the fish trap tour and Tembe Elephant reserve.
We would like to stay at Thobeka next time we are in the area.

Unfortunately on this occasion we couldn’t make it to Kosi Bay due to local protests and the corona virus. However the staff were brilliant keeping us informed about the access roads. We love these guys having visited five years ago when they were equally helpful.
Keep up the great work guys

We had a wonderful time at thobeka!
We stayed in a neat rustic african en suite reed hut. There is a communal kitchen-hut, a braai area next to the pool and bar and every evening everyone gathers around the fireplace. The hosting family was super friendly, welcoming and helpful. They arranged activities and daytrips and did everything to make our stay as pleasant and wonderful as it was. Thank you very much! We wish you all the best and will definitely visit you again the next time we are in South Africa! Greetings, Jana and Marco

Booked and paid the whole amount for what we believed to be a decent family accommodation. Yes, we included children, which Merilyn confirmed that was fine to accommodate.
When we got there we found that the place was absolutely disgusting. The toilets were not clean.
When we picked up the covers from one of the beds, we found newly born mice there.
The kitchen facilities, needless to say, was absolutely disgusting.
There is rustic but another thing for being filthy and unhygienic.

We refused to stay there and requested that Merilyn gives us our money back.....which she did not.....We left and sought other accomodation in the area, which was far more superior to Thobeka. The rates were even better.

Merilyn clean up your establishment.

A beautiful blend of comfortable and natural, with options for booking tours to Mozambique, nearby beaches, and more! They treated us like family during our stay, including a mouthwatering braai dinner for my friend's birthday. The rooms are spacious while still cozy, and the location is unbeatable. We would recommend it to anyone!

We stayed over for one night on our way back from Ponta do Ouro.
We were a little sceptic on what we would find because on the drive in from the main road it looks like you are heading straight into the bundus. But we were pleasantly surprised of what we found! Maryna and her whole family are so friendly and made us feel right at home. I would definitely remember this hidden gem when we go that way again.

The cottage we stayed in was rustic but very nice and very clean. The owner was incredibly friendly and gave us tips on interesting activities we could do that we were not able to find in travel books or online. She also made us feel very welcome. This place is incredibly affordable and it was some of the warmest hospitality I have received in that region. I will definitely stay again.

Under new management since September 2015, this backpackers is a great place to stay! Unfortunately I was the only guest at Thobeka's during my two night stay, but did encouraged the owners to invite me to a family braai, and they organized an african dinner the second night. Amazing value too, at R150/night. With Kosi Bay now easily accessible trough a new tarred road, this is a must stop on your road trip through Kwazulu Natal.
